Período em que abordaremos as relações de trabalho, as formas de dominação e resistências, os aspectos econômicos e sociais no contexto da cultura do algodão e do agave; estudaremos ainda as lutas por direitos trabalhistas nas barras da justiça, a formação do Sindicato dos Trabalhadores Rurais de boqueirão no inicio da década de 60, bem como as estreitas relações com a Igreja Católica e a politica assistencialista do sindical, de modo a entender todo esse processo na conjuntura do golpe militar e o contexto vivenciado pelo Nordeste nos anos 60, 70 e 80, época que as secas assolaram a população causando mortes e obrigando muitos a se deslocarem para o Sudeste do país. Nessa direção há ainda que considerar as diferenças regionais acentuadas a partir dos anos 50 com a industrialização no Sudeste e o precário setor agrário do Nordeste, combinado com as obras contra as secas, como a construção de barragens e estradas que favoreciam os grandes proprietários de terra que dominavam a política local. Neste quadro analisaremos ainda processos crimes envolvendo trabalhadores e um processo de crime eleitoral que nos remete a coação utilizada pelos coronéis nas eleições no interior do Brasil. / This paper studies the daily lives of Cariri workers, especially the eastern cariri, with greater emphasis on Caturité and Boqueirao from the years 1950 to 1980 period in which we will cover labor relations, forms of domination and resistance, the economic and social aspects in the context of the cotton crop and agave; also study the struggle for labor rights in the justice bars, the formation of the big mouth of the Rural Workers Union in the early 60s, as well as the close relations with the Catholic Church and the welfare policy of the union, in order to understand all this process in the context of the military coup and the situation experienced by the Northeast in the 60s, 70s and 80s, a time that droughts devastated the population causing deaths and forcing many to move to the southeast of the country. In this direction there is to consider regional differences accentuated from the 50s with industrialization in the Southeast and the precarious agrarian sector of the Northeast, combined with the works against droughts, such as building dams and roads that favored the large landowners who dominated local politics. In this context we analyze further processes crimes involving workers and an election crime process that leads us to coercion used by the colonels in the elections in the interior of Brazil.

Tangencialmente, trago à tona várias questões relacionadas com o estudo da classe operária: projeto organizativo, cultura operária, liderança e base, sindicato e espaço público, etc., todavia, concentro-meno estudo das relações entre sindicalismo, governo e estado. Através deste recorte investigativo, apresento outras possibilidades interpretativaspara se analisar a presença da classe operária na construção da cidadania no Brasil. Essa opção tomou inevitável um diálogo critico com alguns estudos considerados clássicos do populismo e da história da classe operária brasileira. Estruturei a dissertação em quatro momentos interligados entre si: no primeiro, contextualizo o debate político e econômico em tomo da inserção da região sul. riograndense no projeto desenvolvimentista que na ocasião implantava-seno país. Com a intenção de esclarecer as condições emque se deu a breve hegemonia do projeto trabalhista no Rio Grande do Sul, neste momento inicial da dissertação, também debrucei-me sobre a estratégia de campanha eleitoral utilizada por Leonel Brizola para conquistar o governo. Na tentativa de apresentar as principais características definidoras do sindicalismo portoalegrense; no segundo momento, resgatei as ações coletivas dos trabalhadores contra a carestia.No terceiro momento, através da análise do processo de estatização da Companhia de Energia Elétrica Rio Grandense, situo com mais detalhes as relações entre o sindicalismo e o governo de Leonel Brizola. Encerro, reconstruindo a especificidade da participação dos trabalhadores e suas organizações em uma das ações políticas mais marcantes da história gaúcha: o Movimento da Resistência Democrática, também conhecido popularmente pelo Movimento da Legalidade / Abstract: "The heirs of Sisifus: the collective action of the workers of Porto Alegre between 1958 and 1964" deals with labor unionism within the context ofthe organizational and political rise ofthe labour movement in Rio Grande do Sul. I approach, various questions related to the study of the working class: organisational project, working classculture, leadership and union members, unions and the public environment etc, however, I focus upon the study of the relations between labor unionism, the state government and the state. Using this investigatíve point ofview. I present other interpretative possibilities to ana1yzethe presence of the working class in the construction of Brazilian citizenship. This option implies an inevitable critical dialogue with some of what are considered to be the classical studies about populism and the history of the Brazilian working class. I organized the structure ofthe dissertation into four interrelated parts: first1y,I contextualize the polítical and economical debate aboutthe insertion ofthe southem state, Rio Grande do Sul, into the developmental project, which was implanted in the country at that time with the intention to explain the conditions which led to the brief ascension and primacy of this workers project in Rio Grande do Sul and initially studied the successful electoral campaign used by Leonel Brizola that 100to his goveming of the state. Secondly, in the attempt to present the determining, principal characteristics of labor unionism in Porto Alegre, I researched and used collective workers actions against the social problems existing at that time. Thirdly, I situate the relations between labor unionism and the state government of Leonel Brizola, analysing the process of nationalizing the Electric Energy Company of Rio Grande do Sul.
