A study of consumer Attitude of Product Involvement- A comparison between telemarketing and SMS Advertising

Tseng, Wen-yu 03 July 2010 (has links)
The Mobile media has flourished more and more recently. In terms of NCC (National Communications Commission) statistics, the mobile phone penetration had been more than 100% in Taiwan in 2008. In addition, the proportion of Mobile phone revenue was the highest part of telecommunication services in 2008. The marketing pattern developed from both of the highest revenue of Mobile phone business, ¡§Voice Service and Short Message Service (SMS)¡¨, telemarketing and SMS advertisement are the most significant. Therefore, it is definitely a useful study for advertiser who wants to compare both of the most important marketing tools, and which one is suitable for which product¡¦s marketing, additionally, the purpose of understanding the consumer¡¦s attitude and behavior intension. According to research methodology, this study has employed questionnaire survey technique. It had surveyed the consumers who have had received telemarketing and text-message advertisement, and for understanding the differentia of attitude and behavior intension when consumers face both of the marketing tools on different products. There are totally 300 valuable questionnaires. Make time from 18 April to 9 May in 2010. According to the findings of the study, to sell high-involvement with rational products, the telemarketing is better. And the object of the students, the military and housewife will likely purchase are more than people who serve as commercial and manufacturing. If advertiser wants to sell high-involvement with perceptual products, both telemarketing and SMS advertisement are useful. If advertiser wants to sell low-involvement with rational products, the telemarketing is easier to succeed. Furthermore, we can pay attention on that the attitudes and behavior intentions of female that are definitely better than male, and people with low educational level whose attitudes and behavior intentions are better than with high educational level, and low income people whose behavior intentions are better than high income people. If advertiser wants to sell low-involvement with perceptual products, the SMS advertisement is much better. In summary, it is important to mention that: People serve as the "services" whose attitudes and behavior intensions are ¡§low¡¨, and serve as "housewife", "military", "manufacturing" and "students" are ¡§high¡¨.

Mobile Display Advertising and Consumer Privacy : Mobile Ad Networks approach to Privacy, and their pointof view

Helander, Fredrik January 2010 (has links)
Research question: To what extent is mobile/SMS advertising privacy norms, associated with permission, relevance and control, applied to mobile display advertising contexts by mobile ad networks? How is this motivated? Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to work as an initial step in the process of establishing what privacy norms that should be applied by mobile ad networks in mobile display advertising contexts. Insights generated, regarding potential impacts of the rapid development within the mobile advertising industry on how privacy issues are handled by mobile ad networks, are desired outcomes. Such outcomes could then potentially be used as a foundation for future research within the field. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework of this study is based on previous research regarding mobile/SMS advertising. Methodology: I have applied a qualitative research strategy and an inductive research approach. Furthermore an interpretivistic epistemological position was taken and a constructionist ontological position. The research is designed as a multiple case study. The sample consists of the two mobile ad networks Ericsson and Inmobi. The companies were interviewed using semi-structured interviews. Results: Based on the findings, my answer to the research question is that mobile/SMS advertising privacy norms associated with permission relevance and control is only partly applied in mobile display advertising contexts. The reasons for applying/not applying the norms are all reasonable. There is no doubt about that the ad networks acts are greatly influenced by wanting to uphold consumer privacy. Established through the findings in this study is that the change within the mobile advertising industry, associated with new forms of advertising being available for advertisers through the medium and what information that is being collected about consumers, do have an effect on what privacy norms that are being applied. I view this as the main scientific contribution of this study.

Measuring Digital Signage ROI : A combination of Digital Signage and Mobile Advertising as a method for measuring Digtal Signage ROI

Helander, Fredrik January 2010 (has links)

Marketing has changed a lot the past decade. New modern marketing channels have been developed and marketing have become more effective. This has affected the expectations advertisers have on advertising channels. One thing advertisers increasingly expect is to be able to efficiently measure the result of advertising, the ROI. A method for measuring ROI of digital signage is in focus in this study. The measurement is enabled by a combination of digital signage and mobile advertising. First a consumer is exposed to digital signage encouraging SMS interaction in order to receive an electronic voucher entitling the consumer to a discount. If the voucher is used, revenues can be linked to a specific campaign and ROI can be calculated. The study focus on measuring the tendency consumers have to interact through SMS when they get exposed to relevant advertising and the tendency they have to use the voucher that is sent to them as a result of the interaction. The question is how efficient this method is for measuring ROI. In order to bring clarity to the issue, I conducted a quantitative survey using an online self completion questionnaire as measurement tool. It was distributed through e-mail among students at the College of Management at National Taiwan University. Furthermore, I have chosen a deductive approach, my epistemological position is positivism and I therefore utilize the scientific model conducting my research. My ontological position is objectivism meaning that I believe reality is independent of social actors.

The empirical data collected showed that the method in focus have great potential in working efficient for measuring ROI of digital signage. The general tendency to interact through SMS was high, on average 82.3% of the respondents would interact through SMS when getting exposed to relevant advertising. In addition, 96.5% of those would also use the voucher sent to them, enabling ROI calculations.

It was presumed that the digital signage advertising was relevant to such an extent to the consumer getting exposed to it, that he/she already had a purchase intention of the product/service which the advertising regarded. This should be remembered when evaluating the results. Nevertheless, if advertisers succeed in reaching out with relevant advertising enough, the findings in this study indicates that the method is an efficient tool to use for ROI calculations of digital signage.
