Gävle municipality has changed from the local height system GS 55 to the national RH 2000 in the mid-2000s in collaboration with the National Land Survey of Sweden, Lantmäteriet. The municipality wanted control measurements of the heights of some benchmarks in the new height system to see if there has been a change since the new height system was introduced. If a change has occurred, it may probably be due to various factors, of which the most likely ones are ground movements or drawbacks in the network adjustment. The aim of this study is to do control measurements of these benchmarks and investigate if their heights differ from the municipality´s RH 2000 heights. Two areas have been monitored with a level in spring of 2011, one of which was the area around Alderholmen / Gävle beach covering about 6 km and 13 points, and the second area was a stretch of the east-west direction at the intersection of motorways 80 and E4, covering about 2 km and five points. The results indicate a subsidence of the ground over the whole area of Alderholmen, which varies between 4 and 12 mm in comparison to the municipality RH 2000 heights. This is different from the area of motorways 80 and E4, where no statistically significant height differences have been revealed. A likely reason for the height differences in Alderholmen is the composition of the soil in the area. This area consists mostly of aggregates and this can probably affect the stability of the benchmarks. The Swedish National Land Survey also had to repeat the measurements in this area during the transition to the new height system, which can be seen as an indication that this area is not quite stable.

High resolution physical and comparative maps of horse chromosomes 14 (ECA14) and 21 (ECA21)Goh, Glenda Lay Bee 16 August 2006 (has links)
In order to identify genes or markers responsible for economically important traits in the
horse, the development of high resolution gene maps of individual equine chromosomes
is essential. We herein report the construction of high resolution physically ordered
radiation hybrid (RH) and comparative maps for horse chromosomes 14 and 21 (ECA14
and ECA21). These chromosomes predominantly share correspondence with human
chromosome 5 (HSA5), though a small region on the proximal part of ECA21
corresponds to a ~5Mb region from the short arm of HSA19. The map for ECA14
consists of 128 markers (83 Type I and 45 Type II) and spans a total of
1828cR.Compared to this, the map of ECA21 is made up of 90 markers (64 Type I and
26 Type II), that segregate into two linkage groups spanning 278 and 760cR each. A
total of 218 markers provide on average one marker every 0.9Mb along the length of the
two equine chromosomes. This represents a 5-fold improvement over the previous maps.
Of greater significance is the ~8-fold increase in the density of Type I loci that provide a
comprehensive and finely aligned map for the two chromosomes in relation to
homologues in a range of evolutionarily distantly related species, viz., human,
chimpanzee, mouse, rat, dog, cattle, pig, cat and chicken. The orientation and alignment of the linkage groups was strengthened by 28 new FISH localizations, of which 27 are
gene-specific (22 from HSA5 and 5 from HSA19). Comparative analysis between the
horse and human reveals that the order of genes on HSA5 is remarkably well conserved
in the horse, with an evolutionary break/fusion point that could be correlated to a ~2Mb
region between 68.5 Â 70.9Mb positions on HSA5. Among the species analyzed to date,
the HSA5 and 19p neighboring segment combination is unique to Perissodactyls and
Cetartiodactyls, but, in the Perissodactyls, the portion of HSA5 that corresponds to this
combination is HSA5p  q13, while in the Cetartiodactyls, it is HSA5q13  qter. This
leads us to postulate that this neighboring segment combination arose as separate events
during the divergence of Perissodactyls and Cetartiodactyls from a common ancestor.

A preliminary investigation into the chemical nature of the Rh antigensEverhart, Donald Lee January 1961 (has links)
Thesis (Ph.D.)--Boston University. / The inhibition technique was used in an attempt to determine the chemical structure of Rh antigens. A saline agglutinating Rh antibody was mixed with a chemical compound of known structure, containing carbohydrate, and believed to be similar in configuration to the Rh antigen in question. This mixture was first incubated, then the appropriate erythrocytes were added. Following a second incubation, the degree of agglutination was read in the usual manner for Rh testing. A saline control was carried out for each experiment. If the unknown showed less agglutination than the control, then the chemical compound was said to have an inhibitory effect. In all these experiments the inhibitor was diluted and not the antibody.
The three Rh antibodies, anti-C, anti-D, and anti-E, were tested with the same carbohydrates, D- and L-glucose, D- and L-mannose, D-ribose, and L-lyxose. The antibodies were also tested with antibiotics which included streptomycin, stylomycin, carbomycin, and two degradation products of the first two, streptobiosamine and 6-dimethyl-amino-9-(3'amino-31deoxy-beta-D-ribofuranosyl)-purine. Some of the above carbohydrates and streptobiosamine were coupled with aniline and p-aminophenol, and then tested as inhibitors. 5'adenylic acid and 2', 3'adenylic acid were also tested as inhibitors. Their reactions suggested the use of indol acetic acid and indol butyric acid. Two amino acids, tyrosine and phenylalanine, were tested. In addition, paminophenyl acetic acid and salicin were also used as inhibitors. [TRUNCATED]

A study of the possibility to connect local levelling networks to the Swedish height system RH 2000 using GNSSLiu, Ke January 2011 (has links)
In this study, the connection of a local levelling network to the national height system in Sweden, RH 2000, with GNSS-techniques is investigated. The SWEN 08 is applied as geoid model. Essentially, the method is precise normal height determination with GNSS. The accuracy, repeatability and the affecting elements are tested. According to the statistics, the proposed method achieves 1-cm accuracy level. Suggestions on the general methodology and settings of several elements are proposed based on the statistics for the future application.
