An analysis on starting up a specific small business

Gomez, Juan Leonardo 21 February 2011 (has links)
A unique business opportunity has been presented to me. I have been invited to create a small business that would initially offer mechanical design services to two main customer segments: automotive and biomedical device companies. My main responsibility is to help frame the small business and act as an investor partner. I will act as a silent partner once the day to day operations begin. My main focus of this paper is to provide practical information to answer many specific questions about starting this small business. A Net Present Value (NPV) and Profitability Index (PI) analysis will help me determine whether the required initial investment capital will be a good investment for all the parties involved. The legal aspect of managing people in a small business with less than 15 employees will be also reviewed. The conclusions from the Human Capital Framework and the main components of a business plan will be used in the future development of an operating procedure. A business structure will be selected as part of this analysis. Finally, the business values and strategic goals that are most important to all participating parties will be mentioned. / text

In order to minimize the seasonality of forage production and maintain nutritional quality, the use of intercropping in winter crops is an alternative that promotes the availability of high quality fodder in the period when there is little growth of tropical pastures, aiming to supply the low quality food supply in the autumn and winter with low implementation costs. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the methods of overgrazing of black oats in Tifton-85 irrigated pasture in low-lying cerrado, under grazing of sheep for two years, analyzing productivity, production costs and composition of grassland forage consortium. The experimental treatments used were: control (Tifton-85 pasture), rearing performed on the Tifton-85 pasture of oats before grazing of sheep; oats during grazing of sheep; oats with compaction with tractor; oats with surface sorting; and oats with surface sorting and tractor compaction. The experimental design was conducted in randomized complete blocks with six treatments (overpressure and control methods) and four replicates (24 experimental units). According to the results obtained, the method of overwintering of black oats in the Tifton-85 grass before grazing is recommended, since it presents an effective participation in the botanical composition of the pasture, increasing the availability of forage, with nutritional quality and low implantation cost.

[pt] A RELAÇÃO ENTRE OS NÍVEIS DE GOVERNANÇA CORPRATIVA E A RENTABILIDADE DAS EMPRESAS LISTADAS NA B3 DURANTE A CRISE PROVOCADA PELO COVID-19 / [en] THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CORPORATE GOVERNANCE LEVELS AND THE PROFITABILITY OF COMPANIES LISTED ON B3 DURING THE CRISIS CAUSED BY COVID-19

14 October 2021 (has links)
[en] Corporate governance is a set of practices used to minimize agency conflicts and risks related to companies seeking to increase income and, consequently, a increase the expected return for investors. Due to the importance of governance in Brazil and in the world, this research wanted to test the contributions of the highest levels of governance to the profitability of companies listed on B3 in the period of impact with the Covid-19 pandemic in the year of 2020. To achieve this goal, the ROA and ROE profitability indexes of each company in the sample were collected to validate whether the level of governance of the companies impacted their performance for the period 2017 to 2020. Additionally, leverage, liquidity and size variables were used as control variables for the companies analysed. Aiming to verify the existence of differences between the averages of the profitability indexes due to the level of corporate governance, the Panel Data methodology with fixed effects was used, as it is understood that due to the choice of data, it would present the best results for the research. The research result suggests that the different levels of governance do not have a direct significant relationship with the company s economic-financial performance. Achieving this result possibly demonstrates that the reason related to the option of companies to obtain higher levels of governance is related to their ability to bring equity and transparency in accountability, thus aiming to promote greater reliability/credibility on the part of the investors.

Economic viability of a floating gas-to-liquids (GTL) plant / Michael Etim Bassey

Bassey, Michael Etim January 2007 (has links)
Today, a large proportion of the world's plenteous offshore natural gas resource are stranded, flared or re-injected due to constraints pertaining to its utilisation. The major constraint in the utilisation of this resource is linked to its properties, which makes it difficult to transport or store. Although the resource presents an excellent opportunity for the Gas-to-Liquid (GTL) technology (process for converting natural gas into high energy liquid fuels with qualities that surpass the most stringent current and future clean-fuel requirements), the further processing of this resource is still impeded by high cost of transportation. However, it is believed that the emerging Floating GTL concept could offer superb opportunities to bring such offshore stranded natural gas reserves to markets by converting the gas into high quality liquid fuels, at the production sites, before it is transported using conventional oil tankers or vessels. But the question is: can this venture be profitable or economically viable? In response, an Economic Model (the EV Model) to review the economic viability of the Floating GTL option was developed. Analyses on technical and economical aspects of the floating GTL application offshore are presented with case studies on Syntroleum's and Statoil's floating GTL designs. Profitability analyses were conducted using the EV model to evaluate economic parameters such as Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Discounted PayBack Period (DPBP), Profitability index (PI), Break-Even Analysis (BEA) and Scale Economies for some assumed case scenarios involving both designs. In addition, sensitivity analyses were also carried out to find the most sensitive parameters which affect the viability of the floating GTL option. The economic analyses revealed that, a modest feedstock cost (~0 - $3/MSCF), high crude oil price (that stays above $30 per barrel) and reduction trend in capital expenditure (for stand alone Floating GTL plant) up to $20,00O/BPD or lower in the next few years, will open windows for the floating GTL concept. Finally, the energy policy needed to achieve the capitalisation of the plenteous offshore stranded gas resource via floating GTL is also discussed. / Thesis (M.Ing.
