Symbolic Interpretation of Legacy Assembly Language

Chowdhury, Pulak Kumar 18 August 2005 (has links)
<p> Many industries have legacy software systems which are definitely important to them but are however, difficult to maintain due to a lack of understanding of those systems. This occurs as a result of inadequate or inconsistent documentation. Although the costs of redesigning the system may be large, some organizations still plan to reverse engineer the software specification documents from the code to alleviate a large burden from such endeavour. This thesis provides an incremental and modular approach to create a process and tools to extract the semantics of legacy assembly code.</p> <p> Our techniques consist of static analysis and symbolic interpretation in order to reverse engineer the semantics of legacy software. We examine the case of IBM-1800 programs in detail. From the abstract model of the operational semantics of IBM-1800, we simultaneously obtain an emulator and a symbolic analysis process. Augmented with control flow information, we can use the symbolic analysis to provide complete semantics for the code sequences of interest. We can also generate Data Flow Graphs to depict the flow of data in those code segments. The whole process of extracting semantic information from the assembler codes is fully automated with only a little human intervention at the initial step.</p> <p> We use Haskell as our implementation language and its important features help us to create modular and well structured software. The literate programming documentation style in this thesis increases the readability and consistency of the implementation's documentation.</p> <p> The process and the associated tools created in this thesis are used in a large reverse engineering project, which has a goal to extract requirements specification from legacy assembly code. This project is funded jointly by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and CITO (Communications and Information Technology Ontario).</p> / Thesis / Master of Applied Science (MASc)

The scientific and interpretive occurrences music on Amazon are still a significant lack from the point of view of music history. In order to identify instances of Amazon in the work of Arnaldo Rebello, we proceeded to catalog the compositional output for piano, the songs list and locate the performances of this composer as pianist, teacher, published in Brazilian music. Understanding of the state of the field and habitus in which interacted the composer was the theoretical and methodological basis for the unveiling the options of compositional networks and Amazonian conceptions built up from the social. Of multiple interpretations of Amazon we analyze the pianistic repertoire, localizing sounds, people and landscapes in which the composer was influenced. With also the influences of the music scene at the time composed especially by metal bands from Manaus to the early 20th century and the intense activity old-fashioned compared piano. We conclude that synaesthetic Amazon is very present in this repertoire the sonorities, colors, flavors and sounds, as well as relations of Arnaldo Rebello sociabilities, present in the titles, in dedications, and especially in sonorities that are presented, as well as its placement in the musical field and in several instances of validation.

Feminist Statements in Fashion Marketing : and Their Affect on Brand Image

Ward Gustavsson, Julia, Wollbeck, Maximilian January 2016 (has links)
Sweden is moving towards a society where not being a feminist is considered unmodern and conservative. People are fighting for women's rights and equality between the sexes. This feminist movement in Sweden is starting to show in more and more businesses. The fashion business has recently adapted the same movement and feminism has been used in different types of marketing, such as gender neutral merchandising or statement advertisements. The focus of this thesis is statements on products and the purpose is to investigate how Swedish consumers’ brand image of a high end fashion brand is affected by the brand using symbols of feminist statements on their products. The theoretical framework has been separated into three categories; Brand Image, Consumer Behaviour and Politics in Fashion, which sums up in a conceptual model. The model is tested in the empirical findings that were discovered through two focus groups. Consumers critical minds and high awareness of companies advertising techniques results in the conclusion that consumers demand more political effort in order to trust and accept the statement, apparently an important factor when it comes to change of brand image.

Les sculptures Pucara, Andes centrales, 500 av. J.-C./300 ap. J.-C. : archéologie comparative d'une dynamique culturelle de l'Altiplano / The Pucara Stone Sculptures, Central Andes, 500 B.C./300 A.D. : comparative archaeology of a cultural dynamic for the Altiplano

Cuynet, François 05 December 2012 (has links)
This thesis introduces an innovative approach for the Altiplano’s sculptures study of the pre-hispanic times. Focusing on the lithic elements produced by the Pucara culture, our conception of the Andean world is revisited. After the reminder of anterior works and lacks that remain, a complete redefinition of the Pucara phenomenon is given. For that, we use the important quantity of unpublished elements, recorded during our research journeys in this region. In the same way, a more global comparative study is realized, including the whole affiliated styles: Yaya-Mama, Tiahuanaco and also Khonkho Wankane. Thus, we revisit all the cultural overview of this Andean region. Following, we make a precise description of the stylistic criteria specifics to each culture, as well as the elaboration of strict creation standards. However, at the same time, the cultural continuity existing in each phenomenon is highlighted. We come up to a relative chronology of the Pucara sculptures and for the entire Lake Titicaca basin, while demonstrating the existence of transition phases. These elements break radically with the current theory that states a sudden disappearance of the Pucara culture. With this new vision, we propose a symbolical reading of the iconography shown on these artifacts. By our profound analysis, the Pucara phenomenon is taken out of its isolation. In fact, we illustrate how the Pucara sculptures express a pan Andean tradition while keeping a strong regional identity.
