Its general goal is to investigate the relationship between the health needs from lhe elderly and the reality of public services. The methodology used has adopted procedures consolidated either in quantitative approach or in qualitative approach. Besides the data colecting, observation in loco and the writing of a field dictionary were dane. It algo looked for information about the physical space, routines, offered services, sociability of services and the roles played by each component of this scenary. The research went on by the interest of revealing the day by day reality of this service showing the attendance of the needs from the eldery people. The research revealed through situations registered in the field dictionary thar the interviewed people felt well received by the staff from the hospital. However, the services and the spaces do not hold the quantity of people. So there is a need for reestruturation. The search from elderly people for specializes atendance was clearly showed in the investigation / Este trabalho teve por objetivo investigar o atendimento do idoso no Serviço Público de Saúde, no município de Santos, SP, tendo como objetivo geral investigar a relação existente entre as demandas de saúde do idoso e a realidade dos serviços públicos existentes. A metodologia utilizada adotou procedimentos radicados tanto na abordagem quantitativa, como qualitativa. Alem da coleta de dados, foram realizadas observações in loco e foi redigido um diário de campo. Foram também buscadas informações sobre o espaço físico, as rotinas existentes, os serviços oferecidos, a sociabilidade do serviço e os papeis desempenhados por cada participante deste cenário. A pesquisa moveu-se pelo interesse em desvendar a realidade do dia-a-dia deste serviço com a demanda diária de atendimento da clientela da Terceira Idade. A pesquisa revelou, por meio de situações registradas por meio de diário de campo que os entrevistados sente-se acolhidos pela equipe da policlínica. No entanto, os serviços existentes e o espaço físico, não comportam a demanda, havendo necessidade de uma reestruturação.
