Addressing Inclusion: Developing an innovative technology assisted learning package for educators and students for use in a UK Recovery College

No / Improving Inclusion: Developing An Innovative Technology Assisted Learning Package for a UK Recovery College for Mental Health Service Users. Recovery Colleges in the UK represent a new initiative in providing support and psycho-educational interventions for people with mental health difficulties as part of the 'Recovery movement' (Williams, 2016; Perkins and Slade, 2012). Multiple barriers exist for people with mental health difficulties, particularly among ethnic minorities) in accessing such services and include (but are not limited to) -financial problems, difficulties with transport, condition-related difficulties - (e.g. poor motivation, organisational difficulties or feeling unwell) (Memon et al.,2015). To overcome this we put together a collaborative research project with a technology business partners service users and service providers to develop a new technology assisted learning project to ease access to the College's taught sessions. This involved developing sophisticated video-recording and streaming software and hardware that could 64 live-broadcast college sessions to users in their own homes via a variety of hardware platforms. Users could participate in the taught sessions by means of the video/sound interactive software on tablets, mobile devices or their home computer. The innovative features of the TAL package are described, and the impact this facility had on user participation in the college programme evaluated. Particular attention is paid to the development and partnership nature of the project development. The implications for Recovery College and mental health service provider practice is discussed with particular reference to the potential future wider application of TAL packages to promoting access across other domains of mental health care.

Modeling and analysis of reverse recovery in PiN power diodes in series

Moore's Law influences more than just the speed of the latest microprocessor. The law drives many facets of the semiconductor realm. As Moore's Law continues to prevail, switching frequencies for electronics will rise. These increased switching frequencies will cause transient losses to be augmented, especially for power electronics. However, there has been a lack of work on how to improve the most simple semiconductor power device, the PiN diode. Therefore, considerable effort has been made to reduce switching losses in modern power semiconductor devices. Power diodes are used as a building block for almost all power electronics, especially boost converters for power factor correction. The re5earch presented in this thesis demonstrates that switching losses will be reduced when a power diode is replaced by two lower voltage diodes arranged in series. One such company, Q-speed, is already implementing such a technique [l]. The company is using two fast recovery diodes on one integrated circuit. Q-speed's results were comparable to more expensive methods to reduce switching losses such as the use of exotic materials like silicon-carbide. There have been many models to date for the PiN diode, but no research ha5 been published about this innovative idea. Research gathered in this thesis from extensive TCAD simulations and experiments will enlighten the power semiconductor field to this interesting approach.

The thesis is focused on questions of natural persons' recovery of debts according to the legal order of the Czech Republic. The purpose of the thesis was to provide creditors with comprehensive information and insight into the questions of recovery of natural persons' debts according to the legal order of the Czech Republic and to draw creditor's attention to legal possibilities when recovering debts. The outcome of the thesis is creation of diagram that can help creditors to better orientation. Diagram shows separate steps creditors can undergo when recovering debts. Particular possibilities when recovering debts are outlined, practical instruction and remarks are added, economic contexts are analysed, available statistics and development trends are analysed and proposals de lege ferenda are presented.

Tsunami action had resulted in negative impacts in many ways, it had resulted in great changes to coastal areas, especially in terms of physical change to the coastal landscape, affected on economy, loss of life and physical damage to property. After the devastation, hotel bookings in the island were dropped, people have lost their jobs and some small-scale tourism businesses have got the hardest time as well. Some lifestyle entrepreneurs felt hopeless and have given up on doing business, which resulted to their businesses had to be closed because they were unable to access financial resources and did not have budget to restart their businesses again. Some might take longer time to rehabilitate their firms due to various limitations and conditions. While some have to fight back and develop their firms by turning crisis into opportunity and taking advantage of the crisis. This research is made in order to study and examine the impacts of and the recovery to the 2004 December tsunami disaster in Phuket, especially to small tourism businesses in Karon beach, which will be described through a disaster management model. The goal of this research is to study how the tsunami has affected on small firms and how they performed in order to rehabilitate their businesses, and even how they have been working and cooperating with the local government to draw back tourists to the destination.

In the process of electricity generation, water is used as the working fluid to transport energy from the fuel to the turbine. This water has to be ultrapure in order to reduce maintenance cost on the boilers. For the production of ultrapure water, a desalination process is used. This process consists of an ultrafiltration pretreatment section, two reverse osmosis stages and a continuous electrodeionisation stage. Reverse osmosis desalination plants are, however, inherently inefficient with a high specific energy consumption. In an attempt to improve the efficiency of low recovery seawater applications, energy recovery devices are installed on the brine outlet of the reverse osmosis stages. The energy recovery device recovers the energy that is released through the high pressure brine stream and reintroduces it to the system. The investigated desalination process has a fresh water feed with a salinity of 71 ppm and is operated at recoveries above 85%. The plant produces demineralised water at a salinity lower than 0.001ppm for the purpose of high pressure boiler feed. A thermodynamic analysis determined the Second Law efficiencies for the first and second reverse osmosis sections as 3.85% and 3.68% respectively. The specific energy consumption for the reverse osmosis plants is 353 Wh/m3 and 1.31 Wh/m3. This was used as the baseline for the investigation. An exergy analysis determined that energy is lost through the brine throttling process and that a pressure exchanging system can be installed on all reverse osmosis brine streams. Energy recovery devices are untested in high recovery fresh water applications due to the low brine pressure and low brine flow. It was determined that pressure exchanging systems can reduce the specific energy consumption of the first reverse osmosis stage with 12.2% whereas the second RO stage energy consumption can be improved with 7.7%. The Second Law efficiency can be improved by 25.6% for the first reverse osmosis stage while the efficiency is improved with 18.1% for the second stage. The research study focused on assessing implementation of the turnaround management strategies in a water board. The location of the study was a water board located in the economic heart of South Africa, Rand Water. The objectives of the study were; (a) to evaluate the turnaround plans implemented in the water sector, (b) to uncover success factors attained when undertaking turnaround plans, (c) to assess selected case studies dealing with the turnaround management strategies in selected industries, and lastly (e) to derive an understanding on determinants and factors that cut across the turnaround plans. The research approach that premised the study was quantitative methodology, which involved distribution of questionnaires as part of field work in the water board. The questionnaires were analysed through statistical approach, and further linked back to the problem statement posed to the research study. Some assumptions were utilized for conducting the research project, including the statistically acceptable sample. The area of focus in the water board was Strategic Asset Management Division which was selected because of its huge impact in the planning and execution of the capital projects. Infrastructure or capital projects form the core of the business sustainability; they ensure the future of the water as well as the region of the country. Various literatures were reviewed pertaining to the turnaround management strategies and certain inferences were made. The results provide interesting relationships between variables that can be explored further. There were certain biases that were obtained, and in certain cases there was no relationships between variables and in most cases there were positive relationships. The turnaround management strategies are extensively carried out across the industries. It can be concluded from the research study that there are certain phenomenona that can be derived from the turnaround plans. It can also be deduced that certain factors or determinants demonstrate a better behaviour than others when tested in the turnaround management environment. Models can be developed utilizing regression tools pertaining to the turnaround plans and adaptation of these models based on conditions or certain unique aspects is recommended to be done. / MBA, North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014
