Spots eleitorais e a decisão do voto: o caso da campanha presidencial de 2010 / Electoral spots and vote decision: the case of Brazilian presidential campaign of 2010

Pimentel Junior, Jairo Tadeu Pires 15 May 2015 (has links)
The electoral propaganda and specifically the Free Time Electoral Propaganda (HGPE) on TV are the subject of a great amount of works in Brazil, but few of them consider analyze the electoral spots and rarer still is the study of its impact on the vote. Therefore, the case study is restricted to the analysis of the presidential election of 2010, having as empirical object the spots served by the two main candidates of the dispute: Dilma Rousseff and José Serra. Based on the emotional intelligence model (Marcus; McKuen; Neuman, 2000) and a vast literature of the effects of political communication on the vote (Brader, 2007; Tinkham; Weaver-Lariscy, 1993; Johnson-Cartee; Copeland, 1991; Merritt 1984; Pinkleton, 1997 etc.), an experimental study was carried out to evaluate how these different types of spot influenced the choice of the voters. Among the results, it is observed that the positive spots were effective in increasing the intention to vote in the candidate of the spot, but not efficient to reduce the intention to vote in the opponent candidate. Second, the comparative spots were more like impact to the positive spots than negative ones to influence the decision making of the vote, which is contrary to the literature on the subject, which considers such spot as negative. It was also observed that negative spots showed no boomerang effect, which shows great strategic capacity of this type of spot to undermine the intent of the opponent\'s vote without necessarily mean losses for the candidate that conveys.

Análise do comportamento termoelástico de um freio a tambor, utilizando o método dos elementos finitos / Analysis of the thermoelastic behavior of a drum brake, using the finite element method

Gustavo dos Santos Ribeiro 15 July 2015 (has links)
This work presents the development of a numerical model based on thermoelastic behavior of a drum brake applied to heavy vehicles. The coupling of physics and mechanical phenomena during the braking process represents an important phase in the design vehicle systems. The identification of potential failures during the braking processes, considering the preliminary design phase gives robustness to the design. This characteristic allows reducing the time and cost of experimental set-up. This work presents the development and preliminary results of a numerical model based on thermal-elastic behavior of an automotive drum brake. It was considered three main conditions for the analysis: rigid bodies statics, flexible bodies statics and flexible bodies steady state dynamic analysis. The main objective of this study is investigate and estimate the relationship between the design parameters, as strain, stress as well thermal loads and temperature gradient, in conditions of static and quasi-static steady state regime. The estimative of these parameters to support the technical decisions related to reliability design, mainly to anticipate failures arising to thermal fatigue and adhesive wear.

Unconventional oil and natural gas supplies and the mitigation of climate change / Pétrole et gaz naturel non conventionnels et l'atténuation du changement climatique

Pougy, Roberto 30 June 2017 (has links)
This thesis in energy and environmental economics extends the geological Hotelling-type extraction-exploration model from Okullo, Reynes and Hofkes (2015) in order to account for the bell-shaped reserve additions that were empirically observed by Laherrère (2003). The proposed model explains them as the result of geological “sweet spots”: premium areas within geological formations where the concentration of hydrocarbons is highest. The proposed theoretical formulation was programmed into the mathematical model LOGIMA – “Long-term Oil and Gas Images” – and calibrated on data covering the seven main unconventional oil and gas plays in the United States. Results indicate the need to learn the location of sweet spots through trial and error drillings leads to schedules of exploratory effort that allow the optimal “de-risking” of exploratory activities. As a result, the optimal response of producers to price shocks becomes contingent on the prevailing level of cumulative discoveries. We apply LOGIMA to investigate the impact, caused by the recent advent of large-scale supplies of unconventional oil and gas, in the United States, on the ongoing efforts to mitigate climate change. We do so by soft coupling long-term scenarios from LOGIMA with the integrated assessment model, IMACLIM-R, a recursive, computable general equilibrium model of integrated global energy, economy and environment systems. We analyze how different price targets, potentially pursued by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), would affect supplies of unconventional oil and gas from the United States. We control this interplay under three climate policy frameworks: business as usual (BAU), nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and 2°C scenario (2DS). The results of the exercise show that, despite having a significant potential to affect global energy markets, unconventional oil and gas supplies would have a limited potential to affect global cumulative greenhouse gas emissions to 2040, as the different effects triggered in different sectors approximately balanced each other out.

Investigação por meio de efeito SERS e SERRS dos sistemas híbridos formados pela interação da 3,6-bi-2-piridil-1,2,4,5-tetrazina e complexos de rutênio com ouro macroscópico e nanoparticulado / Investigation of SERS and SERRS effect of the Hybrid Systems made by the interaction of 3,6-bi-2-pyridyl-1,2,4,5-tetrazine and its ruthenium complexes with macroscopic and nanoparticle gold

Vitor Hugo Soares de Melo 10 May 2010 (has links)
The synthesis and investigation of heterohybrid systems encompassing 3,6-bi-2-pyridyl-1,2,4,5-tetrazine (bptz) and its ruthenium complexes associated with gold nanoparticles are dealt with in this thesis. Bptz was characterized by spectroscopic and theoretical techniques, focusing on its SERS spectra after the adsorption onto nanoparticles. The charge transfer mechanism in the SERS spectra of macroscopic metals was transposed to the nanoparticle condition, assuming the formation of chemical bonds between bptz and the nanoparticles. Complexes of general formula [LmRu(µ--bptz)RuLm]Xn, “L” the peripheric ligants 5-chlorine-1,10-phenantroline or 4’-(phenyl)-2,2&#8217:6&#8217,2&#8221-terpyrdine (ptpy), and “X” counter-ions were also investigated, with special emphasis on their electronic and SERS spectroelectrochemistry. The changes in the vibrational profiles were successfully explained by the occurrence of charge transfer between the adsorbed complex and gold, in addition to the electromagnetic and resonance mechanisms.

Le Cain, Aurélie 20 January 2012 (has links)
The future French Laser Megajoule (LMJ) is a multiple laser beam facility built to achieve Inertial confinement Fusion (ICF). It is mainly designed for an indirect drive scheme using X-rays conversion. In this scheme, the target in the center of the hohlraum is irradiated and then compressed by the X-rays more uniformly than what it would be in a direct drive schemes. However, a high of uniformity is still needed to reach ignition since the propagation of intense laser beams in an under-critical plasma can generate laser-plasma instabilities (LPI). The control of LPI is of crucial importance for the success of ICF. By breaking both spatial and temporal coherences, the use of optical smoothing techniques, such as smoothing by spectral dispersion (SSD), often dramatically reduces LPI and also ensures the reproducibility of laser conditions from one shot to another. An accurate description of the speckle pattern in the hohlraum is thus of great interest for ICF experiments. We focus our attention on the spatial and then temporal properties of the speckles pattern generated by multiple laser beams. At first, we establish equations for the 3D speckle size based on autocorrelation functions. Numerical simulations of the propagation of multiple laser beams in vacuum are then performed with the PARAX code in configurations where the paraxial approximation can be used. The case of speckle patterns in the LMJ configuration in the zone where all the beams overlap is eventually studied. We show that such speckles have an ellipsoidal shape. Finally, influence of the polarization of the beams on the shape, size and abundance of the speckles is also investigated. In a second part we study the important aspect of temporal smoothing techniques like the movement of the speckles. This work is also triggered by the development of a statistical model that describes the motion of hot spots in order to evaluate the contrast, the trajectory and the velocity of LMJ hot spots. We address these quantities in the case of a speckle pattern generated by multiple laser beams thanks to the autocorrelation function in intensity.

Genetic mapping of gray leaf spot resistance genes in maize

Lehmensiek, Anke 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (PhD)--Stellenbosch University, 2000. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Gray leaf spot (GLS) of maize, caused by the fungus Cercospora zeae-maydis, can reduce grain yields by up to 60% and it is now recognized as one of the most significant yield-limiting diseases of maize in many parts of the world. The most sustainable and long-term management strategy for GLS will rely heavily on the development of high-yielding, locally adapted GLS resistant hybrids. Molecular markers could be useful to plant breeders to indirectly select for genes affecting GLS resistance and to identify resistance genes without inoculation and at an early stage of plant development. Only two studies in the USA have examined quantitative trait loci (QTL) association with GLS resistance. The aim of this study was to map GLS resistance genes in a resistant Seed Co LTD, Zimbabwean inbred line. Molecular markers linked to the GLS resistance QTL were identified by using the amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) technique together with bulked segregant analysis. Eleven polymorphic AFLP fragments were identified and converted to sequence-specific PCR (polymerase chain reaction) markers. Eight of the 11 converted AFLP markers were added to the maize marker database of the University of Stellenbosch. Five of the 8 converted AFLP markers were polymorphic between the resistant and the susceptible parent. They were amplified on the DNA of 230 plants of a segregating F2 population and linkage analysis was performed with MAPMAKER/EXP. Two linkage groups consisting of two markers each, with a linkage distance of 10.4 cM (LOD 22.83) and 8.2 cM (LOD 55.41) between the two markers, were identified. QTL mapping with MAPMAKER/QTL confirmed the presence of QTL in both linkage groups. Two publicly available recombinant inbred families (Burr et a/., 1988) were used to localize the converted AFLP markers on the genetic map of maize. The QTL, which were identified with the AFLP markers, were mapped to chromosomes 1 and 5. Another AFLP marker was mapped to chromosome 2 and a further to chromosome 3. To obtain more precise localizations of the QTL on chromosomes 1 and 5, sequence-tagged site markers and microsatellite markers were used. The markers were amplified on the DNA of the 230 plants of the F2 population and linkage analysis was performed with MAPMAKER/EXP. The order of the markers was in agreement with the UMC map of the Maize Genome Database. Interval mapping using MAPMAKERlQTL and composite interval mapping using QTL Cartographer were performed. The QTL on chromosome 1 had a LOD score of 21 and was localized in bin 1.05/06. A variance of 37% was explained by the QTL. Two peaks were visible for the QTL on chromosome 5, one was localized in bin 5.03/04 and the other in bin 5.05/06. Both peaks had a LOD score of 5 and 11% of the variance was explained by the QTL. To test the consistency of the detected QTL, the markers flanking each QTL were amplified on selected plants of two F2 populations planted in consecutive years and regression analysis was performed. Both the QTL on chromosome 1 and the QTL on chromosome 5 were detected in these populations. Furthermore, the presence of a QTL on chromosome 3 was confirmed with these populations. A variance of 8 -10% was explained by the QTL on chromosome 3. In this study, a major GLS resistance QTL was thus mapped on chromosomes 1 and two minor GLS resistance QTL were mapped on chromosomes 3 and 5 using a resistant Seed Co LTD, Zimbabwean inbred line. Markers were identified which could be used in a marker-assisted selection program to select for the GLS resistance QTL.

Just $10 A Month: A Television Advertising Campaign / Just ten dollars a month

Mumtaz, Danish Kasim 05 1900 (has links)
This written thesis accompanies three television public service announcement spots. Two of the spots are 60 seconds and one of the spots is 45 seconds in length. I produced this public service television advertising campaign to highlight the issue of child illiteracy in Pakistan and to encourage expatriate and resident Pakistani's to donate to educational charities. A Website created by the filmmaker is promoted in the campaign. This Website provides information about various charities that educate children in Pakistan. Detailed accounts of pre-production, production and post-production of the campaign allow the viewer to comprehend the challenges in producing television campaigns for social causes. Theoretical issues are also discussed, including the causes of illiteracy, the importance and role of social campaigns, the history and uses of propaganda as well as the aesthetic concerns of a public service campaign producer. I discuss the importance of creating the culture of public service campaigns in a third world country like Pakistan, and states that the Pakistani community needs to look inwards to overcome the challenge of illiteracy.

Mykobiota šťovíku krmného / Mycobiota of energy sorrel

Janďourková, Hana January 2015 (has links)
Energy sorrel (Rumex patientia L. x Rumex tianschanicus A. Los.) is a plant with a high yield of above-ground biomass. Because of this, it is grown as energy crop, but in Ukraine it is also important forage crop. Mycobiota has not been examined, even though energy sorrel is grown in the Czech Republic experimentally since 1992 (in agricultural operations since 2001). The aims of this thesis were: to determine the composition of mycobiota of healthy plants and of mycobiota associated with leaf and stem spots, to verify whether fungi isolated from spots can cause these spots and if previously isolated fungus Phomopsis sp. can cause spots. Samples were colected from 4 sites in Czech republic, in three samplings during the vegetation season. Endophytes were isolated from root, stem and leaf. Fungi asociated with spots were isolated from stem and leaf. Fungi were cultivated on 2% malt extract agar and then morphologically determined. From representative strains were isolated DNA and sequences of the ITS region were compared with the GenBank databases, this verified the morphological determination and the sterile species were determined. The most common endophytes were Clonostachys rosea f. rosea, Cladosporium cladosporioides, Rhizopus arrhizus var. arrhizus, Alternaria alternata a Acremonium strictum...
