Die identifisering van rugbytalent by seuns in die senior sekondêre skoolfase / Eugene HareHare, Eugene January 1997 (has links)
Sport forms an integral part of our everyday living and .has a big influence on the
lives of young developing children. Participation in sport has become part of early
childhood. Therefore it is of utmost importance that talent identification must start
at a very early age. Due to a lack of scientific research in rugby, progress
according to talent identification, has developed slightly. Very few scientific
methods of identification among young rugby players could be found in literature.
The aim of this study is to identify specific rugby skills, physical, motor,
anthropometric and psychological variables that could be used to determine talent
for 16 year-old adolescence. A test· battery of 24 rugby skills, physical and motor
abilities and 14 anthropometrical tests were administered. A sport psychological
performance inventory was also conducted. The top three rugby teams in the
under sixteen league in the Northwest Province were used in the test as well as 41
non-rugby players. The results of these three teams were used as a criteria for
rugby talent among sixteen year-old boys.
In order to find the best predictors of talent, stepwise discriminant analyses (SAS
Discrim procedure) were conducted on the data to find the subset of best
"discriminators" among all predictors which indicated· variables that are able to
identify talent at this age. Results, indicated that predictions between talented and
less talented rugby players were possible and that these predictions can be useful to coaches
to determine talented and less talented rugby players at sixteen years of
age. / Thesis (MEd (Voorligting))--PU vir CHO, 1997

The appointment process of education managers and its consequences for schoolsDehaloo, Gunram 11 1900 (has links)
Dissertation / The aim of the study was to investigate the appointment process of education managers and the consequences of this for schools. A literature study was conducted on these two aspects. This was followed by a survey involving 67 educators from three geographically divergent secondary schools in Kwa-Zulu Natal, namely an urban, rural and peri-urban school. The respondents’ views indicate flaws in the current system related to: the minimum requirements for principalship, the shortlisting and interview processes and the role of bias in the selection of candidates. Respondents also believed that insufficient attention was paid to induction and mentorship programmes. The before mentioned impacted negatively on the school’s functionality regarding quality assurance, inter-personal relations, decision-making, parental involvement and learner discipline. These relate to low educator morale. The findings of the study indicate that the current system of educator promotions needs to revised so as to improve best practice in the profession.

Vad ska religionsämnet vara bra för? : En undersökning angående elevers uppfattning om religion och religionsundervisning från ett interkulturellt perspektivMatti, Sofia, Helge, Anna January 2006 (has links)

The purpose of this thesis is to investigate whether the lower secondary school teaching in religion leads to a positive understanding and openness, concerning different religions and cultures. We want to study how pupils in grade eight and nine in two lower secondary schools in a multicultural community comprehend different religions. Since we choose a pupils perspective we decided to do a questionnaire to get a wide ground. As a complement we interviewed twelve pupils and also did observations during their religion classes. During our study we focused on three different themes. These themes are the abrahamitic religions (Christianity, Judaism and Islam) Hinduism & Buddhism and attitudes to religion.

Our theoretical point of view is the intercultural perspective. Therefore we have studied government’s documents and propositions about intercultural education and we have also used an anthology by Pirjo Lahdenperä called Interkulturell pedagogik i teori och praktik (2004). We aim to investigate if the teaching in religion is compatible with the intercultural education.

The thesis reveals that there are lots of prejudices among the pupils in these two schools. We think that it is important that the teaching in religion must focus not only at the Christianity in younger ages. The subject must contain other religions like Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism in much earlier age. Otherwise the pupils will create their own picture of the different religions through media.

The Swedish governments goals about school (LPO 94) and the document about the teaching in religion (kursplanen i religionskunskap) both can, according to us, be used as tools for intercultural education. The problem is that the teachers do not know how to use these tools. The methods of intercultural education must be clearer and the teachers more conscious. Before that happens, we can not state that the education is totally intercultural.

We have a big challenge in front of us when we finally will step out on the labour market!
