Parish, people and the English Bible in East Anglia, 1525-1560Duke, Gregory January 2004 (has links)
This thesis examines the impact of the English Bible upon the people and parishes of Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex between 1525 and 1560. It examines two major themes of this impact: firstly, the level of success of the installation of the Great Bible in the parish churches; secondly, the effects of the publication and open reading of the scriptures in the vernacular upon the laity of East Anglia. The first theme explains the reasons for the order to install English scripture in the churches, and the information on the success of this installation provided by prosecution records and churchwardens' accounts. It then introduces an obscure document set, the church-plate certificates produced during the reign of Edward VI, and using these examines the level of installation of the Bible and of the religious injunctions of 1547. The results of the study of the church-plate certificates and churchwardens' accounts are compared with a number of factors, including parish wealth, proximity to towns and agricultural patterns, to determine which types of parishes were more likely to comply. The second theme examines the various responses of laypersons to the appearance of the English Bible in East Anglia. Although much of this section has been derived from records of prosecution, it also studies the effects of the English Bible on diverse events such as Kett's Rebellion of 1549, popular printing in Ipswich and the production of educational primers. This section also looks at the level of scriptural knowledge of laypersons ranging from that of Robert Reynys, a churchreeve of Acle, of the 1430's, to that of the prosecuted Marian Protestants during the 1550's.

Arkiverad men inte tillgängliggjord : En studie av upphovsrättslagen, kollektiva avtalslicenser och tillgängliggörande av digitaliserat arkivmaterial / Archived but not available : A study about copyright, extended collective licenses and the process of making digitalised archives availableGranholm, Magdalena January 2014 (has links)
This study focuses on the Nordic model of Extended Collective Licenses (ECL) and how this model can be used in the process of digitalising and publishing archival material such as photos, letters, maps or films. The question that this study aims to deal with is what advantages, and disadvantages, there are for archives and copyright holders when an ECL is being used. To help answering this question the ‘theory of the knowledge commons’ has been applied. The research question has been answered through a text analysis based on legal texts including Swedish law. To get a wider perspective, international literature such as official and law-binding documents from the Nordic countries and the European Union have also been consulted. Policies and contributions to the debate about making cultural heritage available online have also been included to give light to the complexity of the question. In 2013 the Swedish copyright law was changed to facilitate for certain archives and libraries to sign an agreement with a so called Collective Administration Organization (CAO). There are no examples of ECLs being used by Swedish archives for classical archival materials even if the possibility to draw up this type of agreements has existed since 2005. One of the reasons might be the complexity of the law and that the archival institutions have problems of interpreting it. The institutions often avoid providing access to their materials online or choose material they know is in the public domain already. Finding copyright holders before publishing material online is time-consuming. One of the major advantages of functional ECLs is that they save time and resources – both for the archival institutions and the copyright holders. The ECLs provide an opportunity for the archival institutions to share their collections with the public and the copyrights holders get an organized way to communicate their terms and conditions. This is a two years master’s thesis in Archive, Library and Museum studies.

English: The Naval Commissioner, Jaheel Brenton's passion and diligence regarding Bible distribution leads to the founding of the second Auxiliary of the British and Foreign Bible Society in Africa. This founding meeting takes place on 23 August 1820 under the chairmanship of the lieutenant-governor at the Cape, Sir Rufane Donkin. Only in 1965 does the Bible Society of South Africa become an independent Bible Society and became immediately a contributing Society towards the World Service Programme of the United Bible Societies. In 1970 the publication, God made it grow, appears, describing the history of the Bible Society of South Africa from 1820 to 1970. A comprehensive study of this has not hitherto been executed. Reports are published annually but are directed at the contributing donors of the Bible Society of South Africa with relevant information conveyed in the form of summaries. It is, however, remarkable that a missiological study has never been done on the activities of the Bible Society of South Africa. Considering the fact that the Bibles Society is the only organization in South Africa which officially translates, produces and distributes the Bible in all our indigenous languages, one must question the relevance of this organization's activities towards the development of missionary actions in South Africa and Southern Africa. Over the years the Bible Society's involvement regarding translation projects into the indigenous languages of our country has changed considerably. Nowadays, teams of translators are appointed in the service of the Bible Society. They do the translation on behalf of the Church, missionary organizations and the broader Christian community. The Bible Society of South Africa maintains a unique relationship with the Church, missionary organizations and with the broader Christian community and a wide spectrum of co-operation exists. The Bible Society is dependant on the churches, missionary organizations and the broader Christian community for human resources and financial support. Accordingly, churches, missionary organizations and the broader Christian community are dependant on the Bible Society for Bibles and other related material in the indigenous languages of our country. This study has indicated the presence of a missionary vision in the activities of the Bible Society of South Africa as well as their donors. Indeed this missionary vision has resulted in the establishment of Christianity in South Africa. This study clearly indicates that the Bible Society of South Africa is an integral part of the missionary playing-field in South Africa, also with regard to the future. / Thesis (PhD (Science of Religion and Missiology))--University of Pretoria, 2007. / Science of Religion and Missiology / unrestricted

This thesis deals about the history of textbooks taking as the object of analysis the functioning of the circuit that was organized around them on the second half of the 19th Century and the first decade of the 20th Century in the Amazonian school context. The number of studies that takes book history and didactic editions as objects of research has been increasing in Brazil. It is in the interior of that production context that this work is inserted. For the development our research, we have used Robert Darnton¿s model of analysis in regard to the communication circuit made by the books in the different phases of their existence: production, diffusion and consumption. Working with different sources, the thesis showed some faces of textbook circuit in the State of Amazonas zeroing on some aspects not very well known, such as: the subjects, the practices and devices that were involved in the dynamics of textbook circuit / Doutorado / Educação, Conhecimento, Linguagem e Arte / Doutor em Educação
