Prehospital care providers' decision to transport the patient with a suicide attempt refusing care in the Cape Town Metropole, Western Cape: A survey based on the Mental Healthcare Act of 2002Evans, Katya January 2015 (has links)
Includes bibliographical references / Anecdotally incidents of inappropriate refusal of treatment or transportation by patients referred to hospital under the Mental Healthcare Act of 2002 have been noted. There is little documented about the knowledge and understanding of prehospital providers of the mental healthcare act, their responsibilities and the issues around patient competence and refusal of care. The transportation of patients presenting with a suicide attempt who have not yet been formally assessed for involuntary admission poses a particular problem. Aim: To determine the knowledge of prehospital providers with respect to the transport of patients presenting with suicide attempts and the mental health act and to describe their management of cases where these patients may refuse treatment. Methods: A cross-sectional survey and including open ended questions of 100 prehospital providers in the Western Cape both public and private. The questionnaire will include knowledge testing, vignettes describing patient management and open-ended questions regarding their opinions on suicidal patients. Simple descriptive statistics will be used for the knowledge test. Qualitative data will be coded using a grounded theory approach. Discussion: The findings of the study will be used to determine provider knowledge and attitudes regarding the prehospital management of patients presenting with suicide attempts. Recommendations will be made for provincial EMS guidelines and the results will be disseminated in an article for publication.

Riglyne vir die ontwikkeling en implementering van 'n bestuursinligtingstelsel vir die Suid-Afrikaanse VervoerdienstePetkoon, Leopold John 04 February 2014 (has links)
M.Comm. / The South African Transport Services is one of the largest undertakings in the Republic of South Africa. It is a multi-modal undertaking employing approximately 212 000 people and has a turnover in excess of R8 000 million per annum. During a strategic planning excercise the top management of the South African Transport Services identified an effective management information system as a critical success factor to the well being of the undertaking on the premise that information forms the basis for sound management decision-making. The need for relevant information for decision-making has never been more real than at present. The South African Transport Services is facing a market situation of ever-increasing competition. As the move towards deregulation in the RSA gathers momentum, the competition will become even greater. The information resource will have to respond to the challenge and provide management with timely, relevant information to make sound decisions. This study has as its goal the setting of a number of guidelines which will enable the management of the South African Transport Services to prepare a strategic information plan for the undertaking. As a result of the conclusions drawn from the literature study an investigation was conducted into the characteristics of the South African Transport Services with the accent on the present availability, distribution and use of information. This study was undertaken at three levels. At the first level stock was taken of the formal information which is at present supplied to top management. A number of conclusions were drawn as to the application, volume, relevance, accuracy and timeliness of the information. At the same time the views of top management were obtained on their perception of the most important information problems in the South African Transport Services.

Banning the Bahn: transport infrastructure effects on Austrian cluster firmsBergman, Edward M., Maier, Gunther, Lehner, Patrick January 2007 (has links) (PDF)
The adequacy of existing transport infrastructure to four distinct clusters in Austria's key regions is tested by examining the willingness of logistics managers to pay for additional service improvements. Findings show an overall willingness to pay for multiple service improvements; this reveals a general dissatisfaction with current shipping options, regardless of transport mode, where rail mode services ("Bahn") provoke the greatest dissatisfaction. Willingness to pay for improvements generally increases by degrees of regional EU remoteness and relative youth of cluster industries, as hypothesized from Schumpterian assumptions concerning infrastructure innovation. / Series: SRE - Discussion Papers

The second part of the research assesses the socio-psychological aspects of the choice of means of transport using controlled interview. Both surveys were conducted on the four main directions of commuting from Zruč nad Sázavou. Due to the peripheral location of the town and the lower extent of public transport car traffic in the form of individual trips or carpooling is more preferred for regular commuting For certain groups of people public transport still fulfills its function in providing transport services.
