The efficiency enhanced after laboratory automation implementationLin, Hui-chuan 26 June 2012 (has links)
A Laboratory Automation System (LAS) was implemented in E-Da hospital since 29 March 2011. We chose every result-reported data of all determination items instead of single item. We collected 1,826,444 reported data on laboratory turnaround time (TAT) from E-Da hospital during both pre- (July 2010 to March 2011) and post-LAS (April to December 2011). All data were classed with months and 18 TAT means were calculated. A Two-Factor analysis of variance was applied to the means and we found a significant difference, from 88.8 min. to 74.4 min., between pre- and post-LAS under a 95% confidence level. This showed a result of TAT improvement of 14.4 min. (16.2%) after LAS implemented. The data were seperated into Stat or Routine sets after classed with months, and means of each set of data were calculated. The result of Two-Factor analyses of variance on the separated Stat or Routine sets revealed that the Stat TAT did not change significantly (P=.05) and the Routine TAT, as a result of improvement of 29.0 min. (21.3%), did. This showed an improvement of Routine TAT contributes to the improvement of TAT. The former conclusion could be demostrated that Routine TAT correlated best with the TAT (r2=0.99, P=.05) and Stat TAT correlated poor with the TAT (r2=0.36, P=.05). As to 90% TAT analysis, it seemes that an improvement from 14.4 min. to 10.8 min. (16.2% to 15.3%) will be underestimated if 90% TAT was sifted from original TAT and analyzed. And a TAT Outlier analysis, tail size, seems to improve better, reduced 47 min. (18.5%), than 90% TAT analysis. We suggest a total TAT analysis instead of 90% TAT or Outlier ones. Both Clinical Chemistry (CC) and Immune Assay (IA) TAT did change significantly (P=.05), as a result of improvement of 13.7 min. (16.1%) and 18.2 min. (14.7%) each other, when the data were seperated into CC or IA sets. This showed an improvement of TAT after automation was contributed by both the improvement of CC and IA TAT. It could be also demostrated by the best correlation relationship of CC and IA TAT with the TAT (r2=1.00 and 0.96, P=.05). We also found fewer laboratory errors after automation and this result consisted with staff satisfacation. In other words, the staff of the hospital were much satisfied with LAS when a fewer laboratory errors was found from the reports.

Polarization switching during the turn-on of a VCSELChang, Wei 22 June 2007 (has links)
This research studied the polarization switching during theturned on of a VCSEL. The switching periods and beam profilewere investigated by the variation of the driving current and heat sink temperature of the laser. The laser would present a series of polarization switching before it achieved the stable state. At a laser¡¦s current of 5.5 mA, the laser first output in Y-polarization for a period of T1 after the laser was turned on. Then the laser switched to X-polarization and maintained for a period of T2. In the third period of T3, the laser switched to Y-polarization and followed by a final switch to X-polarization. We found that the switching periods would decrease under higher temperature and larger driving current, while the ratio of T2 /T1 and T3/T2 did not change, approximating to a constant of e2.We also found that the beam profile of X-polarization would change periodically with a period of 0.32 mA in the region of 3.5 to 6.0 mA. These results will help to understand the mechanism of the polarization switching when the
laser is turned on.

The use of ground equipment at airports / Användning av markutrustning på flygplatserAldén, Anna, Odebo, Stina January 2015 (has links)

Levinas, Messianism and parodyHolden, Terence Joseph January 2010 (has links)
Levinas has come to be seen as one of the principle representatives in contemporary thought of a certain philosophically articulated concept of 'messianism'. On the one hand, the appeal by philosophy to messianism is conceived by many as a 'turn' within postmodern thought broadly conceived towards a theology and ethics. On the other hand, there is the closely related consensus that Levinas‘ messianism is an expression of a certain 'correlation' between 'philosophy' and 'Judaism', a correlation in which Judaism becomes the suppressed voice of conscience of the latter. We revisit some of the consensuses upon which these related understandings are based. Firstly, we consider whether the heterogeneity of Levinas‘ different articulations of the messianic dimension should be emphasized, a heterogeneity which defies simple classification. Secondly, we consider whether Levinas‘ thought can properly be called messianic as such: we emphasize the functional character of messianism in Levinas, and how messianism is structurally re-ordered according to the function it takes on. We explore namely the manner in which messianic discourse in Levinas is implicated in the construction of a certain humanism, and how it is called upon to negotiate the obstacles which such a construction faces. Re-ordered according to this regime, we consider whether what unites the various expressions of messianism in Levinas is not the articulation of a discourse which progressively realizes its non-eschatological status. We frame this thesis in terms of what we call the 'parody' of messianism, a notion we derive from Nietzsche. This complicates any notion of a 'turn' within postmodernism; and yet it can be shown to be an intensification of a certain tendency at work already within normative Judaism.

Addressing GaN Converter Challenges: False Turn-On Issues & Switching Loss Modelling / Addressing GaN Converter Challenges: False Turn-On Issues & Switching Loss ModellingKASHYAP, NISHANT January 2022 (has links)
Wide bandgap devices are the future of this dynamically changing technological world. Considering Gallium Nitride (GaN) and Silicon Carbide (SiC), GaN has exceptional characteristics that will likely allow it to proliferate greatly in the area of low-and-mid-power power electronic converters. One of the current challenges in this context to completely utilize GaN are the reliability issues, especially false turn-on events, which is a main focus of this thesis. False turn-on due to its momentary short circuit capability deteriorates the converter performance. Furthermore, simple and accurate modeling of GaN device losses is critical to help electronic designers optimize converter designs.
This thesis focuses on three contributions to help reduce false turn-on events and improve GaN modeling efforts. First, this work uniquely investigates the optimal pulse-width-modulation (PWM) scheme to balance efficiency and false turn-on. The experimental results lead to a recommendation to use a larger negative bias than is currently recommended by device manufacturers. Secondly, the work proposes a new simplified switching loss model with high accuracy that can be used with different gate drive circuits (including negative gate bias voltages) to make it more useful for power electronics design engineers as a tool. And thirdly, since the main contributor to false turn-on events are the parasitic inductances in the switch and on the PCB, this work proposes a new parasitic inductance measurement methodology which can be implemented using only simple laboratory instruments. / Thesis / Doctor of Engineering (DEng) / Wide bandgap devices are the future of this dynamically changing technological world.
