"Sie sind Aristokratin?" Urozené ženy ve 20. století na příkladě rodu Sternbergů / "Sie sind Aristokratin?" Noble women in 20th century on example of Sternberg family

NEMRAVOVÁ, Lenka January 2014 (has links)
The Diploma thesis aims at lives of the aristocratic women in the 20th century. The focus is placed on their perception of the political events of the period and changes of their role both within family and society. This issue is analyzed with help of the example of three female aristocrats who married into the old Czech family of the Sternbergs, more specifically, three ladies belonging to three different generations Karolína Sternberg, b. Thurn-Valsassina-Como-Vercelli (1863-1944), Kunhuta Sternberg, b. Mensdorff-Pouilly (1899-1989), and Alžběta Sternberg, b. Hrubá z Gelenj (*1929). The description of their lifetimes follows after the more theoretical part dealing in general with the position of women in the 20th century as well as with a brief history of the Sternberg family. The environment in which the ladies grew up is taken into account, too. Apart from the private written documents, the thesis is also based on some interviews with several living members of the family. The concluding part comprises a comparison of the ladies´ lives towards each other and towards the non-aristocratic society.

Aschenputtel und ihre Schwestern : Frauenfiguren im Marchen : eine Kontrastierung des Grimmschen Aschenputtel von 1857 mit Aschenputtelerzählungen des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts

Wittmann, Gerda-Elisabeth 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA (Modern Foreign Languages))--Stellenbosch University, 2008. / It has been widely assumed that the portrayal of women in fairytales subscribes to somewhat outdated and stereotypical modes of representation. Upon closer inspection however, it can be seen that this is a fallacious assumption and that the female roles in these stories are much more multidimensional in nature. One of the most popular fairytales from the Grimm Brothers is Cinderella. The portrayal of women in this story is typical of the weak, subjected woman who needs to be rescued by the prince from her unfavourable and subjugated position. The research presented here aims to show that the Grimm’s specific depiction of Cinderella in the 19th century provides an alternative to the modern myth. Here, she reacts strongly and independently to find the most advantageous resolution to her problematic subject position. To this end the Grimms’ version will be compared to text and filmic versions from the 20th and 21st centuries. By comparing aspects of female representation in the Cinderella-themed portrayals, one can evaluate the extent to which societal expectations have altered over time as well as investigating the modern-day implications of this.

Darstellung de Frau Bei Joseph Roth

Santos, Isabel Cristina Chaves Seaia Russo Dos 11 1900 (has links)
The endeavor of this thesis is to throw light on the portrayal of women by the Austrian-Jewish writer Joseph Roth. Roth’s women are regarded as highly negative and thus the author has increasingly been judged a male chauvinist and misogynist. This opinion seems particularly questionable since hardly any studies on his fictitious women have ever been conducted. The present study aims at filling that void and thereby presenting Roth’s views in a more differentiated manner. A new approach to Roth is thus called for. The analysis draws from the socio-historic background in which Roth’s work is situated. In his journalism as in his fiction, Roth strived to demonstrate and deal with the challenges of the times he lived in. His work frequently revolves around the “damaged” post-war generation in the 1920s and 30s, the feeling of being literally and metaphorically homeless. His later works are mostly set in the past, although this should not be viewed as escapism but as an attempt to come to terms with present reality. The worlds he portrays are dominated by men who are neither whole nor strong. But although women are few and it is said they are depicted only in crude stereotypes, the study shows that Roth does address their problems and plights. By observing women within established types, modern and traditional, it is revealed that Roth indeed shows depth when characterizing women, and that his interest in them is to use them as examples to illustrate fundamental aspects of the human condition. Rather than portraying them subservient to man, Roth demonstrates their common humanity. His understanding for the condition of women in his times often becomes apparent only when the narrative perspective is isolated from the protagonists. Simultaneously his work presents a valuable literary contribution for Gender Studies. / Classics & Modern European Languages / (D. Litt. et Phil.) (German)

Komparace vybraných tematických okruhů publikovaných v časopise Vlasta v obdobích 1973 - 1978 a 2013 - 2018 / The comparison of selected topics in Vlasta Magazine between periods 1973 - 1978 and 2013 - 2018

Mašková, Martina January 2019 (has links)
Thesis "The comparison of selected topics in Vlasta Magazine between periods 1973- 1978 and 2013-2018" informs readers about thematic categories in Vlasta Magazine of the 1970s and the 21st century. The main goal was to compare topics of these two periods and decide how they have changed during forty years. This work introduces media theories, reminds of the most important Czech and Czechoslovakian historic events, the third chapter discusses woman's roles, especially her work and social roles. The next chapter is about media owners and about Vlasta Magazine. The practical part of this work is dedicated to quantitative and qualitative differences among thematic categories in Vlasta Magazine between periods 1973-1978 and 2013-2018. Research shows that texts of both periods have their typical features. Authors write about politics and criticize social imperfections. A woman is shown like an unselfish mother and a hard worker. Nowadays, journalists speak neither about policy nor foregone regime. An appeal to women is not coherent - they should be beautiful and slim, but on the other hand "real women have curves" and "a real lady does not care about wrinkles". Today's women do care about relationships with men and about shopping. In addition, consumerism is evident because of increased number of...
