The aims of religious education in Lesotho

Ramahadi, Evangeline Dineo January 2015 (has links)
This dissertation attempts to identify the aims of Religious Education in Lesotho secondary schools. The time of missionary .enterprise in the Nineteenth Century has been followed in the second half of the Twentieth Century by dynamic political and socioeconomic change. This period is marked by considerable uncertainty about the aims of religious education. This is a descriptive study, and uses relevant literature to find what could be acceptable, appropriate aims for the teaching u. religion in Lesotho, Chapters 1 to 4 establish that the more common but questionable aims of religious instruction in Lesotho secondary schools can be traced back to the era of evangelization in tne last century. A review of the literature follows. In Chapters 5 and 6 the idea of conversion and morality as the aims of religious education is dismissed, leaving Education as the only possible aim. The climax, in Chapter 7, presents the opposing views of writers on religious education on the issue: Can religion be taught os part of education or not? Has it a place in the school curriculum? The debate arises from this discussion. In support of its argument, to is study draws much from the concept of education as described by R, S. Peters, and P. H. Hirst. It concludes that religious studies can be educational despite religion's epistemic problem. With Lesotho's educational situation in view, the study selects the medial, instructional a litis which can contribute toward the attainment of this primary and general aim* namely Education.

Peter Halldorfs spiritualitet som den speglas i hans egna böcker : Utveckling, influenser och förändring / The Spirituality of Peter Halldorf Studied Through His Own Books : Development, Influences and Changes

Erixon, Björne January 2019 (has links)
This study is a historical investigation of the Christian spirituality of a Swedish Pentecostal author, pastor and Retreat leader, Peter Halldorf. His books from 1984 to 2019 were investigated, using three categories; doctrines (beliefs), practices and affections. The investigation reveals a considerable change over the years in Halldorf`s spirituality as evidenced in the texts. The investigation shows the persons and milieus that have had formative influence on Halldorf’s spirituality, chiefly Alexander Schmemann, Thomas Merton, Lev Gillet, Pope Francis, Matta-Al-Miskin, the Desert Fathers, early Christianity through Church Fathers, and especially the spirituality of Eastern Churches. Halldorf’s books are characterized by a desire for Bible centered discipleship and radical holiness for the ultimate purpose of Christian unity. The great Christian Tradition is very important in Peter Halldorf’s books and his spirituality

Yezidier : - En uppsats om Malak Tawus utvalda folk

Korkmaz, Elin January 2019 (has links)

The overturn of the resurrection – a new reading of The treatise on the resurrection. : The Valentinian rejection of realised eschatology in Nag Hammadi codex 1,4

Perstadius, Carina January 2019 (has links)
“The Treatise on the resurrection” is a Coptic translation of a Greek source text that not is preserved. The text belongs to the Nag Hammadi codices. The text is probably produced during the second century. In this thesis, the text will be placed in the Valentinian context, and then as the Valentinianism is presented in codices 1 and XI.1. The research object for the thesis is an examination of the concept “resurrection”, ἀνάστασις. The method is the author-intentional theory of meaning; the thesis focuses on the intents of the author and not the reader´s perspective. The analysis is based on the Coptic source text. A new translation with comments will also be presented. Scholars have unanimity presumed that the text proclaims a realised eschatology. However, from a Valentinian point of view, there is no sustainable evidence for this postulation. The text can also refer to a future “resurrection” with an intermediate state in the spiritual body of the Saviour. The author redefines the sense and meaning of “resurrection”. /
Godkännande datum 2019-08-26

A study of the religious context of the Christian College and University: 1976-1986

Unknown Date (has links)
The religious context of the Christian College and University from 1976 to 1986 is examined in this dissertation. The purpose is to determine to what extent the religious context of these institutions has changed. The two research questions asked are: (1) Has there been a change in the emphasis on the religious context of the Christian college or university in the past ten years? and (2) Is there a difference in the religious context of nondenominational and denominational institutions in 1985-86? From a population of 817 religious colleges and universities, two random samples are taken from 50 denominational and 50 nondenominational Christian institutions from each year. The religious content is measured against five criteria: required religion or theology courses, chapel attendance, on-campus student religious organizations, church attendance, and mission statement. These criteria were established by the Danforth Commission in 1966. A review of the literature examines the historical perspective of the secularization of both religious and non-religious institutions. A content analysis of the sampled institutions' catalogs is used to obtain the data. Several statistical methods are used on the data: ANOVA, Z-tests, and t-tests. The results indicate that there has been relatively little statistical change in the past ten years, however, the results do indicate that there is a significant difference in the 1986 sample between the two types of institutions for required religion courses, chapel attendance and mission statement. An independent analysis of religious style reveals that there are alternative ways to examine the entire religious context of Christian colleges and universities. To illustrate that, four representative institutions are examined. They are Boston University, Drew University, St. Joseph University, and Brigham Young University. Appropriate conclusions are made, as well as suggestions for further research. / Source: Dissertation Abstracts International, Volume: 49-06, Section: A, page: 1419. / Major Professor: David W.
