a relação: formação e experiência/trabalho prescrito e trabalho real (GUÉRIN et
al, 2001).
de LE, evidenciando, assim, maneiras singulares de ser/estar na profissão / This study aims at investigating the speech of the teacher of English about his/her
activity within Private Language Courses (PLCs), revealing the discursive
images (DEUSDARÁ, ROCHA, 2006) that they construct about their work and
about themselves at institutions of that nature. That implies unveiling the meanings
and the materialization, extracted from discursive resonances, of the debate which
go through the relation: education and experience/prescriptive work and real work
(GUÉRIN et al, 2001). The theoretical-methodological assumptions that support
this research lie in the interlocution between language and work. With regard to
the studies on work, our approach was built by concepts from Situated
Ergonomics (LAVILLE, 1977; VIDAL, 1998; GUÉRIN et al, 2001) and Ergology
(SCHWARTZ, 2010). In the field of language studies, our focus of analysis was
based upon the Dialogical Conception (BAKHTIN [VOLOSHÍNOV], 2009; 2011), in
dialogue with the Discourse Analysis perspective on enunciative basis
(MAINGUENEAU, 1997; 2008a; 2008b; 2009; 2013; 2015). Within this interface,
we gave preference to the speech about work (LACOSTE, 1998). To analyze and
interpret the discursive excerpts produced by a female graduate teacher and a
male non-graduate teacher that teach English at PLCs, through the event
interview (DAHER, 1998), we elaborated a systematized guideline framed as a
three thematic chart, i.e.: (1) knowledge from education; (2) knowledge from
experience; (3) tension between the prescriptive work and real one. The analyses
point to the work of the teacher as a construction encompassed by teacher
education and experience, within an unfinished, dynamic and live process, in
which the values that circulate in the situation of work play a major role in the
construction and reconstruction of new pieces of knowledge, by means of debate
of norms. Thus, by investigating the excerpts we had access, through the
discursive images, to two sorts of ethos of teachers functioning in the situation of
work at those environments of teaching and learning of foreign language,
revealing unique ways of being within the profession

Previous issue date: 2007-05-29 / This research aims at investigating the digital literacy via Internet through the
construction of the pedagogical and technological knowledge of in-service teachers
of English in order to use the computer in the classroom. It was done through the
development of an online course, which aimed at discussing the theoretical aspects
of including the computer in their pedagogical practice; developing the teachers skills
in terms of the handling of the software Word, Paint and PowerPoint, as well as the
creation and upload of WebPages; and, making use of the software, as well as the
Internet, as a pedagogical resource in the classroom. It was done through a reflexive
process based on each participants individual contexts.
The chosen methodological approach was the case study. The participants
were five in-service teachers of English, teaching in various educational contexts.
They took part in an online course of teacher training, focusing digital literacy.
Besides the student-teachers, the researcher of this investigation took part as the
tutor of the course. The data analysis searched for digital literacy in relation to the
use of the Internet and computer software and in the use of the computer as a
pedagogical resource. To be able to verify the development of the digital literacy in
the course, the researcher developed three scales aiming at measuring the initial and
final literacy of each participant. The scales developed were: Internet Literacy,
Software Literacy and Pedagogical Use of Computing Resources.
The results showed that the participants were successful in their effort to
become digital literate in the Internet, software and pedagogical use of computing
resources. The perceived processes were collaborative learning and interaction
among peers (student-student, student-tutor-student) together with a reflexive and
critical behavior. The results also showed that a theoretical-practical course was very
important, since it allowed the theoretical aspects being discussed to be immediately
applied. Moreover, the straight application of the principles discussed in the teachers
personal educational contexts allowed the experience to become more significative.
The participants greater exposition and familiarization with the computer allowed
them to become less frightened of the resource, more confident in using it, as well as
to lose the impotency feeling when facing this resource, previously seen as resource
to be used only by computer experts. Consequently, this greater familiarization led to
the first steps in both the search for innovation in the teaching-learning process and
the change of the participants educational paradigm / Este trabalho tem por objetivo investigar o letramento digital via Internet na
programas Word, Paint e PowerPoint, além de criação e publicação de WebPages;
As participantes

Previous issue date: 2014-05-30 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This thesis claims that a College degree in English Language Teaching may have the
status of continuing education for students who already work as teachers, that is,
they have experience either at language institutes or state/private schools. In this
sense, this study aims to examine how experienced English language teachers,
enrolled in English Language Teaching courses at College, understand the education
they are engaged in. In order to do that, it is necessary to investigate the Senses and
Meanings that a group of student-teachers attribute to the education they receive; the
knowledge that contribute to the attribution of those Senses and Meanings; and it is
also necessary to explain how the understanding of the student-teachers about their
experience attribute to English Language Teaching courses the status of continuing
education. This is a qualitative research, characterized as a case study (YIN, 2010)
and inserted in Applied Linguistics field. The theoretical basis are related to the
differences between initial and continuing education (PERRENOUD, 2002;
GIMENEZ, 2005; GEDHIN ET AL., 2008; CELANI, 2010), pointing out that, not
always these two types of education, especially the ones related to English
Language Teaching, have such a linear relationship as their nomenclatures might
indicate (HUGHES, 1996; MENEZES, 2003; AZAMBUJA, 2007; HEPP, 2008; MOITA
LOPES & BASTOS, 2010; OLIVEIRA, 2010). There is also a discussion concerning
the national curricular guidelines (BRASIL, 1996, 2002a, 2002b) and particularities of
the Brazilian context (LIMA 2009, 2011; ALMEIDA, 2012, CHARLOT 2012); the
relationship between theory and practice (RAJAGOPALAN, 1984; PEREIRA, 1988;
PENNYCOOK, 2010); the teachers knowledge and survival strategies (GEERTZ,
1983/2009; WOODS, 1990; ROBERTSON, 1992; TARDIF, 2002; CANAGARAJAH,
2005); the contributions of Paulo Freire (1967/2011, 1968/2011) and the post-method
condition (PRABHU, 1990; KUMARAVADIVELU, 1994, 2001, 2006). The concepts of
Senses and Meanings, based on Vygotsky (1934/2010), are used as theoretical
support to data analysis. Concerning the instrument of data collection, it has been
chosen the semi-structured interview (RIZZINI, 1999; LÜDKE & ANDRÉ, 1996). The
results indicate that while attending the courses at the University, experienced
student-teachers opinions vary from those who are not experienced. In this case, the
former are better able to identify theories and practices that do not adapt to their
context than the latter. Experienced student-teachers have also added to their
practice the experiential knowledge, which is a characteristic of teachers in
continuing education. Even during the moments when the University does not help
students to relate theory and practice, experienced student-teachers are aware that
they need to reflect on their own practice and the role of the university in encouraging
contínua (PERRENOUD, 2002; GIMENEZ, 2005; GEDHIN ET AL., 2008; CELANI,
as suas nomenclaturas possam indicar (HUGHES, 1996; MENEZES, 2003;
AZAMBUJA, 2007; HEPP, 2008; MOITA LOPES E BASTOS, 2010; OLIVEIRA,
(BRASIL, 1996, 2002a, 2002b) e particularidades do contexto brasileiro (LIMA, 2009,
2011; ALMEIDA, 2012, CHARLOT, 2012); a noção de relação teoria e prática,
(RAJAGOPALAN, 1984; PEREIRA, 1988; PENNYCOOK, 2010); os saberes
docentes e estratégias de sobrevivência (GEERTZ, 1983/2009; WOODS, 1990;
ROBERTSON, 1992; TARDIF, 2002; CANAGARAJAH, 2005); as contribuições de
Paulo Freire (1967/2011, 1968/2011) e da condição pós-método (PRABHU, 1990;
KUMARAVADIVELU, 1994, 2001, 2006).

This research study has an ethnographical character with characteristics of intervention. It aimed at observing how an English teacher teaches the English grammar in a Municipal school. Based on the analysis of this teacher's grammar teaching practice, this study tried to point out the assumptions and beliefs that guide such practice (using as reference, authors such as PAJARES, 1992; BROWN, 1994; RICHARDS and LOCKHART, 1994; WOODS, 1996). From this information, both the teacher's and her students' reactions to a proposal of grammar teaching through communicative activities were observed. The research was had two phases. The first aimed at characterizing the context and the participants, and mapping their expectations concerning the English language classes, as well as their beliefs concerning the teaching of the English pedagogical grammar. In the second phase, the pedagogical proposal was applied and the participants' reactions and evaluation to such proposal were observed. For doing so, the main procedures used for data collection were the research diary written by the researcher, a semi-structured interview, questionnaires, audio and video recordings, discussion session (about theory), logs and viewing sessions. The analysis of the data suggested that the teacher's beliefs express a way of teaching with traditional tendencies, based on her previous personal experiences and influencing directly the students' beliefs concerning the topic under study (the English language grammar). Moreover, when analyzing the participants' reactions and evaluation of the proposal, a clear importance of the course book was observed and although there was a certain fear in the use of a new approach, the participant teacher showed evidences of reflection and preoccupation with matters concerning her teaching practice and her professional improvement.
