Spiritual fulfilment in the corporate world : a phenomenological study

M.Phil. / People are living in a stressful world, which is characterised by materialism, narrow self-centeredness, lack of meaning and dearth commitment (1.1). This results in people loosing touch of their spiritual core. They are searching for meaning and purpose in their lives, both at home and at work. Furthermore, companies seem not to take into account that people are more than just mind and body, with unique and special gifts. Companies treat people as numbers and not as people (1.2). The purpose of this study was to create an understanding of the concept spirituality and secondly to understand how employees experience spiritual fulfilment in the workplace and if the employer addresses their spiritual needs (as per 1.3). The study consequently aimed to describe the key elements of the concept spirituality in the workplace (as per Chapter 2), in an attempt to identify and disclose the current experience of spiritual fulfilment in the workplace (described in Chapter 3) — which might aid us in increasing employee productivity. The research has been done from a Personal and Professional Leadership perspective (1.6). This perspective is based on the assumption that human beings have an ongoing commitment and accompaniment to growth and dev'elopment, through self-knowledge and self-awareness, finding a purpose, realising one's full potential and co-operation with and adding value to other people's lives. In endeavoring to address the study's problem, the researcher subsequently decided to make use of a hermeneutic phenomenological research strategy, and to conduct an extensive literature review, word and concept analysis as well as focus group and individual interviews in order to meet the research objectives. The result of the literature study has consequently been described in Chapter 2 in an attempt to: meet the research objective (1.4) of what can be seen as the spiritual needs of workers, as well as to establish the link between the productivity of the workers and their spiritual fulfilment.

Work-life balance, happiness and well-being go hand-in-hand with the quality of life, the quality of working life and the level of satisfaction with both. A recent survey that took place in the Czech Republic in 2018 attempted to measure the quality of life using the WHOQOL questionnaire developed by the World Health Organization. It also used the SQWLi instrument proposed by Vinopal et al. to measure the quality of working life perceived subjectively. The overall aim of this work is to challenge the theory of Danna and Griffin, summarized back in 1999, which says that the quality of life and the quality of working life are interrelated domains. It is interesting to see whether the same results can be achieved even nowadays- almost 20 years after their statement was issued-with respect to the Czech population. The spillover theory supports Dana and Griffin's statements, showing the causal association between the concepts. The main questions of the study are the folllowing. First, is there a relationship between the quality of life and the quality of working life?. Second, how strong is the association between the quality of life and the quality of working life? Quality of work life and career change among online technical advisors

There is currently a phenomenon of young people changing jobs in our country. This research looks at the reasons why mechanics leave the workshop environment to pursue a career as a technical advisor in the call centre. The technical advisors all make the transition at a particular stage in their lives and this will be looked at in terms of Super’s (1980) developmental theory, with a particular focus on the stage of establishment. The dissertation takes the reader on a journey through the lives of five technical advisors at a particular organisation, and compares and contrasts the two work environments and the quality of work life associated with both. The study will also focus on stress that they experience while making the transition from mechanic to technical advisor and how this impacts on their work and personal lives. The study was exploratory in nature and was investigated through the qualitative method of interviewing.

The aim of this work is firstly to test the functionality of the two indices, the quality of life index and the quality of working life index, and then examine the existence and potential strength of the relationship between them within the selected subgroups of population. The work builds up on two basic pillows. The first pillow deals with the defitions of the explored phenomena. The concept of quality of life is explored at different levels: philosophical, sociological, subjective and objective. Then the rationale for developing a tool that measures the quality of life is described, including the variations of the Czech adaptation of the questionnaire. The Tenure Process in LIS: A Survey of LIS/IS Program Directors

This survey addressed the experience of receiving tenure through the personal narratives of Directors of Library and Information Science Schools in the USA. Fifty-five respondents were asked to rank the emphasis of the variables operating in tenure based on their experience. Participants agreed that the granting of autonomy via tenure was an opportunity to exercise academic freedom. With tenure came the responsibility to contribute as a citizen of both the institutional and disciplinary communities of the profession. The most prominent factor in determining tenure and promotion decisions for LIS faculty is demonstration of research productivity through peer reviewed publications: articles, books and conference proceedings. Teaching and service are also important components of academic life. It was found that collaboration underpinned collegiality and created an environment conducive to research. In turn, the stability and collegiality of a tenured position made the institution work as a teaching and learning environment.

In an era of information and scientific technology, the marketing value and competitive advantage of a company is determined by its staff. An eligible employee is able to provide the organization with an outstanding performance and productivity while an ineligible one can waste the administration costs of recruiting and job training. Therefore, it is crucial for a company to investigate the key factors of how its novices¡¦ job values interact with its culture and of how the novices¡¦ EQ (emotion quotient) influence their job performance. The investigation assists the company not only in improving the efficiency of the recruiting but also in redesigning the work environment and managerial system, so as to achieve the goals of attracting capable talents and raising competition. The main purpose of this thesis is to discuss the influence of the job values and EQ of the staff in property insurance on their job performance. Our study will target the staff members in Taiwan by questionnaires through ways of convenient sampling. According to our study, the job values of the insurance staff do not influence their job performances directly. Nevertheless, First, the insurance staff need to have many kinds of professional knowledge and broad visions. Second, their workplaces and job properties are flexible and variable. Third, the insurance staff have to know a little basic law knowledge, and they have to negotiate or communicate with people to achieve compromises. Fourth, it¡¦s common for the insurance staff to contact any kind of people. Fifth, the insurance staff have special feelings and conceptions for their job values, which differentiate them from those whose workplaces and job properties are fixed and standardized. Emotional Quotient and job performances are proved to have positive and influential relationships. Our evidence verifies that outstanding insurance staff are aware of their emotions and they develop good interpersonal relationships by hiding and adjusting their emotions. Besides, the outstanding insurance staff develop their social skills well by extending their interpersonal relationships with their colleagues and society. In the end, they achieve the goals set by their companies.
