Real Time Data Reduction and Analysis Using Artificial Neural Networks

International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 25-28, 1993 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / An artificial neural network (ANN) for use in real time data reduction and analysis will be presented. The use and advantage of hardware and software implementations of neural networks will be considered. The ability of neural networks to learn and store associations between different sets of data can be used to create custom algorithms for some of the data analysis done during missions. Once trained, the ANN can distill the signals from several sensors into a single output, such as safe/unsafe. Used on a neural chip, the trained ANN can eliminate the need for A/D conversions and multiplexing for processing of combined parameters and the massively parallel nature of the network allows the processing time to remain independent of the number of parameters. As a software routine, the advantages of using an ANN over conventional algorithms include the ease of use for engineers, and the ability to handle nonlinear, noisy and imperfect data. This paper will apply the ANN to performance data from a T-38 aircraft.

A NEW 1553 ALL-BUS INSTRUMENTATION MONITOR

This paper discusses an airborne unit which acquires the information from up to 8 dual-redundant buses, and formats the data for telemetry, recording or real-time analysis according to the requirements of IRIG-106-86, Chapter 8. The ALBUS-1553 acquires all or selected 1553 messages which are formatted into IRIG-compatible serial data stream outputs. Data is time tagged to microsecond resolution. The unit selectively transmits entire or partial 1553 messages under program control. This results in reduced transmission bandwidth if prior knowledge of 1553 traffic is known. The ALBUS also encodes analog voice inputs, discrete userword inputs and multiplexed analog (overhead) inputs. The unit is provided in a ruggedized airborne housing utilizing standard ATR packaging,

Next Generation End to End Avionics Bus Monitoring

Despite this, and the increased size of the data acquisition networks, the use of tightly integrated hardware, and setup and analysis software enable the FTI engineer to save time and increase productivity. This paper outlines how the use of innovative bus packetizer technology and the close integration of FTI software can simplify this process. The paper describes how packetizer technology is used to acquire data from avionics buses, and how it packages this data in a format that is optimized for network based systems. The paper further describes how software can simplify the process of configuring avionics bus monitors in addition to automating and optimizing the transport of data from various nodes in the acquisition network for transmission to either network recorders or via a telemetry link.
