The purpose of this study is to discover the stylistic synthesis of the Scherzo of the Sonata for Guitar, Op. 47 (1976), by Alberto Ginastera through the comparison with Ginasterian scherzi written before this work, including: Vivacissimo, of the First String Quartet, Op. 20 (1948); Presto misterioso, of the Sonata for Piano No. 1, Op. 22 (1952); Presto magico, from the Second String Quartet, Op. 26 (1958); Scherzo fantastico, from the Quintet for Piano, Op. 29 (1963); Fantastico, of the Third String Quartet, Op. 40 (1973). The recurrence of materials and techniques within the harmonic/melodic and rhythmic parameters are observed. A bibliographic review of the traditional style of the Ginasterian opus is carried out, as well as an analysis of the structural form of the Scherzo, Op. 47.

Previous issue date: 2009-03-28 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This work aims to shed an analytical-interpretative look on the 3 Sonatas for Piano by José Penalva (1924-2002), wh re the analytical processes serve as a complement to instrumental performance. It was a historical and bibliographical survey on the composer, placing him within Brazilian and world music scene. This survey helped to highlight compositional characteristics of José Penalva, present in the three sonatas. Considering the idiomatic diversity of the sonatas each one in different musical language we used the set theory, or Pitch-Class Analysis, as an analytical tool and also some concepts of Schenkerian Analysis, in addition to the traditional thematic and motivic analysis. The entire analytical process, since its foundation till the final writing analysis was converged, making the relation analysis-performance complementary and productive to instrumental performance. The result of this union and complementation is present in the interpretative proposals and instrumental performance suggested in the body text, and
applied directly to the works, recorded on audio CD attached on this work / Este trabalho propõe-se a lançar um olhar analítico-interpretativo sobre as 3 Sonatas para Piano de José Penalva (1924-2002), onde os processos analíticos servem como complemento à performance instrumental. Realizou-se um levantamento histórico-bibliográfico sobre o
compositor, situando-o dentro do panorama usical brasileiro e mundial.

Copland's "Single Vision" and the Piano Sonata: A Lecture Recital, Together with Three Recitals of Selected Works of J.S. Bach, B. Bartok, L.v. Beethoven, F. Chopin, F. Liszt, W.A. Mozart, J.P. Rameau, M. Ravel, and F. SchubertMorris, Gregory W. (Gregory Wayne) 08 1900 (has links)
Difficulties are encountered in any discussion of Copland's style, for his works cover the spectrum from harsh, dissonant works to folk music. To avoid the task of defining a style which encompasses this array of vastly different pieces, a sharp distinction is frequently made between the abstract and popular works. However, Copland has repeatedly objected to such categorization, claiming that he composed from a single vision. A careful examination of his total output proves the validity of his claim. Many common characteristics are found throughout works from all categories and time periods. These traits include a basic economy of materials, emphasis on thirds, consistent method of development, use of declamation, jazz-influenced rhythms, cyclicism, and a slow/fast/slow sequence of movements, as well as within single movements. This document uses the Piano Sonata as a model of Copland's style, for it exemplifies these characteristics more clearly than any other major piece for piano. By making numerous comparisons with other works, Copland's single vision is revealed.

The Russian trumpet sonata: a study of selected representative sonatas for trumpet and piano with an historical overview of the Russian trumpet schoolAkhmadullin, Iskander 05 1900 (has links)
The impact of training on virtual team effectiveness was assessed in five areas: communication, planning tasks and setting goals, solving problems and making decisions, resolving conflict, and responding to customer requirements. A 12-page survey was developed exploring all aspects of virtual teams. 180 surveys were distributed, 52 were returned representing 43 companies. Training led to higher effectiveness in planning tasks and setting goals, solving problems and making decisions, and conflict resolution, but not in communication and responding to customer requirements. Training may not solve all the problems that virtual teams will encounter; however, training will make the challenges easier to handle.

Practical Aspects of Playing Domenico Scarlatti's Keyboard Sonatas on the Guitar, a Lecture Recital, together with Three Recitals of Selected Works by W.A. Mozart, M. Ponce, A. Vivaldi, J.S. Bach, J. Turina and OthersQuantz, Michael O. 05 1900 (has links)
The ornamentation in the keyboard sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti is investigated in light of evidence from late seventeenth and early eighteenth century Spanish treatises and collections. Additionally, calligraphic and statistical evidence from the earliest known manuscripts and printed source for the keyboard sonatas is explored. The study is focused on three ornaments--the appoggiatura, trill, and tremulo--and concludes that: the appoggiaturas in this repertoire were short unless cadential or present in a cantabile tempo, in which case they could be one-third to two-thirds the value of the resolution note; trills were begun on the main note unless preceded by a grace note; tremulo was usually an alternation of a main note with its lower neighbor note and this ornament is normally indicated at points of harmonic prolongation. The last chapter discusses general approaches to arranging these works for the guitar and the specific influence of ornamentation on the performance of the sonatas on guitar. Details from eight sonatas arranged for the guitar are used to exemplify the conclusions of the research.
