The Effects of Educational Delivery Methods on Knowledge Retention

Turner, Craig, Turner, Kyle Dean 04 July 2017 (has links)
In today's dynamic learning environment, educational delivery methods have become increasingly diverse. Using a unique opportunity to assess three types of course delivery—face-to-face, interactive television (iTV), and purely online delivery—the authors look at both initial knowledge acquisition and the retention of this knowledge. The results indicate that the online class outperformed the face-to-face and iTV sections on the initial performance evaluation; however, knowledge retention was greater in the face-to-face and iTV sections. The authors' findings suggest that diverse educational delivery methods provide unique benefits to students, but these benefits vary in relation to immediate learning outcomes and knowledge retention.

A Comparison of an Inductive and a Deductive Procedure of Teaching in a College Mathematics Course for Prospective Elementary Teachers

Morris, James Kent 12 1900 (has links)
To obtain information regarding the effects of two divergent thought processes used in a college mathematics course for prospective elementary school teachers, this study compared the effectiveness of an adaptation of the traditional, deductive teaching method with that of an inductive method reflecting the recommendations of the Committee on the Undergraduate Program in Mathematics. In the spring semester of 1973, two sections of Mathematics for Elementary Teachers I, at Cameron College, Lawton, Oklahoma, served as experimental groups to test the two adaptations. The course followed the Committee on the Undergraduate Program in Mathematics recommendations for a first course in mathematics for prospective elementary teachers.

Využití aktivizujícícíh výukových metod při výuce výchovy ke zdraví / Using of activating teaching methods in the teaching subject of Health Education

Malinová, Kamila January 2016 (has links)
TITLE: The using of activating teaching methods in the teaching subject of Health Education AUTHOR: Bc. Kamila Malinová, DiS. DEPARTMENT: Pedagogy Department SUPERVISOR: PaedDr. Eva Marádová, CSc. ABSTRACT: The diploma thesis deals with the use of activating teaching methods in health education lessons. In its theoretical part, the thesis defines the concept of the teaching method, draws attention to the function of teaching methods in class, and presents a classification of methods of individual authors while providing a deeper insight into the activating methods that are first introduced in the historical context and then attention is paid to their benefits as well as drawbacks, the positive contribution of these methods in the educational process and, last but not least, the activating teaching methods are compared with the traditional methods. Individual activating teaching methods are then examined in more detail. The conclusion of the theoretical part is dedicated to the integration of health education into the Framework Educational Programme for primary and lower secondary schools. The aim of the practical part is to identify what the limiting as well as the motivating factors are for teachers in using the activating teaching methods during health education classes with second grade pupils of Prague...

Dětské hry a hračky jako pomůcky ve výuce chemie / Games and Toys as Chemistry Teaching Aids

Dubská, Martina January 2011 (has links)
The thesis is devoted to the study of one of the methods of activation - the game. During the game, the students are involved actively, they are motivated and creative. The main aim is to explore the advantages of the introduction of gaming activities in the teaching of chemistry, as well as the overall topic of gaming activities, the conditions for these activities in chemistry teaching and suggestions for their implementation in education. The part of the thesis is complex of 11 precific games and toys, which are prepared for teaching chemistry at the primary and high schools and universities uncommonly. This file contains the rules, methodological instructions, time allocation, and everything needed for the teaching of games. The practical part will also find a list of many previously published and unpublished games and toys, which can serve as inspiration for teachers of chemistry. Making an inquiry carried out in two elementary schools to confirm the presumption that the study results achieved through gaming activities, are more satisfactory than the results, in which gaming activities were not used.

A comparison between the effects of Keller Plan and traditional teaching methods on structure of learning outcomes among tertiary mathematics students.

Freislich, Mary R. January 1997 (has links)
The goal of the present project was to evaluate a mastery learning teaching method in mathematics for engineering undergraduates. Many mathematics teachers are very dissatisfied with the level of understanding displayed by students who pass traditional examinations. The Keller Plan requires mastery demonstrated by almost perfect performance on a sequence of tests which students repeat until they reach the high standard required. The study compared students in the same mathematics subject in the year before a change to Keller Plan teaching, and in the year of the change. Achievement scores, defined in terms of the completeness and consistency of solutions to test problems on the whole of the syllabus, were higher for the Keller Plan group. Measures of attitudes and approaches to study, which were positively related to achievement, indicated that the Keller Plan group had stronger intrinsic motivation, and more diligent study methods. Their confidence tended to be lower than that of the traditionally taught group, but was not low in absolute, and appreciation of the greater challenge of the Keller Plan appeared to be worked out via diligence. Students felt that individual work in the Keller Plan was a better use of time than attending traditional lectures.

The Research of ¡§Integration between Information Technology and Education¡¨ To Develop the Minds for Kids and Young People

Hung, Li-yu 09 September 2009 (has links)
This research is mainly by the 13 years experience in education system which is outside the authoritative information education system with kids and young people. Besides to construct the kids and young people apparent ability of information science and technology, the goal in the research is to research the hidden knowledge of the information science & technology which combines in the education. The research wants to clarify many presently myths of information education. And also wants to provide more efficiency and happy learning mode. The research is based on the book of Howard Gardner (2007)¡mFive Minds for the Future¡n. It takes ¡§Disciplined Mind¡¨, ¡§Synthesizing Mind¡¨, ¡§ Creating Mind¡¨, ¡§Respectful Mind¡¨, ¡§ Ethical Mind¡¨ as the main theory construction. To study student's minds development condition who is graduated from high school or university. And the comparison of minds growth condition of the junior high student who are joining in the competition. The findings discovered: To develop intelligences and minds of kids and young people on integration of Information Technology and the Education is not only constructed the basic information technology ability, and it can promote on the child body's instructive, self-confidence, independent exploration, spontaneous study within 2-3 years. Kids and young people almost were constructed and applied the abilities under the project-based works, and extend the top level for the minds and abilities, like the system thinking, problem solving, communication, the leadership. The special experience with five minds raises and the construction is being related. Ethics mind of the five minds must be in Disciplined Mind, Synthesizing Mind, the Creating Mind, and the Respectful Mind raises certain foundation since childhood, the abstract thinking ability level grows up naturally, the kids and young people becomes the good citizen in the 21st century era. It must be presented during the university life or entering the work place obviously.
