Geek or Nerd¡HThe Practice of Masculinities and Intimate Relationships by engineers in Taiwan's technology industries

Chen , Yi-Jing 10 September 2012 (has links)
¡@¡@The study was undertook the engineers who involved in speed dating from technology industries, in an attempt to understand the masculinities and lifestyles shaped by workplace how to influence engineers from the workplace to speed dating domain, as well as the establishment of heterosexual relationships and management of intimate relationships. The researcher took masculinities as a way to analysis, from the male power and masculinities of the organization as a starting point, by interviewed with engineers to understand how the workplace shaped particular masculinities qualities in the organizations power, control, decision-making and payments. ¡@¡@In Taiwan, the high-tech industrial¡¦s engineers defined as the representatives of hegemonic masculinity by Connell (1995), they enjoyed a privileged position of cultural dominance as well as the relationships of gender order. Also, their professional identity was considered to be welcomed in the marriage market. The study¡¦s interviewers was based on engineers who has been participated in a speed dating activities, and found that engineers were lack of the ability to do intimate, and not good at dominant the topic. Therefore, they have to memorize a joke or to learn a talent so as to narrow the distance with the opposite sex, and then develop the special atmosphere of ¡§pick up a girl and fight side by side, ¡§and abandon the competence of masculine ranking between each other. ¡@¡@Finally, Giddens mentioned that in the discussion of heterosexual relationships and intimacies, the intimacy of modernity are becoming more and more plasticity and fluidity. However, to those busy on the work called ¡§High tech millionaires,¡¨ the ideal image for equal intimacy relationships was inappropriate. To high tech millionaires, the management of intimate relationships of the expectations and awareness in the public and private sector did not develop into so-called pure relationships by Giddens, corresponding to Jamieson¡¦s questioned that there are many changes or unchangeable factors which affect the management of intimate relationships in real life. Therefore, the researcher tries to analysis the attitude and imagination of the high tech millionaires to heterosexual relationships and management of intimate relationships, to understand how engineers from the masculine workplace and rational dominance transition to the fields of intimate relationships.

Rozhodování při výběru partnera v romantických vztazích / Decision making in choosing a partner in romantic relationships

Rubenová, Lucie January 2015 (has links)
This master's thesis deals with the topic of decision making when choosing a partner in romantic relationships. It reacts to the phenomenon of looking for a partner via internet dating sites and tries to determine whether the requirements we have for an ideal partner correspond to the real-life selection of a romantic partner. In the theoretical part studies and theoretical concepts concerning romantic partnership are presented - selection of a partner as well as relationship maintenance. The thesis is based on evolutionary-psychological theories (Buss, 1989), experience of partner counselors and theoretical concepts of social psychologists, such as triangular theory of love (Sternberg, 1986) or five love languages (Chapman, 2002). In the decision making area, the thesis relies primarily on Kahneman's (2013) two systems within the dual process theory. The empirical part poses the question whether we spot differences between the preferred characteristics of ideal partner and the subjectively evaluated characteristics of the person who we are attracted to at a real-life meeting, motivated to potentially establish a romantic relationship. In my research, most of the observed aspects showed significant references. The target group were Czech university students who participated in speed dating event...

Analyzing "Word Games": Complex functions of language during traditional face-to-face speed-dating and online speed-dating events

Wade, Jennifer A. January 2013 (has links)
Two Studies investigated the relationship between verbal behavior and short-term mate selection. The first study, an observational traditional speed-dating study, collected audio and video recordings of dyadic interactions between men and women in addition to self-report data on whether the participant would like to talk to each date in the future. The second study, a true experiment, employed the use of a researcher confederate to manipulate verbal behavior and attractiveness level of the speed-date partner. Participants were led to believe they were being "matched" with three other undergraduates based upon online profiles. Verbal behavior manipulations included varying valence-based autoclitics (neutral or high) and self-other referential autoclitics in two sequential orders (based on I , you , I /you in relation to one another, and dyadic we frames of reference). During traditional speed-dating, a wide variety of verbal operants were used. In general, dyadic we was not frequently used by participants, imprecise tacting tended to be characteristic of no ratings, and successful speed-daters tended to modify their verbal behavior as appropriate to the specific listener. For online-dating, among the findings concerning the observed relationships between autoclitics, physical attractiveness, and various outcomes in short-term romantic interest, were confederate use of I-to-we sequential progressions with neutral valence tended to best predict longer times spent chatting, as chosen by participants when given the choice to chat more than the five-minute minimum. Additionally, confederate use of I and you in relation to one another was positively correlated with participant interest ratings of the confederate for medium-attractiveness confederates and was negatively correlated with interest ratings for low- and high-attractiveness confederates. Autoclitics moderated the relationship between physical attractiveness of the confederate and yes ratings for both low- and high- attractiveness confederates. Findings from the current projects are discussed in context of general dissemination of verbal behavior and in context of other populations. / Psychology

Souvislost neverbálních projevů a menstručního cyklu žen / Association of nonverbal behavior and menstrual cycle

Kučerová, Radka January 2012 (has links)
In previous years, researches have found significant increase of the female attractiveness around the time of ovulation. Among changes, that have been identified, were for example changes in olfactory, vocal, facial and body attractivenes. However, it has not been examined so far, whether this perception is also reflected in non-verbal expressions of women and men interacting with women. We also examined if attractiveness of men influences women nonverbal behavior depending on menstrual cycle phase. The study used a speed-dating paradigm (each person meets several people of the opposite sex for 3 minutes) and interactions were videotaped. We analyzed 391 videotapes of 92 men interacting with women who were in the follicular (187 interactions) or luteal (204 interactions) cycle phase and 391 videotapes of 34 women (18 in the follicual and 16 in luteal cycle phase). We recorded specific behavioural acts and states and these behavioural components loaded into two factors: (i) expressions of interest and (ii) expressions of disinterest. We found no significant differences in overall score of interest or disinterest in relation to the women's menstrual cycle. However, men communicating with women in the fertile phase spoke significantly longer than those communicating with women in the luteal phase of the cycle...

Kooperativt lärande och matematik – aktionsforskning i en högstadieklass

Bolin, Charlotte January 2019 (has links)
