Evaluating the consistency of verbal reports and the use of cognitive models in educational measurement

Wang, Xian 06 1900 (has links)
In the field of psychology, verbal reports are commonly used as a data source to explain human information processing. To date, few studies have investigated the accuracy of verbal reports for providing information on students’ reasoning and problem solving on educational tasks. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the consistency of verbal data, as well as the effects of student achievement, interviewer knowledge level, and item difficulty on the consistency of verbal reports. Seventy-one Grade 12 students from two high schools provided verbal responses to 15 multiple choice test items from the Alberta Pure Mathematics Diploma Examination. Results indicate higher-achieving students demonstrate greater consistencies in verbal reports than moderate achieving students. The implications of the results are discussed and the limitations of the present study are also presented. / Measurement, Evaluation and Cognition

Ncemane, Zuko January 2014 (has links)
Purpose – The purpose of this case study research was to develop a theoretical model of integrated reporting for Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) listed companies. Design/Methodology/Approach – The goal of this case study research was to understand how and why integrated reports are prepared, to develop a theoretical model of integrated reporting for JSE listed companies through literature review and analysis of published integrated reports. In addition, to investigate the perceived success of integrated reporting by examining its requirements, objectives, enforceability and implications to the listed companies. Based on the above, to determine how companies fulfil the requirements of integrated reporting and what those requirements are. To determine by comparing published integrated reports of companies, similarities or comparability of the information published on integrated reports ascertaining the measurability of the success of the application of integrated reporting. Practical implications – This case study research provides a useful insight into drivers of integrated reporting. Limitations to the study – The lack of responses from industry experts contacted for interviews considered a limitation in validating the outcome of the study. Originality/Value – This case study research looks at the current adoption and application of integrated reporting by JSE listed companies.

Practices in reporting to parents

Unknown Date (has links)
Recording the progress of children and reporting to parents is one of the important responsibilities of the elementary school today. Reporting is a request by parents to know about the progress or lack of progress of children, but there has not been found any type of law stating that the school must give parents any type of report. It is assumed that each school will engage in this activity. / Typescript. / "August, 1953." / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science." / Advisor: Mildred E. Swearingen, Professor Directing Paper. / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 46-48).

Client Writing in Individual Therapy: A Review of the Literature

Bennion, Karla Esplin 01 May 1986 (has links)
Client writing has been used in association with individual therapy for many years, but published research on its effectiveness is sparse. Such research could provide a potential tool for therapists, as well as expand scientific knowledge. This review includes all available reports on the topic of client writing in individual therapy. The studies fall into three general categories: the systematic, "experimental" studies; the anecdotal reports; and the didactic reports. All studies considered show some benefit from the use of client writing in therapy. Writing appears to be beneficial whether initiated by the client or directed by the therapist; beneficial to adolescents and adults of all ages; beneficial to hospitalized patients, clients in individual therapy, and to students in school counseling; beneficial with different forms of writing; beneficial with different types of therapy; and beneficial whether writing is the main focus of therapy or only an adjunctive process. However, the conclusion that client writing is beneficial is largely based on anecdotal reports from therapists who have accidentally stumbled on it. Much more systematic research is needed, beginning with a survey to determine how extensive is its use. Specific recommendations for research are made.
