The relationship of student-environment fit and physical self-efficacy in university wellness residence halls

Degraff, Annette Mary January 1990 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between student-environment fit and physical self-efficacy among female undergraduate students living in the Trane and Tichenor wellness residence halls at Ball State University. This study examined the following questions: 1) What is the degree of fit experienced by female students living in the Trane and Tichenor wellness residence halls?, and 2) Is there a relationship between student-environment fit and physical self-efficacy? Student-environment fit is necessary for a student's happiness, satisfaction, and achievement. Physical self-efficacy is an important component of positive self-concept and has been correlated with the healthy development of an individual. Data on student-environment fit was collected using the University Residence Environment Scale. The Physical Self-Efficacy Scale was used to collect data on the students' perceptions of their physical ability and self-presentation confidence. Statistical analysis of the data revealed: 1) significant t-scores for the degree of fit experienced by female students in Trane and Tichenor wellness residence halls, and 2) a significant correlation between the total student-environment fit score and the total physical self-efficacy score as well as a significant correlation for the URES subscales of Academic Achievement and Intellectuality with the total physical self-efficacy score. / Department of Home Economics

Temporary housing : A new product as student housing

Cong, Jinzhou January 2018 (has links)
Housing shortage is sweeping over Nordic countries, where college/university students has involved in this housing crisis. More innovative housing solutions are appealed to buffer housing shortage and supply affordable housing for students. The existence of module housing and container housing in a number of Nordic municipalities has come into being a new housing term: temporary housing. At the same time, students’ housing expenditure has influence on their financial strain, and students’ housing location affects student involvement on campus. The design of temporary housing aims to cope with housing shortage. This study intends to figure out an ideal temporary housing with a great rent in order to alleviate students’ financial strain, a good location so as to enhance the level of student involvement, and a satisfactory housing type for purpose of meeting students’ housing preference. To understand students’ view of temporary housing, Cockerham’s theory of health and lifestyle is applied to develop “living condition” in student group. A self-administered questionnaire in quantitative research is conducted, and with a case study element as well. The survey groups centers on college/university students so that this study is following a down-up perspective. Finally, based on students’ feelings and opinion, an ideal temporary housing is depicted as a new product in student housing. This ideal temporary housing is discussed in relation to variables, such as an acceptable rent, good housing location and pleasant housing type.

Habitar o campus : residências universitárias modernas no Brasil

Ramos, Renata Santiago January 2012 (has links)
The matter of collective housing represents an essential proposition and criticism point in the modern tradition. Important urban projects from the 20th century include large territorial extensions, focusing on financial and intellectual efforts in sectors destined to the housing activity, reflecting its important role concerning the implementation of new ideas. From the premise that housing is the main vector of trial, implementation and dissemination of the principles of modern architecture, this thesis discusses the deployment of this theme in a specific environment: university cities. This thesis seeks to understand the housing role in the organization of the campuses, showing the relevance of the residential sets in this context and the aspects concerning its conception. In general, the modern university cities reproduce the organization ways adopted in the towns’ planning and, in reduced scale, they have different typologies and functions correlated. Historically, the university cities represent a favorable field to the experimentation of new ideas and technologies since they, in general, deal with constructions established in large areas, with complex development plans, which must consider the didactic principles and the values of the institutions. The presence of the residential sectors is essential in the implementation of a space called city, by the fundamental role historically exercised by the housing program in the formation of the urban set. In the specific context of the higher education spaces, the existence of the residential sector permits the concentration of all resources in only one space, being especially important for the campuses situated far away from the urban centers. Among the existing works on the student housing theme, there is an approach to some international paradigms as introductory source. The focus of this study is directed to some of the main Brazilian built or in project level cases, with the purpose of contributing to the elaboration of a more concise presentment on this theme in the country. The further study of construction in Brazil brings the identification of remarkable cases in the scope of university cities which, in a wider way, figure as pragmatic, formal and technical experimentation possibilities in the production of modern Brazilian housing.

Student housing registration and placement inefficiencies at a South African university

Sebokedi, Zukiswa Lynette January 2009 (has links)
Thesis (MTech (Quality))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2009. / As higher education is increasingly becoming globalised, quality assurance is one of the most important mechanisms that can be used to ensure the competitiveness of higher education institutions in South Africa. The competitive market place both in private and public higher education sectors, require people at all level in an organisation to think of ways to continuously improve their products or service that they deliver to customers. This can only be achieved within higher education institution if staff and management can demonstrate their commitment to quality improvement through their active contribution to outstanding performance. By providing higher quality service to students, contribute to the positive assessment of the university in its services rendered to its clients. This research seeks to determine the inefficiencies that impact adversely on service delivery as identified in the student housing registration and placement system, and to investigate ways of continuously improving the various processes and procedures. The primary research objectives of this study include the following: > To review the current student housing registration and placement system. > To determine client satisfaction as it relates to the current student housing registration and placement system. > To investigate and design an improved student housing registration and placement system that is efficient, workable, fast and user-friendly. > To develop a mechanism to continuously improve the quality of the system. It is anticipated that the research will lead to an improvement of student housing registration and placement application processes, which in tum will contribute to the overall improvement of service delivery. Furthermore it will enhance communication with the students and staff involved in the registration and placement process.
