Det blir bara en massa byskvaller. : En kvantitativ studie om mediebevakningen i Malung- Sälens kommun

Äng, Anton, Svensson, Anton January 2017 (has links)

Current and future shopping conditions in Sälen

Ahlsén Gahns, Malin, Olsson, Johan January 2011 (has links)
Going from having bought the most essential at the small shops close to home, better communications and an increasingly consumption oriented lifestyle has created a change in shopping behavior and has led to phenomenon such as shopping centres and more. These are constantly being built in Sweden: in the cities, outside the cities and more recently even in small cities -small cities as for one reason or another have access to a larger customer base which can have businesses to flourish economically. During the first decade of the 21st century, shopping centres have been established along the Swedish/Norwegian border. Since the Norwegian Krone is much stronger than the Swedish Krona Norwegians save a great deal of money on going to Sweden to shop. During the shopping trips to Sweden, it is mostly alcohol, meat, tobacco and candy that are being bought. However, other products such as clothing, technology, household appliances and more are also being purchased, all to save money on the trip. Together these cross border shoppers spent 11, 6 billion in Sweden during the year of 2010. This gives an average spending of approximately 10 900 SEK per cross border shopper on annual basis. Nordby, Töcksfors and Charlottenberg (small cities located in southwestern Sweden) are places characterized by Norwegian cross border shopping. Together, they generate billions every year and this only seems to increase. These places are relatively small in size but have prominent attributes such as proximity to the Norwegian border. Apart from these resorts and shopping centres, there are few or none similar places near the Norwegian border in the rest of Sweden. However, a place which is geographically well located and has a relatively large Norwegian and Swedish customer base is the ski resort of Sälen in west central of Sweden. Sälen is a village located near the Norwegian border, although fairly sparsely populated. The destination has annually about one million official guest nights, based on the 414 000 visitors who stay an average of about 4, 5 days.  Per visit, these tourists individually spend an average of 862 SEK on shopping at the destination. The expenditure of the mountain tourists together with the Norwegian border shoppers makes it very interesting to explore the opportunities for shopping development in terms of a shopping centre in the region of Sälen.

Etablering av turistboende i fjällmiljö

Andersson, Nicklas, Knutz, Per January 2010 (has links)
Sälen is the biggest ski resort in northern Europe and is under development to meet the tourist requirements. Skistar AB own and manage ski resorts in Sweden and Norway. Skistar AB is planning for a new Skilodge in Hundfjället housing 300 beds to enhance the area as a ski resort. The purpose of our final thesis work is to gather knowledge about how tourist housing in ski resort works. The aim is to investigate controlling factors when you exploit a tourist housing in the mountains. This will end up in a proposition of a Skilodge in the centre of Hundfjället. After meetings with Skistar AB diagrams with wanted functions and spaces have been worked out. Inventories of the area have been done at the site in the centre of Hundfjället where buildings and surroundings have been inspected.Reference projects have been studied in literature and on the Internet, but also on site in Sälen. Different types of housing have been studied to get an understanding about housing in the mountains. Laws and rules have been investigated as well as the expression “Storslagen Fjällmiljö” because these resorts lies in sensitive ecological environments and animals and environments needs to be taken under consideration. Based on these conditions and the troll theme in Hundfjället a proposition of a Skilodge has been designed. This proposition will later on be presented for Skistar AB. Tourist housing in the mountains are often located in remote locations and that influences the functions to be compared with regular apartments, houses etc. and its functions. Natural material as wood and stone are reflected in the buildings.

Re-Treat Yourself

Jalas, Veronika January 2022 (has links)
In my thesis project I wanted to learn about how architecture affects people and how we can design spaces that can make people feel less stressed. I started out by researching about environmental psychology and the senses and combined what I learned into a building that can help promote mental well being.  Stressed people have a harder time living in the present, with so much going on in their head, so a sensoric layer is incorporated, helping people become more present. Colours are used according to colour psychology, creating different moods in different spaces that affect the visitor. The building also provides several social meeting places, spaces where you can relax by yourself and focus inwards, and beautiful views that connect you to nature. My proposed building is a retreat in Sälen, A building that serves as a place for recreation, health and experience, where you are able to take a step back from your stressful life both mentally and physically. The retreat would also become a new destination to visit  all year round, helping with the tourism in Sälen in the summertime.

Young adults in rural tourism areas

Möller, Peter January 2016 (has links)
This thesis examines how tourism affects conditions for young adults in rural areas. Such a study lies at the intersection of research about tourism impacts, adult transition, and rural areas. The aim is to examine how largescale tourism affects the opportunities for young adults living in rural areas; their perception of place and the perceived opportunities and obstacles that tourism provides. The thesis utilizes a mixed method approach. A quantitative study based on micro-data on individuals identifies the patterns and magnitudes of the mechanisms by which tourism affects population change among young adults. Interview methods are used in the case study area, Sälen, to investigate these mechanisms in depth. Finally, the rural–urban dichotomy is explored in a conceptual study that asks how tourism affects the perception of a local village as either rural or urban. Young inhabitants in rural areas are rarely considered in tourism research; therefore, the main contribution of this thesis is that it illuminates how tourism affects conditions for young adults in rural areas. The thesis reveals a substantial impact on the adult transition, mainly due to easier access to the labor market and a good supply of jobs during the high season. Further, the large number of people passing through creates flows of opportunities to make friends, get a job, or just meet people. All of these factors contribute to high mobility in these places, and to the perception of them as places where things happen. The high mobility in Sälen implies that fixed migrant categories (such as stayers and leavers) are largely insufficient. The tourism environment creates a space that is always under construction and continually producing new social relations mainly perceived as opportunities. Conceptualizing this as a modern rurality is a way to move beyond the often implicit notions of urban as modern and rural as traditional.
