Ljudets roll för emotion i film

Denna artikel beskriver processen av att återskapa ljud från IADS ljudbibliotek via audiell analys samt applicering av dessa ljud i film. Tre filmklipp valdes ut från olika filmer och för dessa skapades två olika ljudläggningar som menar att generera en viss huvudsaklig känsla från IADS. En enkät skickades ut som grund för att undersöka vilka känslor som alstrades. Resultaten indikerar att IADS-2 och IADS-E har potential att skapa känslomässiga responser i film. Detta fungerar dock endast under omständigheter där varken ljud eller bild tar över utan tillåts samarbeta för att skapa ett narrativ tillsammans. / This article covers the process of recreating sounds from the IADS libraries via audial analysis and applying them in a film context. Three movie clips were chosen from different movies and two different sound versions were created for each. Each version intended to provoke a certain emotional response from IADS. A survey was sent out as a basis for the evaluation of which emotions were generated. The results indicate that IADS-2 and IADS-E has potential to provoke emotional responses in movies. Although, this only works under circumstances where neither image nor sound takes over, but rather is allowed to work together to set the narrative.

A Low Cost, Quick Reaction TM Acquisition System Solution for Deployed Testing

This austere approach will be compared to a standard approach. TM candidate systems will be discussed along with exigencies and limitations (test geometry, link analysis, multiple test areas, schedule, cost, fabrication ...) that shaped their selection. Utilization of existing Radio Frequency (RF) systems in "unintended" applications will be discussed. System setup and BER testing with a simulated 'aircraft' will be presented, including observed multipath effects during testing, versus actual performance. Finally, benefits and test efficiencies garnered by having vehicle TM, real- time TM acquisition, processing and display, while deployed to a test area with no range instrumentation, will be presented.

Importance of selecting research stimuli : a comparative study of the properties, structure and validity of both standard and novel emotion elicitation techniques

The principal aim of this doctoral research has been to investigate whether various popular methods of emotion elicitation perform differently in terms of self-reported participant affect - and if so, whether any of them is better able to mimic real-life emotional situations. A secondary goal has been to understand how continuous affect can be classified into discrete categories - whether by using clustering algorithms, or resorting to human participants for creating the classifications. A variety of research directions subserved these main goals: firstly, developing data-driven strategies for selecting 'appropriate' stimuli, and matching them across various stimulus modalities (i.e., words, sounds, images,films and virtual environments / VEs); secondly, comparing the chosen modalities on various self-report measures (with VEs assessed both with and without a head-mounted display / HMD); thirdly, comparing how humans classify emotional information vs. a clustering algorithm; and finally, comparing all five lab-based stimulus modalities to emotional data collected via an experience sampling phone app. Findings / outputs discussed will include a matched database of stimuli geared towards lab use, how the choice of stimulus modality may affect research results, the links (or discrepancies) between human and machine classification of emotional information, as well as range restriction affecting lab stimuli relative to `real-life' emotional phenomena.

Next Generation End to End Avionics Bus Monitoring

Despite this, and the increased size of the data acquisition networks, the use of tightly integrated hardware, and setup and analysis software enable the FTI engineer to save time and increase productivity. This paper outlines how the use of innovative bus packetizer technology and the close integration of FTI software can simplify this process. The paper describes how packetizer technology is used to acquire data from avionics buses, and how it packages this data in a format that is optimized for network based systems. The paper further describes how software can simplify the process of configuring avionics bus monitors in addition to automating and optimizing the transport of data from various nodes in the acquisition network for transmission to either network recorders or via a telemetry link.
