The Increase in Rates, Amounts, and Complexity of the Federal Income Tax and the Importance of AccountingDemmerly, Frank R. 01 January 1941 (has links)
The author felt that a short history of world income taxes including the earlier American eras would provide a strong foundation on which to build the development of the present Federal income tax structure. With this end in view, chapter one is devoted to this background. The rates of taxation and the amounts of income on which these rates are effective have, of course, varied from year to year. The problems arising in connection with these categories are discussed in the second chapter from the standpoint of the different returns filed. The third chapter presents the varied complex problems that arise in the completion of income tax returns. There are many in this connection but the author has attempted to show only the more important. The accountant has been, naturally, a very influential factor in the development of income taxes, especially in connection with their relation to business. This has been shown in chapter four. The final chapter brings out the conclusions drawn from this study along with some brief summary statements.

Identification and evaluation of the managerial benefits derived by small businesses as a result of complying with the Australian tax systemLignier, Philip Andre, Cyberspace Law & Policy Centre, Faculty of Law, UNSW January 2008 (has links)
This thesis explores the managerial benefits derived by small business entities as a result of complying with their tax obligations. This is the first study on managerial benefits that considers all federal taxes in the Australian context. While the managerial benefits of tax compliance were first identified by Sandford in the 1980s, there is only limited evidence to date about their perception by business taxpayers and no evidence at all about their actual occurrence. The work undertaken by Sandford together with the findings of empirical research on accounting in small businesses, provide the framework for the development of research hypotheses. With the purpose of testing these hypotheses, the research examines concurrently a sample of small businesses located in a regional area of Australia, and a sample of similar entities located in an external territory of Australia exempt from federal taxes and with minimal tax compliance obligations. The thesis adopts a mixed research method which combines a survey and a case study component from which a number of convergent results emerge. Results show that bookkeeping requirements imposed by tax compliance compel small businesses to upgrade their accounting systems, typically in the form of computerisation. The increased sophistication of the accounting system following this upgrade allows small businesses to derive managerial benefits in the form of a better knowledge of their financial affairs. The study also demonstrates that when small businesses seek the assistance of an accountant to comply with their tax compliance obligations, managerial benefits may be derived in the form of informal business advice and other services that come as a spin-off from tax compliance work. The findings of the research also indicate that a majority of small businesses value positively the accounting information generated as a result of tax imposed record keeping requirements, however further studies are required to establish the extent to which the additional information has a positive effect on decision making. Finally, the study identifies various possible approaches to quantify managerial benefits including a method based on the costs of alternative resources, and a valuation based on what owner-managers would be prepared to pay for the information.

Gestão tributária e competitividade na cadeia produtiva de ração para cães e gatos no estado de São Paulo / Tax management and competitiveness in the productive chain of pet foodPilla, Marcelo Eduardo Zanelato de 28 June 2019 (has links)
The pet market has been growing continuously, being considered a branch of activity in tune with modern life. There are several social and behavioral changes of the tutors of these pets. The increased affectivity of this relationship brings several benefits mutually. Pets play a distinct role and this is reflected in consumption and especially in the purchase of food. Therefore, the increase in competitiveness generated by the attractiveness and globalization of this market is evident, and it is necessary to implement modern management practices and define strategic planning. This work aimed to analyze and understand the taxation of ration for dogs and cats and calculate the tax burden on the final consumer. Tax management strategies are relevant and influence business competitiveness. The STN has a higher concentration in the taxation of the bases of goods and services when compared to the average of the OECD countries. The government seeks to maintain its revenue through fiscal policy. This research was developed based on a bibliographical and documentary survey, being a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory approach. A simulation of the tax burden along the pet food production chain was made based on the pertinent legislation, obtaining a percentage of tax burden in the industry of 52.63%, on the distributor of 6.61% and on the pet shop of 7.30%. In 2016 the national average tax burden was 32.38% of GDP, while in the elaborated simulation it was obtained that the consumer paid by buying the pet ration, 41.86% of taxes, accumulated along the productive chain. It was noted that the taxation of pet food is 9.48 pp higher than the national average for that year. The taxation of the ration has been constantly pointed out by businessmen and entities of the sector as excessive and one of the main obstacles of development. Also, it is noticed that the government still does not recognize the benefits brought by these pets to society, given the constant increases in the tax burden of these products.

Transfer pricing e income shifting: evidências de empresas abertas brasileiras / Transfer pricing e income shifting: evidences from Brazilian listed companiesRathke, Alex Augusto Timm 17 December 2014 (has links)
This study investigated evidences of income shifting practice via transfer prices manipulation by Brazilian listed companies, before and after the new fiscal rules promoted by Law nº 12.715/12 and Normative Instruction RFB nº 1.312/12. The economic theory infers that multinational firms have incentives to manipulate prices on intra-group transactions, in order to transfer profits to low-tax locations, aiming to reduce the global tax burden. Based on panel data analysis of 52 Brazilian listed companies with international transactions with related parties in the period from 2010 to 2013, the results reveal that companies whose controlling company has higher volume of transactions with related parties have lower global income tax burden in the consolidated group, and that companies with greater income shifting incentives have greater signs of profit transfers between the controlling company and the consolidated group. Results indicate that there were no changes in these relations in the period when the new tax rules became valid in Brazil. The outcomes represent robust evidences that Brazilian companies make use of transfer prices with aims to achieve income shifting, and the tax rules modifications were not capable to restrain this practice in the first valid year. The results represent a relevant contribution to the current literature, because they bear original and unknown evidences obtained by the exam of firms subjected to domestic tax rules not empirically studied up to now.

The tax incentives influence on the capital structure and the profitability of the Brazilian non-financial public companiesFormigoni, Henrique 26 November 2008 (has links)
The main goal of this research is to evaluate the effects of the tax incentives on the capital structure and the profitability of the Brazilian non-financial public companies. Under the methodological aspect, this study can be classified as a quantitative method, in the longitudinal-descriptive and transversal type. The target population of the study is the Brazilian non-financial public companies, which the sampling is composed by those that have stock negotiated in the Bovespa (the Brazilian trading market in São Paulo), totalizing 590 companies, amounting to a potential number of 7,760 registers during the period of 1995- 2007, which data were obtained in the data bank of Economática. In the transversal analyses the tax incentive indicators, were reduced to their average values. The comparison of the above-mentioned indicators in the groups with and without incentive was done by the test U of Mann-Whitney for the independent sampling, by the usage of the Homogeneity Analysis (HOMALS) in the construction of the perception maps and the accomplishment of the GLM Univariate Test procedure to evaluate the effect of obtaining the fiscal incentives under these indicators. In the longitudinal analyses was considered the procedure GLM Multivariate Test in the evaluation of the effect of obtaining the tax incentives and of the year that the accounting operation was done under the referred indicators. The results of the study suggest that there are no meaningful statistical correlation between the tax incentive and the capital structure indicators. On the other hand it was found a meaningful statistical correlation between the tax incentive and the profitability of the companies.
