No. of bitstreams: 1 Silvia Maria de Freitas Adriao.pdf: 873098 bytes, checksum: 2e557a035beb405696178c0e78f135e0 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-02-24 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The present study aimed to describe the expectations of the parents whose children study in private schools in São Paulo since the choice of the school where their children begin the elementary school; it also intended to describe the facilities those parents apply in order to build a successful school life for their children. The research focused on the social uses of school especially those used by the economically privileged groups. It was performed in date collection and study of literature on the issues about the participation, the private schools and family-school relations for the development of this research. It was performed a fieldwork for the collection of information through an on-line questionnaire sent to parents of private schools in different regions of São Paulo. Based on the Bourdieu's theory, it´s possible to assume that families operate in the educational field by the illusio (idea to invest with conscience in the field), playing the game of school education in line with the operation of private schools, by having similar habitus that are inculcated in schools that facilitate and promote this relationship. The study also identified that there is a market relationship embodied in the relationship between schools and those families in the terms of a business relationship, considering that the result and the interventions were due to the product that they bought at the time of making the choice of school for their children / A presente pesquisa teve como objetivo caracterizar qual é a expectativa que os pais de crianças que estudam em escolas privadas do município de São Paulo têm em relação à escolha da escola para seus filhos quando estes iniciam seu processo de escolarização no ensino fundamental e quais os recursos que utilizam para tentar construir uma vida escolar de sucesso.

School of Family Program: is it possible to educate for citizenship

Alessandro de Oliveira Souza 06 February 2009 (has links)
The question question that entitles this paper (Programa Escola da Familia Is it possible to educate to the citizenship?) motivated visits, on weekends, throughout the year 2007, to ten public schools of the São Paulo State, in the capital city São Paulo, to observe the School of Family Program (Programa Escola da Família PEF). A lively and dynamic parallel universe to formal school was discovered, chained to post modern values, whose consequence is an education for the practice of citizenship which, for being so fragmentary and free of more severe execution criteria, ends up to educate, but not on the point of forming real citizens. Thus, this education for citizenship practice deals with what we called an educational bridge built halfway on interrupted in the middle. This idea has led to a second question: Is it possible, then, to complement and conduct it to the purpose to which it was destined: to form a school community aiming at the critical and conscious practice of citizenship? Basing on significant data collecting, from attendance, papers and testimonies, both the positive and negative aspects of this Program have been emphasized. It was also attempted to offer viable suggestions to answer this second question, in what the importance of the Program, as an opportunitty to the informal education, is pointed out, with potential to change the organizational climate of shool (its invisible curriculum) for the better. And everything, in the dissertation, was done trying not to lose sight of the poetic tone that, the educational happening in a rough environment, as that of the Program, inspires.

Student perceptions of parent-adolescent closeness and communication about sexuality : relations with sexual knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors

Sputa, Cheryl L. January 1997 (has links)
Both educators and parents are concerned with how best to shape sexual development because of the myriad personal and social complications that can occur for adolescents along with becoming sexually active. Many variables have been shown individually to influence sexuality. Of specific interest in this study was parent-adolescent closeness and communication about sexuality. Past research has found parental communication about sexuality and parent-adolescent closeness individually to have a positive impact on adolescent sexuality. However, other studies have found no relation between parent-adolescent communication about sexuality and sexual outcomes. Still others have suggested that the combination of the two variables may have the most significant influence on adolescent sexuality. The main goal of this study was to see if a combination of parent-adolescent closeness and parental communication about sexuality was more strongly related to adolescent sexual knowledge, attidudes, and behaviors than either communication or closeness alone. Participants were 157 boys and girls in the ninth through twelfth grades from two suburban high schools in the midwest: Questionnaire measures of adolescents' perceptions were used. Canonical correlation analyses revealed two significant combinations of variables. First, age and maternal and paternal communication were significantly related to sexual behavior and sexual knowledge. Specifically, younger age and less maternal and paternal communication were related to less sexual behavior and less sexual knowledge. Second, gender, age, and maternal communication were significantly related to less sexual knowledge and more conservative sexual attitudes. Specifically, being younger and female and receiving less maternal communication was related to less sexual knowledge and more conservative attitudes. Four important findings are evident in these results. Implications for interpretation and future research are discussed. / Department of Educational Psychology
