Design proposal of a double base for child restraint system for two children

Martin Villaescusa, Laura, Benavides Montes, Maria del Mar January 2015 (has links)
In this project the design of a double base for two child restraint seats (CRS) has been developed. The objective of this project is to facilitate the transportation of two children in the rear seats of a car, maximizing the space available in the rear of the car and providing a comfortable movement to the user when placing the CRS baskets into the car. Scientific articles have been analysed providing a reference of the strength limitations and ergonomics aspects of the users as well as misuse of current CRS. Also, ergonomics and safety issues have been studied through these articles in order to fulfil with the current regulations established by the EU standards and the regulation 44 of Economic Commission for Europe. A market research and survey investigations have been done in order to study the features of existing CRS designs, opinion and needs of habitual users. The employed methodology based on a divergent and convergent design process has been carried out through different methods such as Brainstorming, 6-3-5 Method and Dark Horse Prototype in which many ideas, concepts and proposals have been developed and explained. The results of this project are shown and explained through a virtual 3D CAD model with their respective renders, explanations and technical drawings. The use and material selection of the final design are presented as well as the results of an ergonomic study performed by test with a simple physical prototype of the final design. The main outcomes of this project are included in conclusion, discussions and future work sections.

Att skada eller skydda? : En kvalitativ studie om dilemmat med begränsningsåtgärder inom äldreomsorgen

Tåli, Elinor January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this study is to examine how assisting nurses reflects and talks about physical restraint in dementia care in Sweden. This study is based on three focus group interviews with a total of 13 people working in the eldercare in Sweden. The theoretical framework is a conflict, created by Rosmari Eliasson, between seeing the older persons as a subject and an object and that the conflict doesn’t have a solution. My results show that there is a difficult area to work in which attempts to protect persons with impaired decision-making capacity from harming themselves or be harmed in any other way and at the same time respect the individual and his autonomy. There is a thin line between on one had to harm someone and on the other hand to protect the elderly person. The staff that are working with the elderly people feel forced to use physical restraint as a way of harm reduction, but at the same time they are violating the elderly people’s autonomy. In many cases the physical restraint is justified as a protective measure and the staff doesn’t see the physical restraint as a way of restrict and constrain the elder person.

The Obama doctrine - a multipolar foreign policy.

Khan, Ismail January 2013 (has links)
This paper will clarify the debate surrounding contemporary American foreign policy, and it seeks to bring awareness to the vast field surrounding the topic. This essay is a case study, and it focuses mainly on the Obama doctrine, it does also shed light to the former foreign policy of the Bush administration. The research questions seek to investigate what theory of polarity characterises the Obama doctrine. It does also investigate how the United States foreign policy has changed under the Obama administration, by applying the methodology of a text analysis, the three theories of polarity: “Balance of power, hegemonic theory, and multipolarity” are in turn applied on three challenging areas for contemporary American foreign policy. The results show that the foreign policy led by the Obama administration, is heavily influenced by the theory of multipolarity. /
Jag har inte publicerat min uppsats, blev klar med den juni 2013.

Tack

The aetiology and mechanisms of serious injury in restrained child occupants

Brown, Julie, Prince of Wales Hospital Clinical School, UNSW January 2008 (has links)
The primary intervention for injury in children traveling in cars in Australia has involved the mandatory use of a restraint while traveling in a vehicle. This intervention has been successful as evidenced by high restraint usage rates by Australian children and substantial casualty reductions since the 1970’s. However casualty rates have been relatively stagnant over the last couple of decades. Currently more than 3,000 child occupants are seriously injured in Australia every year. There is a need to examine the scope for further preventing injury among restrained child occupants. This thesis presents four interrelated studies examining the factors and mechanisms involved when Australian children are seriously injured while using some form of restraint in a crash. Methods used include retrospective medical record review, in-depth crash investigation and analysis of mass in-depth crash data. Both descriptive and nonparametric statistical analysis techniques, including those that allow for the control of potential confounders, were used. Observations and results indicate there is substantial scope for further reducing serious injury in children traveling in cars in Australia. To realize this reduction there is a need to address the quality of restraint use by children through the development of strategies that not only encourage restraint use, but encourage the correct use of the most appropriate forms of restraint. There is also a need to address the protection provided by restraint systems and vehicles to child occupants in high severity crashes, and in crashes that involve impacts with fixed roadside objects such as trees and poles.
