Among cats, between cemeteries, and inside morgues

Unknown Date (has links)
thesis is written with the intent to connect work I have created since writing The Wandering Womb: a cultural history of outrageous beliefs about women. It began as a collage of stories, poetry, images and memories. I intended to funnel this accumulation of mental maps, unusual vistas and events, poetic moments of inertia, into an alembic that would yield a unique residue, but it boiled over and only words remain. The starting point of these experiences took me to back rooms of museums, morgues, surgical suites and special collections libraries throughout the world to explore the stuff of curiosity. Martin Buber (1878-1965) allegedly, but not verifiably, is quoted as writing, "All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware." Cats in cemeteries, sixteenth century anatomy books, babies in bottles, two headed calves, and chapels constructed from bones are but a few of the marvelous destinations I have discovered. / by Lana Thompson. / Thesis (M.F.A.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2010. / Includes bibliography. / Electronic reproduction. Stormland

Unknown Date (has links)
The narrative within this thesis follows events that transpire within a working class neighborhood over the span of three decades. The time and place in which these events occur, South Florida 1979-1989, lends itself to exploring themes such as race, class, addiction, the fragmentation of community, and the effects of these issues on the families that live there. Stylistically, the story makes three significant shifts in order to foreground each decade's dissimilarity. These shifts intentionally disrupt reader expectation while a coherent narrative thread unifies the work, rendering it fragmented yet complete. / by Adam Ferguson. / Thesis (M.F.A.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2010. / Electronic reproduction. La création virtuelle dans le jeu vidéo : un outil de travail clinique. Sortie du mutisme adolescent par sa progéniture virtuelle / Virtual Creation in video games : a tool for clinical work. Overcoming adolescent mutism through one’s “virtual offspring”

Hajji, Michel 08 June 2018 (has links)
This entails a research project which arose in response to a need in clinical work with several young adolescents from diverse backgrounds exhibiting “selective mutism”. Their refusal to speak on the psychologist's couch posed a challenge in therapy. We therefore created a mediation apparatus composed of a life simulation video game and a fictional genogram. We attempted to demonstrate that the teenagers in question can recover verbal symbolization not requiring access to the real version of their family histories which are at the root of the problem. Fictional creativity and the interpersonal work with the psychologist can suffice. Theories on symbolism and subjectivation as well as trans-generational psychoanalysis are at the heart of the notions which allowed us to understand and to conceptualize the process we put in practice
