Image structures : from augmented reality to image stylization / Structure d'une image : de la réalité augmentée à la stylisation

Chen, Jiazhou 12 July 2012 (has links)
In this thesis we consider in general image structures and more specifically, imagegradient and contours. They have been proven useful in recent years for variouscomputer graphics applications, such as Augmented Reality (AR), image and videostylization. The goal of analyzing image structures is to describe a high level understandingof image contents and to provide a powerful support to improve thequality of applications, such as visual legibility, accuracy, spatial and temporal coherence. We first demonstrate the important role of image structures in Focus+Contextcompositing. For Focus+Context rendering in AR, a technique dedicated to the visualizationof hidden scenes in video streams, the use of screen segmentation andfeature lines significantly emphasizes the depth cues of occluded scenes, and revealsthe correct occluding order. For importance-driven image synthesis, multiplerendering styles are combined in a coherent manner by using image gradient fieldand saliency map.In the second part, we thus introduce a new approach to estimate a continuousgradient field without oversmoothing the original details contained in an image. For this purpose, we develop a new and higher-order local approximation methodof discrete non-oriented gradient fields based on a moving least square (MLS) formalism. We show that our isotropic linear approximation outperforms classicalstructure tensor: image details are better preserved and instabilities are significantlyreduced. We demonstrate how our non-oriented MLS gradient field benefitsto various image stylization approaches. Finally, we demonstrate that the use of a feature profile analysis for image lineextraction via fitting techniques permits to distinguish sharp and smooth features.Profile parameters are then mapped to stylistic parameters such as brush orientation, size or opacity to give rise to a wide range of line-based styles.

Motivy, obrazy a (auto)stylizace českého dekadentního symbolismu / Motifs, Images and (self)-Stylizations of Czech Decadent Symbolism

Fremrová, Anna January 2020 (has links)
This thesis is focused on the decadent form of Czech symbolist literature at the turn of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The main task is to present a complex catalogue of motifs and images used by Czech decadents in their works and also to analyse the main methods and strategies they used - in particular interstatuality, also connected with the decadent effort to capture the uniqueness of each passing moment, and synaesthesia. The thesis also focuses on the radical individualism of decadent authors and its connection with both the motifs used and the symbolist style in itself - in the form of self-stylization of the decadent authors who tend to identify with their own works and become (even in real life) their own literal subjects. Because of the prominent visual aspect of decadent literature, the thesis also takes into consideration contemporary art works and the relations between words and images.

Another way of defining NPR is that it is the processing of scenes, images or videos into artwork, generating scenes, images or videos that can have the visual appeal of pieces of art, expressing the visual and emotional characteristics of artistic styles. This dissertation presents a new method of NPR for stylization of images and videos, based on a typical artistic expression of the Northeast region of Brazil, that uses colored sand to compose landscape images on the inner surface of glass bottles. This method is comprised by one technique for generating 2D procedural textures of sand, and two techniques that mimic effects created by the artists using their tools. It also presents a method for generating 21 2D animations in sandbox from the stylized video. The temporal coherence within these stylized videos can be enforced on individual objects with the aid of a video segmentation algorithm. The present techniques in this work were used on stylization of synthetic and real videos, something close to impossible to be produced by artist in real life / Renderiza??o N?o Fotoreal?stica (NPR) ? uma classe de t?cnicas que almejam reproduzir t?cnicas art?sticas, tentado expressar sentimentos e emo??es nas cenas renderizadas, dando um aspecto de que foram feitas "manualmente".

Přestupný rok - Disiecta membra - Let let / The Forms of Autobiography. Přestupný rok - Disiecta membra - Let let

Stejskalová, Anna January 2016 (has links)
This doctoral thesis is concerned with autobiographical forms, their general characteristics as well as with three examples of Czech works of art that prove how difficult it is to make that general characteristics and show various kinds of autobiographical narrative. It aims to show the often heterogeneous character of the so- called autobiographical genres, and present some approaches in their study. In the opening chapter, we define the term autobiography or autobiographical form in regard to literary history and theory, and special attention to Czech research in this field. We concentrate on the genre specifics of autobiographical forms, the opposition of "literary" and "authentic" diary, the term "autobiographical pact" coined by Philippe Lejeune and several patterns of autobiographical memory introduced by James Olney. The key aspect of our study is the nature of autobiographical form derived from the subject's style and illocutionary acts, i. e. stylization as defined by John Searle followed by Jean Starobinski or Paul de Man. Out of the wide spectrum of issues connected with autobiography we focus on the description of the subject's narrative structure, mainly on its language, style, frequent motifs, its memory and relationship to other characters in its text. The complexity of the very...

Samota uprostřed davu: Charles Baudelaire a umění 20. století a současnosti / Alone in a Crowd: Charles Baudelaire and 20th-Century and Contemporary Art

Jirátová, Kristýna January 2018 (has links)
Alone in a Crowd: Charles Baudelaire and 20th-Century and Contemporary Art The dissertation called Alone in a Crowd explores the influence of the poet Charles Baudelaire's personality and work on 20th-century and contemporary art. Due to the field of study, the main focus is on the visual arts, but literature, music, philosophy, and film are also included to a large extent. This dissertation is divided into four substantive chapters. The first chapter, The Inner Message, introduces the poet's life, his family and acquaintances, as well as Baudelaire's poetry collection The Flowers of Evil. Themes of evil, ugliness, fear, death, and even a relationship to their mother, father and women are common for 20th-century and contemporary artists. This chapter presents Félicien Rops, James Ensor, Edvard Munch, Hans Bellmer, Francis Bacon, Joel-Peter Witkin, Kurt Cobain, members of the Young British Artists group, Lars von Trier, and others. The second chapter pursues the correspondence theory. The character of the Swedish philosopher Emanuel Swedenborg and his successor, William Blake, is followed by Baudelaire's understanding of sensual and spiritual correspondences, as his principles are adopted by modern artists in a distinct manner. The third chapter called "On the Edge of Society" covers the curse...

Věčné jinošství Jiřího Karáska ze Lvovic / The Eternal Boyhood of Jiří Karásek ze Lvovic

Kolařík, Karel January 2012 (has links)
The thesis attempts to describe the life and work of Jiří Karásek ze Lvovic through an analysis of his lifestyle, i.e. the way in which he organized, embellished and individualized his life. Karásek sought to shape his existence as an artwork, in accordance with the inspirational concepts of the contemporary and antecedent thinkers and artists (e.g. Oscar Wilde, Walter Pater and Maurice Maeterlinck). He accented its integrity and orientation towards beauty. In accord with his aesthetic vision (and his literary work) Karásek conditioned beauty with sadness and pain and attempted to emphasize melancholic beauty, unity in disunion. For that purpose he would accentuate particularly the disintegrative, critical elements, evoking the impression of unsuccessful, self-destructive endeavor to reach life's high ideal. This corresponded with his tragic concept of the artist immolating himself for his Art. I approach Karásek's lifestyle through the use of the terms youth and (eternal) boyhood, which Karásek himself employed as symbols of mournfully beautiful existence in his literary work. I define a youth - in accordance with the romantic and symbolist interpretation - as a person at odds with reality (contemporary truths, customs and rules), a solitary, unique being, trying to construct a new world - only...

Překlad prostředků mluvenosti v beletrii. Stoletá historie překladu Maupassantovy povídky Ivrogne. / Translation of Colloquial Language Devices in Fiction: A Century of Maupassant's Ivrogne in Czech Translation

Mundevová, Lenka January 2016 (has links)
Lenka Mundevová Translation of Colloquial Language Devices in Fiction: A Century of Maupassant's Ivrogne in Czech Translation Abstract The dissertation compares the stylization of the dialogues in the French original of Maupassant's short story Ivrogne (The Drunkard), written in 1884, with five Czech translations published between 1902 and 1997. The comparative analysis is focused on the devices of colloquial language, including dialect, which appear frequently in the dialogues of the story and prove to be extraordinarily useful when interpreting Maupassant's text. The analysis of the excerpted material is preceded by the description of the basic characteristics of colloquial French and Czech, followed by the description of their stratifications. The mutual relation of the colloquial language varieties is an important prerequisite for the evaluation of the translations of colloquial language devices and their appropriateness in the individual Czech versions of Ivrogne. The paper also deals with the development of Czech aesthetic translation standards and their relation to the standard of local fiction, outlining the important tendencies of Czech fiction translation applied when colloquial devices were conveyed from French to Czech during the specified timeframe. The individual language devices used in the...
