público alvo, favorecendo o resgate da identidade individual / With marriage dissolution, the marital identity is deconstructed and one comes to live a new moment, in which the setting of new existential projects and the opportunity of restoring
oneself lead to a new significance of the individual identity. Based on such assumption, this dissertation aimed to comprehend the feelings that emerge in men and women when they lose the power of marital bond. The research followed the qualitative model and had as its participants three divorced men and four divorced women, who reside in the city of Recife and its metropolitan region. The instrument used was a semi-structured interview and the data collected were submitted to a Thematic Content Analysis. The results indicated that the most frequent feelings and emotions were equally present in the interviews. Among the positive ones are the feelings of freedom, happiness and peace. The negative ones evidence the sense of alienation, jealousy and anger, mixed with sadness, failure and missing. Regarding the mourning characteristics shown during the marital break-up process, we found that the majority of the people interviewed had feelings linked to the divorce. However, three of the participants
apparently did not experience the mourning, which just came lately, that is, the emotional reaction rose after some time of the loss occurrence, in an exaggerated and intense way, which was no longer compatible to their moment. Attempting to identify the interferences caused by the divorce in the health of the people interviewed, we noticed again a certain balance: now the termination influenced to keep or seek for a better quality of life, now it influenced negatively, affecting their health. About the strategies used to grant new significance to the individual identity, we observed that searching and establishing a new affective bond was a tool used by the individuals studied, in order to support such new significance. The majority of them achieved granting new significance to their individual identities and could become self-reliant and able to develop their own individuality. They experienced the process of subjectivity that put them in touch with themselves, from what they could achieve individual and meaningful changes, and deconstruct marital identities and make possible living new perspectives of themselves. They created new existential projects able to contribute to their own singularity, growing and maturation, including their being towards the other. We hope that this academic work has enhanced the discussions about the theme, as well as innovations in the assistance services offered by the legal bodies to such target audience, favoring the rescue of individual identity.

Previous issue date: 2008-11-01 / Until women started growing on the job market her identity was built only throughout the marriage, increasing her investment in family and love life. Because of that, this research focused on investigating the process of grief lived by women when their love relationship end
either by consensus or official. For this study eight divorced women that haven t had experienced remarriage were interviewed. Their age range was between 38 and 66 with a
medium age of 49 years old. They were from middle class and lived in two big capitals Recife and Rio de Janeiro. All the interviewed had kids with their ex partners. With their consent the interviews were recorded. Taking in consideration the Thematic Analysis, their responses
were categorized in themes building the categories. Data indicates that independent of dumper or dumped, different feelings can appear after a separation: freedom, tranquility, rejection, fear, angry, sadness, etc. Some of the interviewed accepted the end of the marriage but on the
other side, some pointed to the difficult dealing with the lost, not just of the partner but the marriage by itself. Most of the participants related the end of marriage to different facts, among them are the men infidelity, social class differences, education and interests and the
fact that some of the interviewed were providers during the marriage. Analyzing how the individual identity reconstruction process happened among the participants was verified that separation was an opportunity to establish new projects and recover self aspects. As for the
relationship with ex-partners, one of the participants confirmed the possibility of love relationship be transformed into friendship. All the others agree that this situation does not correspond to reality. We hope that this academic work contributes to the investigation of the
feminine grief due to love separation, incentivizing reflections and reinforcing the actual bibliography about this subject / Até sua entrada no mercado de trabalho, a identidade da mulher foi construída somente através do casamento, de modo que ela faz ainda um grande investimento na vida
afetiva e familiar.

Courage under fire: stories of adolescents who survive the destruction of divorceHenning, Deirdre Helena 31 October 2005 (has links)
The prevalence of divorce within society is reflected in the rising divorce rate worldwide. Consequently, divorce has become more accepted, although adolescents from divorced families are considered at risk for maladjustment. The aim of this study is to give a voice to adolescents who have experienced their parents' divorce and to highlight their resilience despite the challenges they faced.
The epistemological framework is social constructionism. In-depth interviews with two adolescents who have experienced the divorce of their parents were undertaken. The method of analysis used was `Thematic content analysis'.
The participants' stories were recounted through the lens of the researcher in the form of themes. Recurring themes in these stories were elucidated and linked with the literature.
This study allowed rich and detailed descriptions about adolescents' experiences to emerge, which the researcher hopes will broaden the therapeutic understanding of the complexities of divorce for the adolescents who survive it. / Psychology / MA (Clinical Psychology)

Exploring the involvement of children in the decisionmaking process about their futureMoeketsi, Ramathabathe Rossy 09 1900 (has links)
The researcher wanted to explore the experiences of children who removal by a social worker either to an institution or to foster homes. The researcher wanted to find out if the behaviour of absconding could be explained by using systems theory, contructivism, cybernetics and person- centered theory.
The researcher hypothesized that children abscond from alternative care as a means of communicating with the social worker involved as well as any other person significant in their lives.
The study wanted to explore how these children perceived their involvement in the decision making process of their removal. The researcher only interviewed children who had absconded from the alternative care placements.
The study found that all the children interviewed perceived that they were not involved in any way in the process of removal. They all saw their removal as a form of punishment for something they did wrong, but they did not get an opportunity to discuss with their parents or significant others. They also perceived their absconding as an effort to rectify the situation. A lot of anger and suspicion towards social workers was encountered during the study.
In terms of the theories mentioned above, these perceptions are the children’s own reality, which might differ from the realities as created or perceived by social workers.
It is hypothesized that social workers who use the Child Care Act 74/83 and its regulations in the removal of children, do it to protect the children from risky situations as their job responsibility requires.
This study indicates that the children did not experience removal as protection. Instead of children feeling protected in the alternative care, they felt blamed, judged and unhappy about their removal and excluded from the process.
The researcher made a few suggestions that could be considered when social workers removing children to alternative care.
It is recommended that social workers involve the children and their parents or significant others in the entire process of deciding the future of any children in their (parents’) care.
However, if removal is deemed necessary, just telling or informing children that they will be removed for their own safety is not enough. Children might not perceive the situation as dangerous. Instead, they might see the social worker as posing a danger to them and their families and thus try to shut the social worker and what s/he says out of their minds.
Findings safe ways to involve children and families in the decisions about their future may require of social workers to revive their academically acquired knowledge in this respect. / Social Work / M.A. (Social Sciences (Mental Health))

Women coping with divorce through social supportBoon, Christine 10 1900 (has links)
This study investigates the role of social support in women coping with divorce in mid
life. Five women were interviewed and a qualitative analysis undertaken, in order to
explore the subjective experience of social support during the period of separation and
divorce, and its effect on post-divorce adjustment. In particular, the usefulness of
formal support groups was examined. It was found that most of the women derived perceived
social support from friends and female family members, as well as from their church membership
and work environment. It appeared that social support facilitated adjustment in several
ways, but most notably in providing esteem support and emotional support which enabled personal
growth. All of the women felt that they had developed a sense of their own identity through
the process of divorce. Support groups were found to be potentially effective in providing
assistance in dealing with emotional issues such as anger and forgiveness, as well as
practical and informational support. Such groups might also provide a temporary community
where divorced women can interact with other people who are experiencing the same things, thereby
freeing them to grieve.
The study illuminated the subjective, often unique experience of separation and divorce;
this emphasises the challenge for support groups to offer support which addresses this
uniqueness. / Psychology / M.A. (Psychology)

Gesinsberaders in die Wes-Kaap se perspektiewe op ouervervreemding tydens egskeidingLaunspach, Liezl Helena 11 1900 (has links)
Parental alienation is described as a child’s unreasonable rejection of one parent due to the influence of the other parent combined with the child’s own contributions. This phenomenon arises mainly in families of divorce where elevated levels of parental conflict, and care and contact disputes lead to increased tension and antagonism between the parties. The perspectives of family counsellors, who conduct assessments of children from families of divorce to make best-interest assessments for contact and care arrangements or to formulate and implement interventions, on parental alienation, were explored in this qualitative study. A literature study was undertaken to define parental alienation and to place the phenomenon in a South African context, specifically with reference to children’s legislature, and care and contact issues. From this, a theoretical framework for the study was constructed. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight family counsellors in the Western Cape to explore their experience of the problem. Seven themes were identified, by which the perspectives of family counsellors regarding parental alienation were described in detail. The themes are:
Theme 1: Parental alienation during divorce
Theme 2: Characteristic properties of parental alienation
Theme 3: False accusations during parental alienation
Theme 4: Assessing for parental alienation
Theme 5: Interventions for parental alienation
Theme 6: Parental alienation in the judicial context
Theme 7: Needs of family counsellors regarding parental alienation / Psychology / M. Diac. (Spelterapie)
