Parents' constructions of the role of the helping professional in learning support

Zimmerman, Lisa 25 June 2007 (has links)
Within the helping professions there are contrasting epistemological views regarding the role of the helping professional, which have direct influences on learning support practices. Despite these views, it remains unclear what parents expect when seeking learning support for their children. This qualitative study explored parents’ constructions of the role of the helping professional in learning support. It specifically addressed parents’ expectations of the helping professional, what they value in their interactions with helping professionals as well as their understandings of their own roles in consultation and intervention for learning support. A case study approach was employed to gain access to participants. Specifically, three parents of children attending a school for Learners with Special Educational Needs [LSEN] were included as participants. These parents had had experiences with various helping professionals, both at the school and in private practice settings, in the course of seeking assistance for their children. It was thus thought that they would be able to provide in-depth perspectives as to their ideas of the role of helping professionals who assist children experiencing difficulties due to their exposure and experiences with helping professionals. Initial data collection was undertaken via semi-structured interviews with the participants. A content analysis of the interviews was subsequently employed to elicit affinities for use during a further modified form of Interactive Qualitative Analysis [IQA] with the contributors to the study. In total, fourteen affinities were generated and included Parental expectations, Professional characteristics, The helping process, Parents’ role, Status of the helping professional, Professional approach, Parents’ personal experiences, Parents’ emotions, Assessment, Recommendations, Stigma, a Team approach, parent-professional Interaction and Values. These affinity descriptions were corroborated and expanded on with the participants and the relationships amongst the affinities where then hypothesised by the participants themselves. A central outcome of the study was the research participants’ social representations of helping professionals. These representations comprise the thematic elements representing the participants’ discourse about the role of helping professionals in learning support and provide the participants’ in-depth ideas of the relationships amongst these elements. / Dissertation (MEd (Educational Psychology))--University of Pretoria, 2007. / Educational Psychology / unrestricted

Den skolstrejkande flickansom blev världsberömdklimataktivist : En kvalitativ och kvantitativ innehållsanalys av hur Greta Thunberg gestaltats i svensk dags och kvällspress / The girl who became a world famous climate activist : A qualitative and quantitative analysis of the framing of Greta Thunberg in Swedish newspapers

Ström, Julia, Daneshmand-Mehr, Ella January 2020 (has links)
Since Greta Thunberg started her environmental school strike in August 2018 she has become a world famous activist and has been portrayed in news media everywhere. The aim of this bachelor study has been to examine how Greta Thunberg has been portrayed in the Swedish news media through examining two daily press newspapers and two evening press newspapers. This resulted in analyzing articles in Aftonbladet, Expressen, Dagens Nyheter and Svenska Dagbladet. By using a qualitative and a quantitative content analysis we investigated three different events connected to Greta Thunberg through published articles. During 2018 the event that started her journey, which is the school strike, was selected as one of these happenings. During 2019 we chose her UN- speech in New York, and for the last event her speech at the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting in Davos was chosen. By choosing these specific events we could build a perception of what the media's portrayal of Greta Thunberg has been like during these three years. Therefore this study also aimed to answer the following research questions: - How has Greta Thunberg been portrayed in the daily press and the evening press? - Has the portrayal of Greta Thunberg changed over time? In this study we used the Framing Theory and also the protest paradigms as guidelines and we also applied von Zabern & Tulloch (2020) and Bergmann & Ossewaardes (2020) different frames. This study then led to an identification of a new framing of Greta Thunberg which we named “Speaking without speaking”, mostly consisting of what politicians and celebrities are saying about Greta Thunberg in the press. We also found that by examining these specific events that Greta Thunberg has been portrayed in different ways. Therefore we could also conclude that the framings and portrayals of Greta Thunberg changed throughout time. This means that she went from being portrayed as a young girl skipping school for the climate, to a world famous environmental activist and finally becoming a trustworthy leader. Therefore our study shows that Greta Thunberg was being undermined due to her young age in the ibeginning, but as her status grew the media changed their portrayal of her into the role model that she has become today.

Lingán Laura, Dara Milena 10 September 2020 (has links)
Currently, there are brands that make use of femvertising in their advertising spots, in a way that defies gender stereotypes present in society, in order to achieve female empowerment. Also, there are investigations that analyze the presence of femvertising in different advertising spots related to beauty or self-love; but no research has been published that analyzes any advertisement related to gender stereotypes present in the workplace. On the other hand, there is little research that studies the effects of femvertising, that is, if it really fulfills its objective of empowering women. This work will analyze the effectiveness of the femvertising present in the advertising spot ‘Mujeres Presentes’ published on YouTube that seeks to empower women in the workplace. For this, the perception of the professors of the Faculties of Engineering and Health Sciences the UPC, careers considered male will be examined. Therefore, this research will be positioned in the phenomenological paradigm and the method that will be used will be qualitative, so that a deep understanding of the experiences lived by the teachers is sought. Pružinová, Kristýna January 2021 (has links)
This diploma thesis focuses on the qualitative analysis of selected episodes of the documentary series Kronika našeho života, which is considered to be one of the greatest propaganda television works at that time of producing. Its forty episodes were originally broadcasted on the first channel of the Czechoslovak Television from April until June 1985. The objective of this thesis is to find out which propaganda techniques were used and how they differed in the selected episodes. The analysis works with nine propaganda techniques drawn out by an American sociologist Alfred McClung Lee and maps them in the selected episodes. Furthermore, in order to describe the media image of the series at the time of its broadcasting, the thesis focuses on the analysis of selected Czechoslovakian periodicals. Specifically on the weekly newspaper Týdeník Československá televize and three daily newspapers - Rudé právo, Lidová demokracie and Svobodné slovo. Moreover, the analysis is accompanied by an interview with a Czech director and screenwriter Miloslav Kučera, who studied Kronika našeho života in the past. The theoretical...

Vybrané události období rozpadu Sovětského svazu a jejich obraz v českých médiích / Main events of the period of dissolution of the Soviet Union in Czech media

Mališová, Klára January 2021 (has links)
This thesis deals with how three chosen Czech daily newspapers - Rudé právo, Mladá fronta (later Mladá fronta DNES) and Lidové noviny - wrote about significant events that took place in the union republics during the last three years of the Soviet Union's existence (1989-1991). It specifically focuses on those events through which the republics were trying to regain freedom and independence for themselves - either through protests, or in a political matter. The thesis also addresses events that were somehow groundbreaking or during which ordinary people, who went to the streets to express their dissaproval of current political situation or to defend legally elected bodies, lost their lives. The thesis uses qualitative analysis to find out if there was a difference in how these three selected Czech newspapers wrote about such events in the context of changes that occured in the Czech political and media system, and if each own coverage somehow evolved.

Risk Management Support System / Risk Management Support System

Kubíček, Jan January 2010 (has links)
The work provides theoretical base of project management. It describes the current approach to project management as a combination of multiple processes. The process of risk management is described with special care. It also discuss some of the different approaches to risk management. \\ The work suggests new way of handling risk management, that combines risk management and data mining. Data mining approach is also used to mine quantitative risk values. This approach was successfully implemented and tested. Tests showed that this approach is very useful for omitted risk identification. Unfortunately it is also not recommendable for mining quantitative risk values.
