Marqueurs et polyphonie en anglais contemporain : étude de cas / Markers and polyphony in contemporary English : a case study

Levillain, Pauline 18 November 2013 (has links)
This research examines English linguistic markers using the concept of ‘polyphony’, i.e. intersubjectivity, a concept that is key to many studies in French linguistics. More precisely, we examine how negative interrogative constructions in English work, while also exploring the possibility that they may shed light on how the English linguistic system functions as a whole. To do so, we begin by reviewing the theoretical work that inspired our study. This earlier work is then applied to our corpus of negative interrogatives, which were sourced from a collection of short stories by Raymond Carver. Our analysis begins by looking at negative interrogatives that do not contain interrogative pronouns – more precisely, those introduced by isn’t, don’t and didn’t. Then, we focus our attention on wh-questions introduced by the interrogative pronoun why. Finally, we look at tag questions: this allows us to anchor our work in a place that accords primary importance to the interlocutor in the construction of linguistic messages. As far as this is concerned, we redefine the interlocutor’s role in this process by considering them a co-constructor of the linguistic message

Identification et caractérisation d'une lipase exprimée pendant l'hydrolyse des réserves chez Arabidopsis thaliana / Identification and characterization of a lipase expressed during Arabidopsis thaliana reserves hydrolysis

Zallot, Rémi 10 November 2011 (has links)
In germinating seedlings of Arabidopsis thaliana, fat storage breakdown is initiated by lipases. A protein capable to bind to a lipase inhibitor was identified from an extract of rape seedlings and its amino acid sequence found to resemble that of known lipases. Transient expression of the Arabidopsis orthologous gene led to a 100-fold increase in lipase activity in Nicotiana bethamiana leaves. Taken together, these data strongly suggest that this protein is indeed a lipase. In vivo localization studies using a GFP fusion protein in Nicotiana benthamiana as a transcient expression host showed a peroxisomal localization. In Arabidopsis, the gene coding for this lipase was found to be mainly expressed in seedlings during fat storage breakdown. Most lipase activity was abolished in germinating seedlings of an Arabidopsis mutant for this gene. These data suggest that this lipase is likely involved in the breakdown of fat storage in germinating seedlings of Arabidopsis. However, oil mobilization was not affected in Arabidopsis mutant plants. This might suggest that the effect of the mutation could be compensated for by other lipases.

RFID Tag Design and Range Improvement

Chirammal Ramakrishnan, Rijwal 27 June 2012 (has links)
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a short range radio technology for communication between two objects namely, a reader and a tag. Design of an RFID tag with the best range is always the motive of an RFID designer. In this thesis two RFID tags were simulated, designed and manufactured. The first one is a semi-passive RFID tag, which also serves as a discrete prototype tag for the research group to master RFID tag designs. The user can program and further extend the use of this tag according to the requirements. This RFID tag is provided with JTAG interface to program and debug. The read range of this prototype tag is found to be 1m with reader EIRP of 30dBm. The second design is a passive tag which can be commercialized. It achieves a competitive read range of 2.9m for reader EIRP of 21dBm. The read range when measured in a practical implementation inside a building corridor was 15m.
