A Catalog of Reusable Design Decisions for Developing UML/MOF-based Domain-specific Modeling LanguagesHoisl, Bernhard, Sobernig, Stefan, Strembeck, Mark January 2014 (has links) (PDF)
In model-driven development (MDD), domain-specific modeling languages (DSMLs) act as a communication vehicle for aligning the requirements of domain experts with the needs of software engineers. With the rise of the UML as a de facto standard, UML/MOF-based DSMLs are now widely used for MDD. This paper documents design decisions collected from 90 UML/MOF-based DSML projects. These recurring design decisions were gained, on the one hand, by performing a systematic literature review (SLR) on the development of UML/MOF-based DSMLs. Via the SLR, we retrieved 80 related DSML projects for review. On the other hand, we collected decisions from developing ten DSML projects by ourselves. The design decisions are presented in the form of reusable decision records, with each decision record corresponding to a decision point in DSML development processes. Furthermore, we also report on frequently observed (combinations of) decision options as well as on associations between options which may occur within a single decision point or between two decision points. This collection of decision-record documents targets decision makers in DSML development (e.g., DSML engineers, software architects, domain experts). / Series: Technical Reports / Institute for Information Systems and New Media

The St Paul cult in Malta : an evaluation of the contributions of Monsignor Giuseppe De Piro and Saint George Preca / Maria Dolores CannataciCannataci, Maria Dolores January 2014 (has links)
According to tradition, but not definitely corroborated by either historical or archaeological sources, the Maltese islands received their seed of faith in A.D. 60 by the Apostle Paul, when he was on his way to Rome, as recorded in the Acts of the Apostles.
The aim of this study is to examine the background of the cult of St Paul in Malta; to investigate the efforts of Mgr G. De Piro and Fr G. Preca in safeguarding the Roman Catholic faith and the cult of St Paul; specifically their contributions when Malta became a British colony and was placed under a Protestant administration; and whether or not their contributions are still valid today. To achieve this, we will carry an exegetical research of the Acts of the Apostles chapters 27, 28:1-10, historiography, modern literary studies.
The best primary sources to investigate these two personalities are the archives of the Missionary Society of St Paul (MSSP), and of the Society of Christian Doctrine (SDC). These archives provide the core of the authentic findings of the enormous wealth of religious literature these priests were able to produce, as well as the testimonies of both Founders. Their spiritual and theological writings include books, pamphlets, articles, sermons, letters and other religious materials.
When the British settled in Malta (1800-1964), the Maltese were very religious and completely loyal to the Roman Catholic Church, but their religiosity had no sound theological basis. Hence, the majority of the Maltese could have been easily influenced by Protestant proselytism and Freemasonry. Both Mgr De Piro and Fr Preca foresaw the need of a sound catechetical teaching, so that the Roman Catholic faith would be better understood and appreciated. They could read the signs of the times.
Mgr De Piro and Fr Preca provided catechetical information and spiritual literature in Maltese, which were almost non-existent at the time; and groups of lay persons were well trained and educated in religious matters. To understand better how the contributions of Mgr De Piro and Fr Preca were so vital to safeguard the Roman Catholic faith and the cult of St Paul, it was imperative to study the history of the local church during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the socio-political situation, and
the Church-State problems. This study shows the indefatigable work and sacrificial life
led by both Founders and how the Roman Catholic faith was not only saved during the
British administration but also became much stronger.
In the course of this study, we will investigate how the faith of the Maltese and the cult
of St Paul helped to save them from calamities, misery and in time of war; and if the
contributions given by Mgr De Piro and Fr Preca are still valid today where the roots of
Christianity and Christian tradition are being threatened once again. / PhD (Church and Dogma History), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014

St J Page Yako's poetry of prominent peopleStengile, Msuthukazi Nontuthuzelo Unity, Yako, St. J. PageIkhwezi 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA)--University of Stellenbosch, 2002 / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study is divided into five chapters. The first chapter which marks the introductory
chapter deals with the general introduction to the entire study, the scope of the study,
statement of the aim and objectives of this study, also looks at the research methods and
gives St J Page Mbalana Yako's brief biographical sketch. The second chapter provides a
brief theoretical background to the study of poetry. This forms the basis upon which the
entire study will rest as it provides different poetic devices and stylistics, which reveal what
makes poetry.
The third and fourth chapters concentrate on a critical evaluation of Yako's poems. The
poetry, which is presented in these chapters, is selected from Yako's anthology entitled
Ikhwezi. It represents a particular genre from a wide range of poetic forms that Yako has
written. Chapter three concentrates on educators and the achievements of certain
individuals. Chapter four concentrates on traditional leaders. It is in this chapter that Yako
displays his expertise in the use of excellent and appropriate poetic devices and stylistics
in his poetry.
The fifth chapter contains general conclusions drawn from the entire study. Translations
are provided for each poem and are contained in the appendix that is found at the end of
this study, which is immediately followed by the bibliography.
Yako's endeavour to bring light to the nation through poetry is admirable. Further research
will unearth more art and craft in this author's poetry. / AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Hierdie studie is verdeel in vyf hoofstukke. Die eerste hoofstuk bied In algemene inleiding
tot die hele studie. Dit omskryf die omvang van die studie, die doelstelling en oogmerke,

Scottish Augustinians : a study of the regular canonical movement in the kingdom of Scotland, c. 1120-1215Ratcliff, Garrett Bateman January 2013 (has links)
The Augustinian canons have never enjoyed the level of scholarly attention afforded to the monastic and mendicant movements of the central middle ages. This disparity has been particularly acute in the British Isles, despite being its most prolific religious movement. Scholars working in England, Ireland, and Wales have begun to correct this historiographical lacuna. In Scotland, the regular canons have also received comparatively scant attention, and, indeed, have largely been understood on the basis of imported paradigms. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to address a deficiency in Scottish historiography and make a contribution to the growing scholarship on the regular canons in the British Isles. The regular canonical movement is examined within the kingdom of Scotland over the course of roughly a century. Eleven non-congregational houses of regular canons are considered, namely Scone, Holyrood, Jedburgh, St. Andrews, Cambuskenneth, and Inchcolm and the dependencies of Loch Tay, Loch Leven, Restenneth, Canonbie, and St. Mary’s Isle. The kingdom of Scotland provides both a common context, and a diverse milieu, in which to consider the foundation and development of these institutions and the movement as a whole. The chronological parameters have been determined by the foundation of the first house of regular canons in Scotland in c. 1120 and the Fourth Lateran Council in 1215, which had the effect of artificially creating the Order of St Augustine. By examining individual houses separately, as well as in unison, this study seeks to present an integrated picture of the regular canonical movement in the kingdom of Scotland during the period of its organic development from c. 1120 to 1215. The fundamental question concerning the regular canons is the nature of their vocation and their societal function. It has increasingly been recognised that a spectrum of different interpretations of canonical life existed ranging from the active – pastoral, practical, and outward looking – to the contemplative – ascetic, quasi-eremitical, and inward looking – which were all part of the same decentralised religious movement. This thesis attempts to situate the Scottish Augustinians, as far as possible, within this spectrum. It argues that a unique manifestation of the regular canonical movement emerged in the kingdom of Scotland as the result of a range of factors – including shared patrons, leadership, and episcopal support – which had the effect of creating a group identity, and, thereby, a collective understanding of their vocation and role in society. The subject institutions have been particularly fortunate in terms of the quality and variety of the surviving source material. The evidence is comprised principally of charter material, but also includes chronicles and foundation narratives produced by Scottish Augustinians, and these provide an essential supplement. This thesis sheds light on an important group of religious houses in Scotland and on a complex religious movement that is only beginning to be fully understood, and, thus, it is hoped that this study will lay the groundwork for future research.

Text Mining of Supreme Administrative Court JurisdictionsFeinerer, Ingo, Hornik, Kurt January 2007 (has links) (PDF)
Within the last decade text mining, i.e., extracting sensitive information from text corpora, has become a major factor in business intelligence. The automated textual analysis of law corpora is highly valuable because of its impact on a company's legal options and the raw amount of available jurisdiction. The study of supreme court jurisdiction and international law corpora is equally important due to its effects on business sectors. In this paper we use text mining methods to investigate Austrian supreme administrative court jurisdictions concerning dues and taxes. We analyze the law corpora using R with the new text mining package tm. Applications include clustering the jurisdiction documents into groups modeling tax classes (like income or value-added tax) and identifying jurisdiction properties. The findings are compared to results obtained by law experts. / Series: Research Report Series / Department of Statistics and Mathematics

Red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus) Habitat Use in an Urban System; Behavior of Reintroduced Fish in Bayou St. John, New OrleansBrogan, Sunny 14 May 2010 (has links)
Bayou St. John is a degraded water-body located within the City of New Orleans and is the focus of restoration efforts. I tested the ability of reintroduced red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus) to survive in this system and assessed their habitat use and behavior. I tracked 29 red drum fitted with external acoustic radio transmitters to determine if they could survive the degraded habitats and determine their general dispersion within the Bayou. All 29 tagged red drum exhibited post-stocking movement (i.e., survival) and occurred primarily in the northern section of the Bayou (nearest Lake Pontchartrain). To assess habitat use and behavior on a finer scale, a second group of 19 red drum were internally tagged with VEMCO transmitters and movements monitored by four remote receivers. These fish exhibited behavior similar to red drum in natural habitats. Monthly movements changed as temperatures changed but were not influenced by diurnal differences, salinity, or conductivity.
