Malaysian Natural Rubber Industry: An Econometric Analysis on the Elasticity of Supply and Demand Approaches

Mohd Ismail, Harun Mizam bin 12 1900 (has links)
The popularity of natural rubber as an important raw material was distorted in the post-World War Two period. It received heavy competition from synthetic rubber. The main purpose of this paper is to determine and to study supply elasticity and demand elasticity of natural rubber in the case of Malaysia. The main aim of analyzing the period since 1971 is that both price and quality competitiveness of Malaysian natural rubber have drastically improved. Therefore, in order for Malaysia to maintain her position as the leading producer and exporter of natural rubber in the world, supportive policies and incentives from the government would further enhance the prospects for improvements in this industry.

Konstrukční návrh manipulačního zařízení ve výrobě pneumatik / Design of Tyre Production Line Manipulation Equipment

Solař, Adam January 2019 (has links)
The subject of this diploma thesis is to design a new construction of the machinery, which is used for manipulation with tire carts in rubber industry. The reason for the new design is to eliminate the main shortcomings of the existing provision. The aim of this project was to elaborate an overview of the current designs of the handling equipment in question and to subsequently construct a new suitable design solution. In addition, several conceptual calculations were needed to be used in the selection of the appropriate electric motor, transmission, pneumatic cylinders and wiring. The relevant parts were designed using structural FEM analyses. The several variants of the solutions were considered for a suitable construction design. Based on these FEM simulations, the relevant parts have been modified in terms of geometry so that the resulting manipulating machinery meets all the criteria, especially regarding safety.

Tempo, trabalho e conflito social no complexo coureiro-calçadista de Franca-SP (1950-1980) / Time, work and social conflict in the footware industry of Franca (São Paulo, Brazil), 1950-1980

Orientador: Fernando Teixeira da Silva / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-19T17:58:27Z (GMT). Between the 1950s and the 1980s, in a national context of industrial expansion, urban growth and demographic concentration in towns, the city of Franca-SP consolidated its position as the main export center for men's leather-made shoes. Exports began in the 1970s, with American customers as the main market. The development in the sector created a complex of leather-shoe plants shaped by different kinds of producers of raw-materials and shoes components, especially tanneries and rubber goods. One of the main characteristics of this complex was the heterogeneity of size and technology employed by the plants. This industrial development turned the city into an important destination for migrants and thousands of former rural workers moved to Franca in search of jobs and better living conditions. Thus, the main goal of the thesis is the analysis of the transformation in production processes, work relations and the making of the working class during this period. The study focused on the daily experiences of male and female workers who dedicated long years of their lives to leather, shoes and the production of their components. I tried to understand the characteristics and the impact of technological transformations on the workforce and the formation of manpower dedicated to the control of other workers' job time, on working conditions and on experiences in common, essential ingredients for the making of a class identity centered on shared interests. At the end, I interpreted the social conflicts that arose in the work environment through the analysis of various strategies developed by workers to produce less than they were able, what allowed them to widen the idea of class struggle, as we understand the productive sphere as a privileged space for interpreting the many forms of working-class resistance. Through the examination of lawsuits related to labor topics initiated by workers, I verified that the Labor Courts constituted a privileged space for settling disagreements between workers and capitalists, for assuring the rights of workers frequently denied by companies and, not rarely, for imposing limits on the will of bosses and other hierarchical superiors / Doutorado / Historia Social / Doutor em História

Waste tyre management problems in South Africa and the possible opportunities that can be created through the recycling thereof

Mahlangu, Mpanyana Lucas 04 1900 (has links)
The research work critically analyzed the factors responsible for imprudent waste tyre management in South Africa. As an approach to determine the complexity of the problem, questionnaires were sent to one hundred and sixty (160) respondents in conjunction with interviews. Perusal of literature and interaction with industry involved in waste tyre processing to further gain knowledge of the problem and possible solutions that can be solicited to address the problem. Findings revealed that, lack of clear, focused legislation that guide the handling, disposal and processing of waste tyres remain the challenge. It is also deduced that recycling of waste tyres can provide economic benefits and opportunities. It is recommended that South Africa develop appropriate legislation that deals with handling, treatment and disposal of waste tyres, develop an incentive programme to set up initiatives as well as developing skilled and capacitated enforcement agency. / Environmental Sciences / M.A. (Environmental Management)
