Marçal, Josiane Aparecida 04 May 2017 (has links)
This work is the result of a research whose main purpose is to present the discovery of the genesis of the 1st Grade Rotary State School between 1956 to 1971, taking into account the relationships established between the public and the private in this educational institution. Its specific objectives are to answer some questions related to the implementation of this school in the municipality of Ituiutaba that in the selected years was considered "Rice Capital", because it standed out in economic strength for its intensive production of this grain. Therefore, our purpose also was to understand and analyze the governmental educational guidelines present in the period in question; to analyze documents, newspapers and iconographic clippings related to the emergence of the Rotary School in the years 1956 to 1971; to understand and characterize the historical agents in this process and what mechanisms were made for their stay in school, as well as discuss how the time and space for their operation was organized; to discover the relevance of the school's implementation and its contribution to the population of the municipality; to identify how educational thinking circulated during the era in the categories disseminated through the International Rotary Club Institution; and to understand how the correlation/connection between the international organization and the Rotary School has taken place. The methodological procedure for the research was defined in five distinct phases: a visit to the 1st Grade Rotary State School for the collection of official documents and school iconography in the school archives; visit to the Cultural Foundation of Ituiutaba to read newspapers for the proposed period and to the Ituiutaba Town Hall to read the minutes of the City Council; visit to the Rotary Club of Ituiutaba to read the minutes of the period in question, Rotary journals and magazines; consultation with the IBGE to understand the official statistical data regarding the municipality and the State Public Archive; and survey of bibliographic references, presidential messages, Pedagogical Magazines and of teaching. The results showed that the public and private relations present in the genesis of the school prove that they do not always appear in the Brazilian history of education in the form of conflicts, but also of exchange and conviviality. This possibly evidenced the omission of the Brazilian State towards public education. Thus, we conclude that this research provided the disclosure regarding the situation of the public school instituted in the municipality of Ituiutaba in the selected historical period, especially regarding the genesis of the Rotary School. Having completed this work has expanded the corpus of knowledge about school institutions even more, by making a transnational movement that discussed the condition of the institutionalization of the public school, not only at the local, but also in regional and national level. In this transnational movement we also understand the connection between the Rotary Club of Ituiutaba and the International Rotary Club, thus reflecting its dynamics and the ideology implicit in the Rotary principles reflected in the Rotary School and in the Ituiutaban society by some categories. / Dissertação (Mestrado)

"Service above self" : En kvalitativ studie om ideella organisationers förändrade kommunikationsvillkor.

Göransson, Ellen, Thimgren, Matilda January 2016 (has links)

The integration of sensory control for sugar cane harvesters

McCarthy, Stuart George January 2003 (has links)
The research concerns the design and implementation of mechatronic systems to assist in the operation and control of a sugar cane harvester. Two functions were chosen for attention, the primary separation system, and the ‘topper’ that discards the leafy crown. Although these operations are given low priority by the operator of the harvester, their optimisation is of particular significance to the industry. Optimum separation requires a fine balance between discarding ‘trash’ that would contaminate the quality of the cane billets and losing good sugar-bearing material through over cleaning. Poor control of the topper can create extra load for the separation system and cause it to operate at a low efficiency with high loss. Alternatively it can cause a length of sugar-bearing cane stalk to be lost before it even enters the harvester system at all. A variety of mechatronic techniques were explored, that addressed the problem of providing useful data directly from the harvester functions and the electronic instrumentation to allow the data to be collected in a useful form in real-time. Computer control issues were also investigated, to make best use of the data stream. Novel acoustic transducers were introduced to the sensory separation system to provide a signal that indicated material striking the fan blades. A rotary transformer was required to allow transmission of the signal, and a signal interface system was implemented to record the returned data. Many real-time time-series analyses were conducted, and from these a suitable algorithm to extract an impact signal was developed. This system was assessed under harvesting conditions with results that confirmed its ability to quantify the amount of cane lost from the harvest. An investigation was conducted to detect the optimum topping height on a sugar cane stalk. The techniques considered both the internal and external attributes of the stalk, and a method was selected to measure the sugar concentration with a chemical sensor. An important design parameter was that the sensor must operate on the harvester in real time. The novel refractometer worked well in laboratory conditions, yielding repeatable and accurate results. The field environment complicated the application of this system, however this was partly overcome with introduction of a custom sample-crushing mechanism. This device provided the necessary juice sample from a selection of the topped cane stalks. The complete sampling and measuring mechanism operated well on cane stalks, and returned encouraging results. Both sets of data returned useful information regarding the operation of the particular harvester operations. The control of either the separation system or the topper requires careful balancing, and novel control techniques that consider the ergonomics for the operator are discussed. These include visual indication devices through to automatic control algorithms. With the integration of mechatronic techniques into the functioning of the sugar cane harvester, the overall efficiency of many of its functions may be improved, and the operator’s task may be greatly simplified. The ultimate objective is to maximise the yield with an improved level of harvested and separated cane.

Granular Attrition due to Rotary Valve in a Pneumatic Conveying System

Yao, Jun, Wang, Chi-Hwa, Lim, Wee Chuan 01 1900 (has links)
The rotary valve is a widely used mechanical device in many solids-handling industrial processes. However, it may also be responsible for most of the attrition effects occurring in a typical process. In this study, the attrition effects occurring in a rotary valve operating as a stand-alone device and as part of a pneumatic conveying system were investigated. In the former case granular attrition was carried out at three different rotary valve speeds and the experimental results obtained were found to be in good agreement with the Gwyn correlation. In the latter case three typical air flow rates were used in the pneumatic conveying system. The size distribution of the attrition product obtained at the lowest air flow rate used was not adequately described by the Gwyn correlation. The attrition process and mechanisms involved were analysed and the minimum size of the attrition product obtained from both modes of operations was found to be similar. / Singapore-MIT Alliance (SMA)

DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF A NOVEL TOROIDAL PNEUMATIC MOTOR

Murphy, Braden A. 04 December 2012 (has links)
A novel toroidal pneumatic motor (rotary actuator or rotary engine) has been developed and tested. The motor is designed with a ring torus (or revolved circular cross-section) working chamber, which is formed by two rotors and sections of a casing (or stator). The rotors are designed with an equal number of pistons, an arrangement of one-way bearings (to transfer torque from the rotors to a common drive shaft), and an impact mechanism to operably control the positioning of the rotors relative to ports located within the stationary casing. This design is aimed at improving the power density (power per unit mass), efficiency and torque output at low shaft speeds, when compared to conventional vane motors. Dynamometer test results are presented, showing the torque output of the motor with compressed air supply pressures of 10 to 80 psi at 10 psi increments.
