Res extra commercium / Res extra commercium

Ulrych, Karel January 2014 (has links)
Res extra commercium The purpose of this thesis is to analyse one category of things - things outside commerce (res extra commercium) in Roman Law, especially one of the main classes of these things, things in divine ownership (res divini iuris). The thesis consists of four chapters, which are further subdivided into parts. First chapter describes basic methods of dividing things in the system of the Roman Law, thus defining the topic of this thesis. Second chapter, which constitutes the main and the longest part of the thesis, deals with religious things (res religiosae). After the first subchapter, which contains basic demarcation of res religiosae, follows the second subchapter, which focuses on legal status of these things. Within its framework are also addressed some issues and concepts common to all three categories of the things in divine ownership. Third subchapter contains the analysis of the legal relations of the persons concerned with religious things. In the fourth subchapter is explanation of the actio funeraria, which was used for the settlement of expenses among persons who arranged a funeral, and persons, who had the obligation to cover the costs of that funeral. Finally, the fifth subchapter concentrates on the protection of res religiosae and protection related to them - on the protection...

Design of a desalination plant : aspects to consider

Martinez, Hiroki January 2010 (has links)

One of the main problems our actual society faces is the shortage of water. Despite the great effort made by authorities and researchers, multiple countries with poor economic resources are experiencing serious difficulties derivative of water scarcity. Desalination provides a feasible solution for inland and coastal areas. Through literature and reviewed articles analysis the reader will meet the actual issues regarding designing a desalination plant, and more over with reverse osmosis (RO) processes, which are the main arguments of this work. One of the big deals is the environmental concern when handling the concentrate disposal. Another important point about desalination processes is the increasingly interest in coupling the units with renewable energy sources (RES). The results point out that regardless of the efforts made until today, additional achievement is required in fields such as membrane’s structure materials for RO method, concentrate disposal systems, governmental water policies review and update, and greater distinction researches between brackish water and seawater RO desalination processes. Taking into consideration the previous outcomes it is finally concluded that some particular steps must be accomplished when beginning a desalination plant design.

A definição de populus n\'A cidade de Deus de santo Agostinho: uma controvérsia com Da república de Cícero / The definition of populus in The city of God, of Augustine: a controverse with Cicero\'s On the Republic

Silva Filho, Luiz Marcos da 01 September 2008 (has links)
In The city of God, book XIX, Augustine refutes the ciceronian definitions of res publica and populus, founded on justice, and redefines both terms according to a conception of love. Such an enterprise reveals not only the authors distinct conceptions of justice. As a matter of fact, in having to critique the definitions according to the law, Augustine simultaneously understands them through concepts of his own, such as nature, sin, grace, virtue, time and eternity, transcendence and presence, which articulate and constitute themselves throughout The city of God along with the concept of love. Thus, a set of presuppositions underlies the authors rejection of the ciceronian definitions. This study aims, therefore, at examining the general plan of both authors works Ciceros On the Republic; Augustines The city of God in order to understand the irreducibility of their philosophies and why Augustine needed to redefine those political terms.

Zataženo, na obzoru svítá: Analýza podpůrných mechanismů výroby energie z obnovitelných zdrojů / Somewhat cloudy with a chance of sunshine: Analysis of renewable energy generation support schemes

Bízek, Jan January 2013 (has links)
Support for electricity generation from renewable energy sources is one of measures aimed at switch of European economies from fossil fuels to renewables. In the past a lot of attention was paid to the theoretical assessment of different support schemes, however, analysis of the empirical data on those schemes is somewhat lacking. This thesis analyses assessment of two types of support schemes in three countries on empirical data. The main contribution of this work is (i) expansion of previously used methodology that analyses relationship between investments into electricity generation from renewable energy and the net present value of such investments, and (ii) inclusion of the Czech Republic into the list of observed countries. JEL Classification E61, O31, O33, O38, Q28, Q42 Keywords renewables, RES-E, photovoltaics Author's e-mail jbizek@gmail.com Supervisor's e-mail milan.scasny@czp.cuni.cz

Back to the Rough Ground: Towards a Conservative Theory of Democracy

Giesbrecht, Jared 27 August 2013 (has links)
This work seeks to recover the critical spirit of conservatism and re-emphasize its goal of stability and resilience in society. I will argue that we should strive to view ourselves as deeply dependent and persistently vulnerable beings rather than free, equal, and rational individuals. An understanding of ourselves as embodied and interconnected patternings-in-the-world – res ecologia – will allow us to better recognize a diffuse violence at work in the modern world. I consider the nature of causation and suggest that the internal stability of res ecologia, when disrupted, should be a primary concern when considering the nature of violence and domination. I then invite us to understand the violence and domination arising in modern liberal societies – protocolic modulations – as abstract standardization that ensures efficient synchronization between individuated or atomized actors. Further, I suggest that the rapid modulations of this kind of protocolic domination disrupt the structural causation within and between res ecologia. In chapter five, I begin to show how this kind of violence and domination is manifest in and through the tradition of liberalism by tracing out a shared, underlying dualistic logic that simultaneously individuates and totalizes. In chapter six, I turn to the role of reason in creating freedom and legitimizing violence. Reason is seen to be contributing to both freedom and domination depending upon whether or not it creates resilience within society that resists standardizations. In chapter seven, I argue that the only way to effectively counter the excessive violence within the dualistic logic of liberalism is to cultivate an ethic of mutual support and restraint that invests society with stability and resilience. Finally, I conclude by contending that a resilient society requires intermediate structures and civil enterprises to instill tradition and reciprocal responsibilities in interdependent familial, socio-economic, and religious life. / Graduate / 0615 / jared.giesbrecht@gmail.com
