Generalized models and benchmarks for channel coordination

Toptal, Aysegul 30 September 2004 (has links)
This dissertation takes into account the latest industrial trends in integrated logistical management and focuses on recent supply chain initiatives enabling the coordination of supply chain entities. The specific initiatives of interest rely on carefully designed transportation and supply contracts such as Vendor Managed Inventory applications. With such new initiatives, substantial savings are realizable by carefully coordinating the operational decisions, such as procurement, transportation, inventory, and production decisions, for different cooperating entities in the supply chain. The impact is particularly tangible when coordinated policies address channel coordination issues between these entities. This dissertation first provides a critical review and comparative analysis of the literature on buyer-vendor coordination problems. Recognizing a need for analytical research in the field, the dissertation then develops and solves centralized and decentralized models for complex buyer-vendor coordination problems with applications in supply/replenishment and transportation/delivery contract design. The two specific classes of problems considered include i) buyer-vendor coordination under generalized replenishment costs, and ii) buyer-vendor coordination under depreciating economic value of items. Under these considerations, the dissertation also develops efficient coordination algorithms and new mechanisms for effective channel coordination.

Contribuição ao estudo do fator risco no desempenho de organizações e cadeias de suprimentos / Contribution to the study of risk factor in the performance of organizations and supply chains.

Aguiar, Edson Cezar 17 September 2010 (has links)
A tese identifica possíveis tópicos para pesquisa futura nesta área de crescente interesse / This thesis exams the risk phenomenon in organizations and supply chains. It focuses on understanding and showing the relations between the many types of risks impinging the supply chain and on verifying their influence on the performance. Through the identification of risk factors which cause disturbances and interruptions and which influence the results, the development of an overall and comprehensive construct for the risk in supply chains was sought. This construct was supported by theories such as Systems Theory, Transaction Cost Economics, Agency Theory, Resource Dependence Theory and Resource-Based Theory. The performance was operationalized using the Balanced Score Card for Supply Chains. The study is multi-industry and relied on a survey. It was also based on a comprehensive literature review, which allowed for an adaptation of a framework that acts as guidance in the study of risk in organizations and supply chains. The study was undertaken in 2010 and he sample consists of 234 companies in southern Brazil. The statistical data treatment relied on a multivariate canonic correlation technique. The results obtained reinforce the idea that risks affect the performance of organizations and supply chains. The risk and performance constructs were analyzed by applying the multivariate statistical technique known as factor analysis, leading to the conclusion that it is possible to determine the main risk and performance constructs for the responding companies. The prevailing risk factors found are related to globalization and a competing atmosphere, to the structure and design of supply chains and to interest conflicts. Such risk factors, in sum, are those that require special attention from managers and which constitute the risk construct for the companies studied. The performance perspective most impacted by risk factors is that of the client. The present thesis identifies potential subjects for future research in this discipline of increasing interest

Korrmann, Franziska January 2011 (has links)
This paper is directed at discussing some of the management issues, problems and solutions of logistics in the context of offshored productive activities The introduction includes a discussion of the logistics topics and an introduction of the economic logic of offshoring. The main part analyses the logistics topics with regard to the internationally fragmented production. The topics of logistics include: Information flow and integration, transportation, inventory management, warehousing and materials management, packaging management, customer service, risk management, logistics strategies and supply chain design. For each of the discussed topics a company or industry example is given to illustrate the applications. The analysis is based on a review of the existing academic literature in each of these fields.
