AcademiaMap-GIV: Geo-based Information Visualization of Scholarly Conversations on Twitter

Rahman, Jamiur 07 December 2011 (has links)
Geo-based Information Visualizations (GIV) allow people to analyze data points based on their related geographic locations. This approach is usually adopted where a large scale geo-referenced dataset is present and users are trying to find a way to examine hidden patterns within this data. One of the emerging trends in GIV is to visualize social media data to show how information flows between users of popular social networking sites. Due to its public nature and the large number of users, most of the visualizations in this area rely on conversational data from Twitter (Twitter.com). In this thesis, we design and implement a web-based interactive GIV system, AcademiaMap-GIV, to visualize online conversations among scholars on Twitter. A formal exploratory user study was also conducted on the target users. The study results demonstrated that most of the study respondents found the features of AcademiaMap-GIV effective in regards to visualizing information of their interests.

The miḥan of Ibn Taymiya : a narrative account based on a comparative analysis of sources

Murād, Ḥasan Qāsim January 1968 (has links)
This thesis is, as its title duely indicates, an attempt to establish and describe the facts or events of an aspect of the public life of Ibn Taymiya (661-728), namely, his mihan or the trials and tribulations he underwent apparently due to the stands he took on certain dogmatic issues of his time. This thesis is divided into two chapters: the first tries to determine the originality of the sources in relation to each other as well as in relation to the mihan -- and their reliability; in all eighteen sources are dealt with. The second chapter tries to reconstruct a plausible account of the mihan on the basis of the knowledge acquired of the sources.

Islamic modernism in Malaya as reflected in Hadi's thought

Abu Bakar, Ibrahim bin January 1992 (has links)
This thesis presents Islamic modernism in Malaya as reflected in the life and works of Sayid Syekh al-Hadi (1867-1934). Having first described and evaluated the previous writings mentioned about al-Hadi, it outlines the main characteristics of Islamic modernism, and discusses al-Hadi's life and his thought covering four topics namely: ritualism, education, woman and politics. / The study has shown that al-Hadi was a Malayan Muslim modernist. He seriously advocated Islamic modernism to overcome what he had perceived as the causes contributing to Malayan Muslim decadence and backwardness. He believed that Malayan Muslims could advance and progress even though they were under British rule because Islamic teachings are practicable and realistic.
