[en] BENEFITS OF COMMUNITY SERVICES PENALTY AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO CUSTODIAL SENTENCE: EXPERIENCE OF THE COUNTY OF DUQUE DE CAXIAS / [pt] OS BENEFÍCIOS DA PRESTAÇÃO DE SERVIÇOS À COMUNIDADE COMO ALTERNATIVA A PENA PRIVATIVA DE LIBERDADE: EXPERIÊNCIA DA COMARCA DE DUQUE DE CAXIASCÍNTHIA MATA DE OLIVEIRA 19 October 2011 (has links)
[en] This dissertation aims to analyze the importance of the Community Service Penalty as a form of Alternative Penalty and its benefits, as for inmates as the community and society. For this, we started the discussion by drawing a picture of social and historical types of penalties since the ancient history until the present day, showing their actual political and economic functions in diverse societies.
We analyze the Sentencing Alternative Measures showing its implementation process in Brazilian laws and the distinction between the two expressions. We present how the Sentencing Alternative Measures are applied and how was the installation of the Community Service Penalty on the Sentencing and Alternative Measures Centre in the town of Duque de Caxias, where the field research was conducted. Therefore, the guiding elements of the research are the limitations and the possibilities related to the accomplishment and the effectiveness of the Community Services Penalty, as well as the analysis of the partner institutions that participated directly in the realization of this type of penalty. Finally, we analyze the contribution of Social Service over the Community Service Penalty, presenting the historical process of their integration into the Judicial System, how these sentences are monitored daily, and what is the attitude of the Social Service about this theme.

No contest : theorizing power through aspects of health and social care policy in the wake of the demise of the internal market in NHS WalesMagill, Julia Rose January 2011 (has links)
Following in the footsteps of Neitzsche (1968) and Foucault (1980), Clegg et al (2006) and Haugaard and Clegg (2009) have argued that power is the most central concept in the analysis of organization and organizing. The desirability of further developing the theorization of power in health and social care policy in the United Kingdom has been identified in a number of recent publications (Hunter, 2008; Crinson, 2009; Ham, 2009). This critical overview analyzes relative power to connect policy at the macro level (ending the internal market in NHS Wales) with specific policy issues encompassed by the four projects within the portfolio on: • locality commissioning; • delayed transfers of care; • governance, incentives and integration; and • safeguarding adults. The contribution to knowledge that flows from this critical overview: identifies that theorizing power in health and social care policy may help to explain apparent disconnections between policy intent and the effect of policy in practice in the context of post-devolution Wales; • suggests that, at its most extreme, neglecting to take into account the role of power in the design, implementation and review of policy in this particular policy arena becomes a matter of life and death; and • proposes that exploring power in health and social care policy through Foucauldian-informed critical discourse analysis of relative power could to some extent facilitate translation of policy aspirations into practice.

Complementarity in therapyLouw, Humarita 11 1900 (has links)
In this study Complementarity in Therapy, it has been outlined how the construct, cybernetic complementary description or complementarity can be used in therapy to invent an imaginary team for the helper working solo. Complementarity is used to create alternative ideas, simulating the contribution of a team especially in pre-session
hypothesising. A literature study explores the possibilities of complementarity as a cybernetic constructivist construct. Of special significance is the contributions of Varela's formulation of complementarity as trinities, introducing the slash (/) Keeney's emphasis on recursion indicated by circulating arrows and Flemeons emphasis on imbrecation and levels of connection illustrated with different types of lettering. A case study is described to illustrate how complementarity was applied. / Social Work / M.A. (Social science (Mental health))

Narratives of challenge and motivation : the stories of East London Community Health Care volunteersNgconjana, Unati January 2017 (has links)
The research study was aimed at exploring the narratives of motivations and challenges that home-based health care workers experience in their voluntary service provision. It was conducted in East London in Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality. A total of seven participants who volunteer in home based care programmes were interviewed and their mean age was 30 years; all were females, two married, one a widow, one divorced and two single females. The narrative framework was used to explore the volunteers' interpretation of volunteering experiences, highlighting themes that emerged on what encourages them to volunteer as home based health care workers, and how they deal with challenges that arise during the provision of services. The research was also aimed at exploring the social factors supporting the volunteers' decision to continue volunteering. Narratives from the interviewed community health workers [CHWs] indicate that the motives for participating in CHW programmes are mainly altruistic although people are sometimes motivated by self-interest. Self-interest seems to be particularly relevant in the case of the younger volunteers as they expressed their hope that providing voluntary service may help to enhance their skills so as to facilitate future learning and employment prospects. The recurring themes within the CHWs' narrative indicate that they identify with the helping role and feel it empowers them as they participate in meaningful ways in their communities, and they gain strength to cope with challenges that come with community health work. This study highlighted the complex nature of home based care roles, which inevitably reflect the intervention approach, the mode of working, professional roles and relationships with communities.
