Objectives: The library partners with the college of medicine to teach third-year students on a clinical rural rotation about searching, evidence-based medicine (EBM), and how to develop a portrait of the counties where health fairs are conducted using health statistics. This paper focuses on the process of our involvement in both the program with students and the recruitment of the physicians. Methods: This paper will look at both responses to student surveys about the rotation along with surveys of the rural rotation preceptors to determine their views on the addition of the librarian training to the program. A major recruitment tool used by the university for preceptors is the access to the library's resources. This survey will also attempt to look at the impetus library resource access had on their agreeing to precept for the rural track program. Results: Surveys are ongoing. Preliminary results show that the students feel more comfortable with utilizing both resources and librarians. Preceptors feel that the library is a great tool to get them to sign up. Conclusions: The role of the librarian in the rural clinical rotation is constantly evolving and becoming more dynamic. Many opportunities exist for future collaboration with the group.

Audit committee members play a pivotal role in the audit process, specifically, when negotiating disputes between management and the external auditor concerning audit adjustments. According to Auditing Standard 16 (formerly AU Section 380.34-.44), the external auditors are required to discuss, with the audit committee, all significant findings resulting from the completion of the audit including: (i) qualitative aspects of estimates; (ii) uncorrected misstatements; and (iii) disagreements with management (PCAOB 2015). Prior literature suggests an audit committee’s propensity to support the external auditor when dealing with the issues described above (Knapp 1987; DeZoort and Salterio 2001; DeZoort et al. 2003b; DeZoort et al. 2003a). However, these studies do not address how behavioral factors such as a relationship between the external auditors and audit committee members can affect a member’s stance on a proposed audit adjustment. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect that the relationship between audit committee members and external auditors has on a member’s recommendation for proposed audit adjustments during a management dispute with the external auditor (i.e., whether they side with the external auditors or management). Specifically, this experiment examines the effects of relationships and the mediating effect of external auditor tenure on an audit committee member's judgments through the application of several social cognitive theories: (i) attachment theory; (ii) social judgment theory; (iii) and internal working models. Results indicate that external auditor/audit committee member relationships and auditor tenure significantly influence an audit committee member’s decision making when faced with an auditor/management dispute. Also, auditor tenure (long) does not negatively affect audit quality.

Competition control in mid-rotation loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) stands

Woody competition during mid-rotation limits available nutrients to crop species. Mid-rotation competition control was evaluated to determine if applications would result in significant increase in growth. Two studies were initiated using herbicides and prescribed burning on mid-rotation loblolly pine plantations. The first study contained afforested stands in Mississippi. Combination of imazapyr and burn was applied. The second study contained reforested sites in Mississippi. Treatments consisted of imazapyr and burn, imazapyr only, burn only, and a control. Five-year post-treatment measurements for the first study showed no significant treatment differences in height, diameter, basal area, or volume growth. Nine-year post-treatment measurements for the second study showed no significant differences in growth using the same measurements. Although previous research has documented significant growth responses to mid-rotation competition control, results from this study demonstrate that increased growth does not always result from mid-rotation competition control, suggesting initial site conditions may dictate degree of response.

Effects of tibial tuberosity advancement and meniscal release on kinematics of the canine cranial cruciate deficient stifle during early, middle, and late stance

Little research has been done to validate the biomechanical principles of tibial tuberosity advancement (TTA) throughout stance. The present study evaluates the effects of TTA on kinematics of the cranial cruciate (CrCL) deficient stifle during early, middle, and late stance. Cadaveric pelvic limbs were evaluated for the effects of TTA on kinematics under a load equivalent to 30% bodyweight and under the following treatment conditions: intact CrCL, CrCL deficient, TTA-treated, and TTA treated + meniscal release. Electromagnetic tracking sensors were used to determine tibial subluxation and rotation relative to the femur. Transection of the CrCL resulted in significant cranial tibial subluxation during early, middle, and late stance and significant internal rotation during early and middle stance. TTA normalized tibial subluxation in early, middle, and late stance but was unsuccessful in normalizing axial rotation in middle stance. Meniscal release had no effect on cranial/caudal or rotational displacement when performed following TTA.

Electromyographic Analysis of the Infraspinatus and Deltoid Muscles During Shoulder External Rotation Exercises With and Without a Towel Roll

Standing and sidelying external rotation exercises produce high activation of the deltoid and infraspinatus. Holding a towel roll under the arm at 30° shoulder abduction during these exercises may decrease deltoid activity and increase infraspinatus activity. The objective was to determine if the addition of a towel under the arm during standing and sidelying external rotation affects EMG activity of the infraspinatus, middle and posterior deltoid, and pectoralis major, compared to the no towel condition. 20 male volunteers (age; 26 ± 3, height; 1.80 m ± .07 m, weight; 77 kg ± 10 kg) had right dominant hand, bilaterally healthy shoulders with no current cervical pathology, and no skin infection or lesion of the shoulder. Maximal voluntary isometric contraction for the infraspinatus, middle and posterior deltoid, and pectoralis major and external rotation in standing and sidelying with and without a towel roll were performed. Normalized average and peak EMG amplitude was compared between the towel conditions during standing and sidelying external rotation. Both infraspinatus and pectoralis major activity had no significant differences between the towel conditions in standing and sidelying (P > .05). In standing and sidelying, posterior deltoid activity was significantly greater with a towel roll (.008 ≤ P ≤ .035 and .008 ≤ P ≤ .018, respectively). Middle deltoid activity had no significant differences between the towel conditions in standing (P > .05). However, in sidelying, middle deltoid activity was significantly lower with a towel roll (.011 ≤ P ≤ .000). The only muscle activation change during standing external rotation with the application of a towel roll was an increase of the posterior deltoid. During sidelying external rotation, holding a towel roll decreased middle deltoid activity and increased posterior deltoid activity. Thus, this study indicates that holding a towel roll under the arm during standing external rotation exercise does not appear to produce desired effects on muscle activation. However, application of a towel roll under the arm could be recommended during sidelying external rotation exercise in order to possibly reduce the superior glide of the humerus, due to decrease muscle activation of the middle deltoid.
