The Telecommunications (ICT) Investment and Economic growth(GDP) : A causality analysis-case study of Sweden

Masood, Saqib January 2012 (has links)
This research paper investigates the causality issue between economic growth rate (GDP) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) investment in Sweden by applying modern time series techniques. It mainly covers time series analyses of 30 years of Sweden data (1980-2009). During that period, development in Information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure of Sweden was an evolutionary process based on innovation and technological knowledge. Telecommunication revolution which occurred and developed on the basic idea that economic change can be explained as co-evolution of technologies, institutions and development blocks (such as investment). The other way of describing it as an analysis of a long wave based on telecommunication technological revolution and key factor involved the share of investment in it. Standard tests of Unit roots, Cointegration and Granger Causality tests are presented. The main reason of such study is the assessment of ICT investment influence directly on economic growth. The results provide an interesting aspect that ICT investment share can possibly be a contributing factor to telecommunications infrastructure development but it cannot be as a whole sufficient enough for stimulating economic growth (GDP).It is found that one way causality running from ICT investment to economic growth (GDP) but only at one year lagged values not at other higher lagged values. The lack of long run relationship may be due to the inadequacy in reflecting the full effect of ICT investment in other complementary segments. The other complementary factors of ICT 's infrastructure are quite essential as well in describing economic growth and development level.

A estrutura e a dinâmica da indústria automobilística no Brasil

Frainer, Daniel Massen January 2010 (has links)
This thesis is an analysis of the structure and dynamics of change in the Brazilian automotive industry since 1990. The hypothesis is that changes in the structure and dynamics of change is the product of the context in which the industry is inserted, and the uninterrupted process of introducing innovations. We first examined the context in which the industry has emerged in the world and its subsequent development in the Brazilian economy. The periods of formation and consolidation of the auto industry would be related to the technology revolution. Secondarily, we analyzed the approaches of industrial organization that will support the analysis of the automotive industry starting from the mainstream, through the neo-institutionalist approach and schumepeteriana. The combination of these approaches overcome the limitations of the mainstream approach to examine the broader institutionalist approach was used to analyze the process and the introduction of innovations we used the neo-Schumpeterian approach. The results from the application of structure-conduct-performance (mainstream), analyzing data from the automobile industry since 1990. Results showed a reduction in the concentration of industry, without this translate into a drop in profitability in the industry. As for the pipes, there is a tendency for greater diversification and product differentiation, especially after 1999, partly due to the entry of new manufacturers in the market. Regarding the introduction of innovations, the major manufacturers had established strategies for better leveraging of expenses on R & D in relation to net sales and reduced time to market for new cars. Production processes and organizational structures have become leaner and innovations by embedding microelectronics, allowing a faster adjustment of production and incorporation of new car models. It is concluded that there was a complete restructuring of the industry following a trajectory. Again, it was not possible to say that there is convergence to a single model of production or even a single path adopted by automakers such industry in Brazil.

Exploring Regulatory Framework Guiding Bank Employees' Career Advancement in Nigeria

Adegbite, Adenrele Jonathan 01 January 2019 (has links)
The current global labor market tends to be knowledge based and workers are consistently required to develop new competencies and adapt to changing environments. Bank employees in Nigeria do not have training that sustains future employment in other sectors, largely as a result of regulatory requirements that impede the development of soft skills and life-long learning opportunities. Little attention has been given to the lived experiences of these bank employees who are currently faced with the challenges posed by globalization and technology adoption. Guided by institutional analysis and development theory (IAD), this exploratory study examined the regulatory framework guiding bank employee career advancement in Nigeria. Qualitative data were collected from a total of 57 participants using semi-structured interviews administered on the three population samples drawn from the regulatory institutions, a pool of ex and current bank staff with a minimum of 8 years in the banking sector. Transcribed data were open coded, and then subjected to a thematic analysis procedure. The results offered a correlative effect and social cost of poor employee training to national development. The results indicated that competitive edge of Nigerian bank workers can be enhanced through acquisition of skills and training that will boost post-banking career transition opportunities. The positive social change implications of this study include recommendations to the three critical demographic blocks; the regulators, the banks and the bank employees. Recommendations of this study can improve the lives of many bank employees including those in other sectors, the economy, and the lives of those in the community.

At first glance, the contact of the actors with the NTICs in this process often reveals itself without the existence of an inclusive methodology because the action of these technologies by higher education institutions seems to result only on attempts to adapt to social demands and marketing in new contexts produced by the digital revolution, making this very misshapen inclusive process, and in turn, limiting the positive effect on the results. This paper discusses the process of incorporating technologies in higher education, seeking to evaluate the reconciliation of traditional methodologies and aspects of their current transformations, hoping to offer subsidies for understanding which are currently the challenges experienced in higher education and how the IES have sought to address them, outlining roughly the current profiles of its actors. To develop this work we chose to use the theories and methodologies of researches carried out by Manuel Castells (2013), Pierre Levy (2010), John B. Thompson (2014). These were accompanied by researches in the areas of philosophy education, especially Edgar Morin (2013) and Maurice Tardif (2011), supplemented by extensive bibliography with ancillary issues. The extensive bibliography that we used helped us to develop a critical reflection on the challenges that are present in high education, particularly in Brazil, and from that reflection, brought up proposals formulated by authors who are researching on the same line of this work, proposals which are healthy and able to respond to the main current challenges. The research's results before of the higher education challenges has been identified that the crisis experienced by the institutions have as factors: the transition between institutional and emerging models. Furthermore, technological training or specialization of education professionals have been occurring through fragmented and diffuse modules, which makes the application of computer-mediated communication decontextualized with learning object. Finally, it presents as a diagnostic to overcome these challenges, the need to define the teach model, based on education reforms that combine linear thought with complex thought, making possible the identification of the new profiles that the institution and teacher may to have in the society / Esta pesquisa trata da proposta da incorporação das novas tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação NTICs no ensino superior, tem por base a melhoria da qualidade pedagógica ao simplificar tarefas complexas, reduzir a distância e consequentemente o tempo, melhorando assim a eficiência do trabalho.

Filosofická reflexe pedagogického vlivu digitálních a informačních technologií se zvláštním zřetelem na fenomén tzv. digitální demence / The Philosophical Reflection of the ICT Influence in the Pedagogical Field with Special Focus on the Digital Dementia Phenomenon

STANĚK, Miroslav January 2016 (has links)
This thesis deals with philosophical questions, related to modern-day technologies and their impact on the future generations education. It specifically focuses on the paradigmatic transformation of everyday empirical experience (of the world) among people who were born into the digital age. They are called "digital natives", and they feel comfortable in the cyberspace´s infosphere. In terms of the philosophy of education, the "digital dementia" is understood as a principal inability and unwillingness to get out of personalised "bubble universe". The goal of education is (in this thesis) understood as a skill how to perform a personal turn-around and how to actively participate their own "philosophy of life", that means to seek for the meaning of the life and live autonomous and authentic lives.

Tištěná kniha versus elektronické čtečky knih. Budoucnost knižní kultury v 21. století / Printed Book Versus E-book Readers. The Future of Literary Culture in the 21st Century

Šulcová, Lucie January 2015 (has links)
This master thesis is dedicated to comparison of classical book and electronic book reader and it examines the advantages and disadvantages of both formats for recipients. In this work the importance of the printing press for society will be described and also the reactions which were induced by its invention. Following chapters will be dedicated to the book itself. Most importatntly what "makes the book being the book" and what are its strength and weeknesses and why it is still popular. As a contrast to this phenomenon the massive increase in popularity of electronic book - especially e-readers in pocket readers, on the internet and in the smartphones which become potential competition for books. The goal of this work is to compare the printed version which is represented by paper book and electronic version which is represented by e- books. Comparison will be based on the description of the specifics of both information tools from technological aspect as well as from the different text perception and the enjoyment from the reading itself. At the end there is an attempt to predicate the possible development in the future - is book culture facing a crisis or will it hold its position in following years?

"Zdomácnění" vědecko-technické revoluce v Československu: inovace v české kuchyni a výživě 50. a 60. let 20. století / "Domesticating" the Scientific-Technological Revolution in Czechoslovakia: Inovation in the Czech Kitchen and Alimentation in the 1950s and 1960s

Tomsová, Julie January 2014 (has links)
The aim of the thesis is the analysis of "domestication" of the scientific-technical revolution and the most important alimentary behavior of Czech society in the 1950' and 1960' of the 20th century. In the thesis is this process interpreted in the context of the change of the regime and of the ideological patterns in the mid- 1950', which should help to overcome the difficulties of the Stalinist utopianism - increased emphasis on quality of lifestyle, housing development, architecture and design, modernization of kitchen equipment and the transformation of ideas about desirable social standards and their importance to legitimize post-Stalinist organization. More specifically, in the context of "domestication" of the scientific-technical revolution, I deal with topics such as the rationalization and mechanization of houseworks, emphasis on hygiene and nutrition, quality of food storage and preparation, the transformation of food composition, the "discovery" of vitamins and enzymes, minerals and etc., haunches on consumerism, developing doctrines of household management, image of woman and her place in the household and other topics. The present work examines not only the structural changes that have occurred, but their ideological aspects - especially the place where the promise of a better life...
