Produkční ideologie televizního seriálu Proč bychom se netopili / Production Ideology of the television serial Proč bychom se netopili

Štechová, Markéta January 2009 (has links)
The diploma thesis "Production Ideology of the television serial Proč bychom se netopili" deals with the production process in the making of a television serial. The initial focus was on the formation of one of the main characters, Keny, and on his position in the production as a whole. The thesis builds upon the ideas developed by cultural studies. These combine the structuralist approach inspired by the linguistics of Ferdinand de Saussure with the ideological approach based mainly on the thought of Louis Althusser. The production process is enquired into by Elena Levine who distinguishes five key categories of production. The research section which represents the core of the present diploma thesis is methodologically formed by grounded theory. It is based on qualitative interviews with those in key positions with respect to the production process. In the analytical section, the thesis operates with Roland Barthes's concept of mythologies. In the interviews, the informants make reference to the category of production routine, of the myth concerning the ideal "waterman" (the main character Keny being a symbol of this myth), of the production conditions in Czech Television and of the viewer who appears to be the ultimate instance. These categories constitute the mythology of the exceptional which...

This subject of study is placed in the Interdisciplinary Program in Contemporary Culture and Arts, for it employs knowledge of diverse areas, such as written language and audiovisual media, and evaluates the transposition of erudite culture (the book) into mass culture (the television). This study evaluated the first ten years of TV Globo s broadcasting of mini-series (1982-1991), establishing the themes of the TV shows regarding the current Brazilian cultural problems and the reasons behind the choice of a given theme for production. The historical issues presented by the TV show and the adapted book were studied, and the different issues involved in their fruition were observed, such as the amount of time spent by viewers, the place and time, the prior formation (study level, and the preference for passively watching the TV show or actively reading the book). The mini-series chosen was the first big production made by TV Globo in order to celebrate its 20th anniversary: entitled O Tempo e o Vento , this adaptation, homonymous to the trilogy written by Verissimo, depicts the first volume of the trilogy, called O Continente launched in 1949 by Globo Publishing House. One chapter of the book Ana Terra was selected, which is about the story of Pedro Missioneiro and Ana Terra. Using tenets of content analysis developed by Laurence Bardin, two ambivalent nuclei were chosen (life and death), from which 85 passages of the written text containing behaviors and feelings corresponding to the nuclei were selected. Based on these data, the inclusions and exclusions, artistic creation and differences between the original and the adapted work were analyzed. It was seen that the items that presented more occurrences were fear (18), which belongs to the death nucleon, with 36 inclusions in the mini-series, as opposed to life, which had only 26 inclusions, happiness being the item with more occurrences (only 6). Therefore, the adaptation maintained the climate of tension similar to the book, and a harmonious and edifying climate was not found.

Porträtt av personer med funktionsnedsättningar : - En kvantitativ och kvalitativ undersökning om den bild SVT:s respektive TV4:s nyhetsinslag skapar av personer med funktionsnedsättningar / The portrait of people with disabilities : - A quantitative and qualitative study on what image SVT- and TV4- news creates of people with disabilities

Nikolina, Bojanic January 2014 (has links)
The study has answered the questions to what extent people with disabilities are involved in SVT- and TV4- news reports and how people with disabilities are represented in news reports. The material is based on 140 news items. The study has demonstrated that news reports SVT and TV4 have different grades of misconceptions about disabled people. Disabled people are constantly being reinforced by negative disabling terms, the disability being of central importance for the news broadcast and they still occur in stereotypical depictions. Through the image of disabled people forms the bed-rock on which the attitudes towards, assumptions and expectations of disabled people are based on. They are fundamental to discrimination and exploitation that people with disabilities face on a daily basis, and contributes significantly to their systematic exclusion from mainstream society. Their continued use could contribute to the negative self-image of disabled people and, at the same time, perpetuates discriminatory attitudes and practices among the general public.

Por fim, tendo como sustentação os pressupostos teóricos e as análises que foram construídas, foi possível dialogar com trabalhos que tematizam a televisão, suas produções e/ou as relações das crianças com estes termos e os (des)compromissos das instituições educacionais e escolares em relação a estes temas / Abstract: The present thesis aims at.understanding the relationships among ehildren, television, and two animes (pokémon and Dragonball Z) in their intertextuality, based on the theoretical grounds of L.S, Vygotsky, M, Bakhtin and the contributions of D. Maingueneau, E. Orlandi and Fiske. Eight boys (at ages between 11 and 12 years old), who have been living under distinetively different material eonditions in their daiJy life (ineluding their "television experience"), participated in this study. The empirie material was composedof:the analyses of the children's enunciations, produced as they watched and commented on two episodes, the animes - as diseourse geme - and television. The analyses show that intertextual relationships are eonstituted by complex and uninterrupted tensions. lt may be stressed, among several others, the existing tension between the tendeney towards the monophonization of the texts of the animes in relation to its main motif -the fights - and the joining and resistanee movements of the boys (considering the production of paraphrases, of other meanings - based on the polysemy of wordslimages -, polyphonie enunciations and displacement ofthe centrality ofthis motif). Once similarities and differences were found in their intertextual relationships (those being characterized as social, cultural and historica1 processes), questions related to their life conditions were raised. At last, by supporting on the theoretieal presuppositions and on the analyses that were constructed, it was possible to dialogue with works that deal with television, their productions and/or ehildren's relationships with these terms and the (non)commitment on the part of schools and educational institutions regarding these themes / Doutorado / Educação, Conhecimento, Linguagem e Arte / Doutor em Educação

Myšlení o médiích v 70. a 80. letech 20. století na příkladu interních periodik Československé televize a Československého rozhlasu / Reflecting the media of the 1970s and the 1980s - in-house periodicals published by Czechoslovak television and Czechoslovak radio

Aust, Ondřej January 2009 (has links)
The thesis "Reflecting the media of the 1970s and the 1980s - in-house periodicals published by Czechoslovak television and Czechoslovak radio" disserts on the content of the quarterlies Televizní tvorba (Television production) and Rozhlasová práce (Radio production). The magazines which were published within two main - in that time already institutionalized - mass media were major tools serving to the KSČ, the communist party in former Czechoslovakia. Through them it was accomplishing its ideological, or more precisely propagandistic performance targeted to both, the citizens of the socialist state and abroad. Within this platform the thesis inspects the topics handled by then TV and radio employees, the following output of the discussions and their conclusions. The qualitative analysis of the two periodicals includes an introduction summarizing the historical facts that illustrate the situation of the end of the 1960's and the beginning of the 1970's. In addition, a list of periodicals published by Czechoslovak television and Czechoslovak radio for its internal use has been attached.

Adapting Snow White : tracing female maturation and ageing across film, television and the comic book

Whitehurst, Katherine F. January 2016 (has links)
This thesis analyses 21st century filmic, televisual and comic “Snow White” adaptations. The research is interdisciplinary, bringing together scholarship on gender, childhood, ageing, adaptation, media and fairy tales. The first half of the thesis contextualises the broader historical and sociocultural conversation “Snow White” tellings are immersed in by nature of their shared culture and history. It also identifies the tale’s core and traces the tale’s formation as a tale type from the seventeenth to the twenty–first century. The second half of this thesis moves to an analysis of two films (Mirror Mirror, 2012; Snow White and the Huntsman, 2012), a television series (Once Upon a Time, 2011–present) and a comic book series (Fables, 2002–2015). It considers the kinds of stories about female growth and ageing different media adaptations of “Snow White” enable, and contemplates how issues of time and temporality and growth and ageing play out in these four versions. In analysing the relationship between form and content, this thesis illustrates how a study of different media adaptations of “Snow White” can enrich fairy–tale scholarship and the fairy–tale canon. It also details the imaginative space different media adaptations of “Snow White” provide when engaging with dominant discourses around female growth and ageing in the West. Using “Snow White” as a case study, this thesis centrally facilitates a dialogue between ageing, childhood, fairy–tale and adaptation studies.
