Generalizace vodních toků metodou částečné prostorové redukce / Simplification of rivers based on the spatial reduction method

Mazur, Dominik January 2020 (has links)
This master thesis is focused on cartography generalization of a rivers using collapse and partial collapse method with the usage of straight skeleton data structure. The proposed method was designed for large scale maps in geographical view and for medium scale maps in cartographic view (till 1 : 100 000). The thesis is focusing on width of a river as stand alone criteria for generalization decision. The presented solution represents set of a criteria which decides on generalization of a river. The presented thesis also solves problematic situations that exist on a river such as islands, junctions, shoulders or bifurcation. The thesis also includes proposed generalization algorithm which is using straight skeleton data structure. The algorithm is implemented in C++ programming language in Microsoft Visual Studio IDE. The algorithm uses external libraries Qt and CGAL (Computational Geometry Algorithms Library) for functioning. Algorithm results are saved in ESRI geodatabase with the usage of Python 2.7 programming language and external library ArcPy. Water areas from ZABAGED were chosen as appropriate data for testing. Achieved results of generalization are presented on test data for various scales and they are compared with base maps of Czech Republic. Keywords: digital cartography, cartography...

Pseudoplastic entry flow in straight and convergent channels

Larocque, Jacques 04 1900 (has links)
<p> Power law fluids are analysed for entry flow in straight and converging channels in their pseudoplastic region (0.0≤n≤1.0). The motion and energy equations simplified by the boundary layer assumptions were solved by an implicit finite difference scheme with a marching procedure. To circumvent the difficulties arising from an infinite viscosity at zero shear rate, a minimum value of shear rate was used making the fluid newtonian at low shear rates. </p> <p> Entrance flows between parallel plates of infinite width (Slit) for uniform entry profile are discussed in Part I and converging flows for non-parallel flat plates is the subject of Part II of this work. Results are compared with their equivalent in the current literature for the newtonian case; new results are presented for non-newtonian fluids. These results include velocity and temperature profiles, pressure drops, Nusselt number, and entry lengths as a function of the flow behavior index (n) and the taper angle. </p> / Thesis / Master of Engineering (ME)

Is proposal includes both the criticism towards mass media and capitalist-rooted consumer society , spreading idiosyncratic values. Assuming a antisystemic approach, it also builds own paths of consumerism, both symbolic and material. It is also to be noted, yet, a strong communicational and technological basis of this movement, which complexly articulates local, regional and global flows. Through a multi-methodological emphasis documental research, bibliographic revision, observation with ethnographic approach the thesis aims to spot within the speeches and narratives of the youngsters the acting line and movement impacts in terms of tendencies and/or new approaches towards the upraising interaction among mediatic cultures and consumerist cultures.

Straight Line detection revisited: Through the eyes of the spider.

Costa, Felipe Miney Gonçalves da 06 July 1999 (has links)
Vision is a process that involves a large amount of information that need to be somehow optimized to allow efficient processing. Most of the visual information is contained in the contours of an image and a considerable reduction in the amount of data can be achieved by fmding and processing these contours. The next step to further compress the visual data is to fmd straight segments, and represent the contours in terms of these entities. Straight-line segment detection is performed by the human visual system, as well as by other creatures. Among terrestrial invertebrates, the best visual system is that of the Salticidae family of spiders, also known as jumping spiders. This visual system presents some characteristics that facilitate the detection of straight-lines. The present work proposes a new method for straight-line detection, based on the visual system of the jumping spiders, using linear windows. This method approach the straight-line detection problem through an optimization point of view yet unexplored in literature. The detection will be accomplished in a parameter space, using the \"Downhill Simplex\" maximization algorithm. The method considers the discrete nature of both the image and the parameter spaces, and this work includes a detailed analysis of these discrete spaces. The method also incorporates, to adequately deal with the specific characteristics of the problem, resources such as \"Simulated Annealing\" and adaptive width of the linear windows. The performance of the method depends on a set of parameters, which behavior is hard to predict, and the choice of an adequate set was made using a genetic algorithm. The work also involves the project and construction of a prototype, to evaluate the proposed method. Results were analyzed regarding their precision, processing time and the movements of the linear windows, related to the effort made to detect the straight lines.

Behaviour of inclined, tapered and STS square CFST stub columns subjected to axial load

Lam, Dennis, Dai, Xianghe, Han, L-H., Ren, Q-X., Li, W. January 2012 (has links)
This paper describes the finite element method using ABAQUS to model the axial compressive behaviour of inclined, tapered and straight-tapered-straight (STS) concrete filled steel tubular stub (CFST) columns with square hollow sections. The accuracy of the numerical model was verified by comparing the numerical predictions with experimental study of the 200×200×3.75 RHS filled with C60 concrete with inclined angle of 0-9° and tapered angle of 0-4°. The results show that the compressive behaviours, load vs. strain relationship and failure mode predicted by the numerical simulations were agreeable with experimental results. After the validation, a parametric study was performed with 3 typical steel hollow sections (200×200×3.75 RHS, 300×300×6.3 RHS and 400×400×8.0 RHS) and extended the inclined angle and tapered angle to 0-15° and 0-12° respectively. The parametric study highlights some of the behaviour observed in test and extends the application range. In addition, reduction factor for calculating the axial capacity of this form of CFST columns are proposed.
