Jak se dělá paměť ve veřejnoprávním rozhlase / Creating Memory in Public Broadcasting

Novotná, Petra January 2016 (has links)
In my diploma thesis I describe the process, in which some episodes of the radio program Příběhy 20. století are made and with this example I explain, which factors can influence remembering in a medium of the public sphere and how "lieux de mémoire" occur in its broadcasting. I examine the recording of some of the narratives that can possibly be presented in the radio program, how the interviewers handle the interviewees and what motivation do they have to work in a project like this. I focus on how the stories are picked for the radio program, how are they edited, who takes part in the editing and how is it possible that they are in charge of it. My diploma thesis also includes a detailed description of the social position of Post Bellum organisation and its fundamental project Paměť národa, which are both closely connected to radio program Příběhy 20. století. In the conclusion of my thesis I deal with the fact, that this social position is one of the main elements in the process of memory making in public sphere medium, because it has an indirect impact on it. In my thesis I try to answer, what influence can the examined radio program (as part of institutionalized remembering and media communication) have on social memory.

Towards selfhood : memory, subjectivity and the Trans-Siberian railway journey

Kuoraite, Dalia January 2016 (has links)
This thesis is an autoethnography based on a two week Trans-Siberian railway journey from Moscow to Vladivostok in October 2011. It explores the role of memory in our spatial surroundings, the effect remembering has on the way we move through and interpret the present and ourselves. In the chapters about community, rhythms, memory/imagination, and landscape the journey becomes a backbone for the personal narratives and the stories of others, which intertwining unveil the complex relationship between the self and the world, the present and the absent, and the imagined. Thesis explores the inevitable mobility of the mind, which sees us losing the ability to stay fastened to physical spaces, images and our own being, and opening the possibility to travel in time, space and memory. The physical landscape, landscape of Siberia gradually becomes almost invisible, disappears and re-emerges as a series of personal images and stories, feelings and dreams, suggesting that even moving through the vastest landscapes in the world we are always travelling inward, towards an understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

So, it is necessary to implement cognitive stimulation s procedures in order to minimize or to stabilize such losses. Studies based on Behavior Analysis, particularly in equivalence relations have shown the possibility of forming new relational networks by the elderly and that relational network could help to restore repertoires that are being affected by aging, such as remembering of names of people or objects. The present research had four studies, three of them with the objective to verify if conditional relations teaching, to the participants, could help them remembering names of people or objects and the fourth study with the objective to verify if conditional discriminations teaching biographical data could form equivalence relations. The participants were four old women diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Before submitting them to the experimental procedures, the initial repertoire was evaluated. In the Studies 1, 2 and 3, the conditional relations were trained with sound (word dictated), image (representative of the word) and text (written word); these stimuli were presented or in simultaneous pairing or also with successive pairing (0 and 5 seconds). In the Study 4 only visual stimuli were used with simultaneous pairing. The emergence of new relations was tested, and the final repertoire was evaluated. The results of the first three studies showed improvement in remembering names behavior, but it was observed significant variation, among the participants, in the emergence of new relations. In the Study 4 was observed the emergence of equivalence relations. Some possible variables that may have interfered in the participants performance were pointed out, and suggestions for future studies were presented / Considerando-se que idosos enfrentam perdas cognitivas, sendo a mais frequente a perda de memória, torna-se necessário desenvolver atividades de estimulação cognitiva para minimizar ou estabilizar tais perdas.

Sectarian Conflict And Inability To Construct A National Identity In Northern Ireland In Christina Reid

Yazan, Bedrettin 01 August 2008 (has links) (PDF)
Based on Christina Reid&rsquo / s five Plays &ldquo / Tea in a China Cup,&rdquo / &ldquo / Did You Hear the One About the Irishman &hellip / ?,&rdquo / &ldquo / Joyriders,&rdquo / &ldquo / The Belle of the Belfast City,&rdquo / and &ldquo / My Name, Shall I Tell You My Name?&rdquo / the aim of this study is to put under discussion the idea that the sectarian conflict between the two ethno-religious communities in Northern Ireland is maintained deliberately and a national identity unique to the people in this country cannot be constructed at least in the near future. The Protestants in Northern Ireland cannot choose Irishness as a national identity because the Irishness has been monopolized by the Catholics, and cannot adopt the Britishness as a national identity because of the varieties in the social factors they have. Likewise, the Catholics in Northern Ireland do not call themselves British because their Catholicism involves an Irish identity with the rejection of the British rule, and they cannot truly entitle themselves Irish due to the differences in social conditions. However, both factions try to adhere themselves to a national identity through their communal ideology. The Protestants claim that they are part of Britain, while the Catholics claim that they are members of Irish Nation. This situation has led to reluctance in both communities to stop the conflictual circumstances which encourage both groups to tether to their traditions more intensely, to contribute to the otherization process reinforcing their social identity and lead them to impose their working ideology on their new members whose divergence from traditions will definitely pose a threat to their identity. Also, in this country the forgetting / remembering process, which is actually exploited to forge a national identity, is orchestrated by the two communities to enlarge the intercommunal chasm through the narration of the old stories and memories, creation of stories, commemoration activities and museumizing certain objects. Throughout the study the key points which will be highlighted are as follows: nation, national identity and nation building process, the sectarian conflict between the two communities in Northern Ireland, maintenance of conflictual situation and the employment of the forgetting / remembering process in Northern Ireland.

Vzpomínání na tzv. normalizaci v popkultuře a způsoby jeho didaktického využití / Remembering the Czechoslovak Normalization in the Popular Culture and the Ways of Its Use in Didactics

Pinkas, Jaroslav January 2016 (has links)
This work focuses on the social practice of recollection, the so-called standardization in public sphere and possibilities to grasp this subject in history teaching. The aim is to describe this practice and at the same time, to define effective methods of its thematization in school environment. In the first part, I am concerned with the concepts of memory from Maurice Halbwachs to Alison Landsberg and I emphasize my preference for the concept of media memory as the basis for my further researches. Furthermore, I analyse models of historical education in Anglo-American environment on the one hand and German environment on the other hand. I analyse the strong and weak points of these models based on the concept of "historical thinking" and "historical consciousness". In the second part, I analyse the resemblance of memoir characters to the so-called standardization in movie presentations and their perception by users of the movie site www.csfd.cz. The objective of this analysis was to point out to the fact how we communicate about movies and which values are associated with watching movies. I linked the analysis of movie images and their perception to the idea of dominant cultural formations of the Czech society in Michael Kennedy's mind. I have analysed four movies, which, in my opinion, represent...

Retratos de Goiás: memórias de ex-militantes estudantis goianos sobre a década de 1960

Vicente, Keides Batista 26 October 2006 (has links)
In the early 1990s, the student movement in the State of Goiás was retaken with the publishing of former movement leaders memories, focusing on the period of action (the 1960s), and of political agents in the present of remembering (the 1990s). Firstly, interviews made by researchers from the Universidade Federal de Goiás History Department under the guidance of on of its professors (he himself a student militant in the 1980s) brought to light the rebuilt memories of former student militants who acted in the city of Goiânia. Secondly, two former student militants published a book with interviews with former militants to paid homage to their brother that disappeared during the military government. The accounts reveal a re-evaluation of these former student militants past according to the interest in rebuilding their own image of the militancy and of the political responsibility regarding the students action. The setting of remembering includes political discussions in the national sphere dealing with the student reorganization in the so-called movement Caras pintadas ( painted faces ) contrary to the Brazilian president at the time Fernando Collor and the transmission by Rede Globo of the soap opera Anos rebeldes, on the youth action during the military government in Brazil. Besides, the end of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (URSS) and the fall of Berlin Wall, in 1989, gave directions to the search of a student and political identity, menaced by new images of the student movement and the Socialist propositions discredit, which stimulated social movements during the military regime. In this regard, the images revealed by the former militants memories focus on the students action demonstrations and decision making and the attribution of meaning to the condition of being a student militant heroes and society representatives, justified by the student consciousness in the 1960s.

Yugoslavia Revisited : Contested Histories through Public Memories of President Tito

Cicic, Ana January 2020 (has links)
In the thesis, I aim to analyze how people remember their past in changed political circumstances, what and who affect that memory, and why and how does rapture between social memory and historical narratives come about. My subject of inquiry is the personality of Josip Broz Tito and above that the period of socialism and the years of his reign. Studying these my intention is not in writing his biography, rather I use him as an object through which I can get a closer look at the production of a new social memory. I analyze my ethnographic data by using the theory of collective memory and politics of memory theory. Those two main analytical tools are combined with more concepts and hypotheses. The inquiry is done on multisited places, by doing multi-local ethnography namely in Croatia and Serbia. I argue that the mnemonic communities like nations, social groups or power elites influence how people perceive their past and consequently remember historical facts. In times of unstable political circumstances like the change of communist order into capitalistic one, people tend to make sense of their complex past by producing different narratives which are often contested.
