The literature review findings indicated the importance of administrative leadership and support being essential for the implementation of co-teaching. Therefore, the two research questions for this qualitative study focused on administrative practices that support co-teaching. The two research questions for this qualitative research study were a) What are the leadership practices of principals, as perceived by general education teachers, in support of co-teaching as a service delivery model in high schools? and b) What are the leadership practices of principals, as perceived by special education teachers, in support of co-teaching as a service delivery model in high schools? This research study utilized a qualitative phenomenological research approach which was an interview protocol used to collect data from high school general and special education teachers participating in the study. The criteria for participation included: a) high school general and special education teachers currently participating or had participated in a collaborative co-teaching team model servicing students with disabilities, and b) high school general and special education teachers participating or had previously participated in a collaborative co-teaching team model servicing students with disabilities in core-content areas. The findings for school divisions and high school principals are common vision, expectations for co-teaching, ongoing, job-embedded professional development, and amenities that support co-teaching. The findings in this study resulted in five implications for school divisions and high school principals. Implications for practice were provided at the conclusion of the study and focused on identifying the practices of principal leadership, as perceived by general and special education teachers, in support of co-teaching in high schools. Also, suggestions for future research were addressed in this study. / Doctor of Education / The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to identify perceptions of high school general and special education teachers regarding principal leadership practices in support of co-teaching as a service delivery model in high schools. As far as the field research is concerned, a questionnaire is applied to students with disabilities in UFC undergraduate courses. The main results obtained were: the architectural accessibility structure of the UFC does not fully comply with the legislation that regulates the subject, the Accessibility Law, since it does not have all its environments with adequate structure to receive students with disabilities; Most of the actions and services offered by the Accessibility Secretariat of the UFC are known by students with disabilities, although of this group, most signaled never to have used, actions even addressed to all the deficiencies. The survey revealed that 78% of students reported that "never", "rarely" and "sometimes" felt equal on equal terms, which we consider to be strongly related to human barriers, which were pointed out by students as the most Accentuated. The main criticism of students facing human barriers was not to feel their rights respected and the non-recognition of their abilities.

Made available in DSpace on 2017-07-10T18:56:12Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Santa_Terezinha.pdf: 700877 bytes, checksum: e85562114fea8ca88a71de2967a646df (MD5) Previous issue date: 2008-03-18 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This research was carried out with the aim to investigate the facilitators and the inhibitors in the teacher‟s speech, when he/she exposes the content on the board, in an inclusive class with the presence of visually disabled students. Among the barriers is the use of deictic expressions, mainly spatial deictics, when visual resources are used to decode the referents. As for the facilitators, the most important is the verbalization of those referents pointed by the teacher, that is, when the teacher brings the object under focus to orality. For this study, three secondary education schools were selected, questionnaires were applied to the teachers and some classes were observed, characterizing an ethnographic research. After data transcription, analyses were carried out, and we discussed some possible ways to conduct the teaching-learning process in a successful way. For supporting our discussions, we carried out a study on deixis, as well as on the person with visual disability (blind or with low vision) and the spaces occupied by him/her in the society and at school.
