UWSPÓŁCZEŚNIENIE: THE CONTEMPORIZATION OF POLISH EDUCATION, POLITICS, AND SOCIETY IN THE ENLIGHTENMENT PERIOD examines the contemporization of educational, governmental, and societal structures that occurred in eighteenth-century Poland. Italian educational models and English governmental models influenced the development of Poland’s structures since the fourteenth century. The introduction and pervasiveness of Sarmatism in szlachta culture during the fifteenth century created the foundation for the szlachta democracy. Continued interference from neighboring rulers coupled with the erosion of educational standards inside Poland contributed to the szlachta’s susceptibility to corruption, which resulted in non-functioning government. Following the Partition of 1772, the Poles employed the assistance of French philosophes in developing revitalized educational and governmental structures. Stanisław Konarski, King Stanisław Poniatowski, Hugo Kołłątaj, Stanisław Staszic, and Michał Wiełhorski fought to thwart Catherine the Great’s attempts to subordinate Poland; the result was the Constitution of 3 May 1791 and the contemporization of Poland’s society during their enlightenment movement.

The Saint and Hallow Polish Martyrs In The Course of Centuries The objective of thesis "The Saint and Hallow Polish Martyrs In The Course of Centuries" is the introduction of selected Polish martyrs from the middle ages until the end of the 20th century. The thesis follow their cult development from its origin until present, including related demonstration of art, in particular the development of iconography. They also follow the influence of life example and the subsequent cult of the martyrs on the society at that time, as well as the spiritual and national awareness of the following generations. In this connection, they also give attention to particularities of the Polish national history, the constitutional arrangement, the artistic and culture relationships and environment and the history of the Catholic Church in Poland. Each chapter, which is introducing a Saint or a group of martyrs, is divided into three parts - the epoch, the life, the cult and iconography. The objective of this division is the schema of historical conditions in which the personality of the Saint was formed. These historical conditions were also determine for the martyrdom. The next parts of the chapters deal with a brief biography of the Saint and the summary of significant moments in the development of the Saint's cult...

Postava šlechtice ve vybraných dílech polské literatury v komparativní perspektivě / Character of nobleman in selected works of Polish literature in comparative perspective

The purpose of diploma work is formulate typology of nobleman in polish literary at 17 - 19 centuries. The theoretical part will include closer look on creativity of chosen authors and theirs works will be set into historical-literary context (for example notion sarmatism, noble culture in era of Romanism etc.). Analysis section will notice on mutual parallel and also on particular specific of each authors respectively on theirs texts if is it conception of noble character. Author of this task will issue from 3 main texts: Memoirs who's author is J. Ch. Pasek, from Mickiewicz's Pan Tadeasz and from trilogy of Henryk Sienkiewicz. Main attention will be focused on characteristic of nobleman, his perception of the world and problems of noble morality.
