Recent trends in information technologies result in a massive proliferation of data which are carried over different kinds of networks, produced in either on-demand or streaming fashion, generated and accessible by a variety of devices, and that can involve mobility aspects. This thesis presents an approach for the evaluation of hybrid queries that integrate the various aspects involved in querying continuous, mobile and hidden data in dynamic environments. Our approach consists of representing such an hybrid query as a service coordination comprising data and computation services. A service coordination is specified by a query workflow and additional operator workflows. A query workflow represents an expression built with the operators of our data model. This workflow is constructed from a query specified in our proposed SQL-like query language, HSQL, by an algorithm we developed based on known results of database theory. Operator workflows enable to compose computation services to enable the evaluation of a particular operator. HYPATIA, a service-based hybrid query processor, implements and validates our approach.

A System for Rapid Configuration of Distributed Workflows over Web Services and their Handheld-Based CoordinationJoshi, Jaimini 12 January 2006 (has links)
Web services technology has lately stirred tremendous interest in industry as well as the academia. Web services are self-contained, platform independent functionality which is available over the internet. Web services are defined, discovered & accessed using a standard protocols like WSDL, UDDI & SOAP. With the advent of Service-Oriented Architecture and need for more complex application, it became eminent to have a way in which these independent entities could collaborate in a coherent manner to provide a high level functionality. But the problem of service composition is not an easy one. One reason being the self-contained and loosely coupled interaction style, which happens to be the single most important reason for its popularity. We are proposing a prototype system for distributed coordination of web services. This system is based on the Web Bonds model for coordination. The system, dubbed BondFlow system, allows configuration and execution of workflows configured over web services. Presently BondFlow system allows both centralized as well as distributed coordination of workflows over handhelds, which we claim as an engineering feet and is currently a unique work in this area.

Today we are witnesses of the explosion of data producer massively by largely distributed of data produced by different devices (e.g. sensors, personal computers, laptops, networks) by means of data services. In this context, It is about evaluate queries named hybrid because they entails aspects related with classic queries, mobile and continuous provided by static or nomad data services in mode push or pull. The objective of my thesis is to propose an approach to optimize hybrid queries based in multi-criteria preferences (i.e. SLA – Service Level Agreement). The principle is to combine data services to construct a query evaluator adapted to the preferences expressed in the SLA whereas the state of services and network is considered as QoS measures.

Service coordination for system navigation when living with a neurological condition in ManitobaWetzel, Monika Y. 08 September 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to explore the diverse experiences of accessing health and social services when living with a neurological condition in Manitoba. Using a qualitative research design, I conducted 15 in-depth semi-structured interviews with adults living with a neurological condition in Manitoba. Findings demonstrated how characteristics of patients, and their service providers/systems, either predisposed them to a lack of service coordination or enabled them to successfully navigate health and social services. In the event that those factors contributed to a need or desire for coordination, participants employed strategies to improve their experience accessing services by i. pursuing knowledge to improve access, ii. actively engaging in behaviours to improve services, or iii. mentally coping with inadequate services. To conclude, practical recommendations on possible initiatives to improve the daily experiences of individuals living with neurological conditions are also provided. / October 2015
