The Family of Interoperable Range System Transceivers (First)

International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 28-31, 1996 / Town and Country Hotel and Convention Center, San Diego, California / The objective of the FIRST project is to define a modern DoD Standard Datalink capability. This defined capability or standard is to provide a solution to wide variety of test and training range digital data radio communications problems with a common set of components, flexible to fit a broad range of applications, yet be affordable in all of them. This capability is to be specially designed to meet the expanding range distances and data transmissions rates needed to test modern weapon systems. Presently, the primary focus of the project is more on software, protocols, design techniques and standards, than on hardware development. Existing capabilities, on going developments and emerging technologies are being investigated and will be utilized as appropriate. Modern processingintensive communications technology can perform many complex range data communications tasks effectively, but a large-scale development effort is usually necessary to exploit it to its full potential. Yet, range communications problems are generally of limited scope, so different from one another that a communication system applicable to all of them is not likely to solve any of them well. FIRST will resolve that dilemma by capitalizing on another feature of modern communications technology: its high degree of programmability. This can enable custom-tailoring of datalink operation to particular applications, just as a PC can be tailored to perform a multitude of diverse tasks, through appropriate selection of software and hardware components.

TENA in a Telemetry Network System

ITC/USA 2008 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Fourth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 27-30, 2008 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / The integrated Network Enhanced Telemetry (iNET) and Test and Training Enabling Architecture (TENA) projects are working to understand how TENA will perform in a Telemetry Network System. This paper discusses a demonstration prototype that is being used to investigate the use of TENA across a constrained test environment simulating iNET capabilities. Some of the key elements being evaluated are throughput, latency, memory utilization, memory footprint, and bandwidth. The results of these evaluations will be presented. Additionally, the paper briefly discusses modeling and metadata requirements for TENA and iNET.

Common Test and Training Range Architecture

International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 30-November 02, 1995 / Riviera Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada / To address the concerns of a declining defense budget, duplicate range capabilities, and applications of new technologies, the Deputy Director, Test Facilities and Resources, Test, Systems Engineering and Evaluation Directorate, Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), initiated the Common Test and Training Range Architecture (CTTRA) Workshop project. The development of a common test and training range architecture requires a series of workshops designed to apply the expertise of the test and training ranges and the installed systems test facilities (ISTF) communities to the challenges of architecture development and interface standardization. A common range architecture with standardized interfaces will facilitate asset sharing between the Services, increase the industry-government dual-use potential of OSD's test and training range facilities, and lower the cost of testing. Further, common range interfaces will allow the efficient integration of new instrumentation and simulations at minimum cost. To support development of the CTTRA, there have been three workshops, each expanding the accomplishments of the previous workshop. The first workshop was conducted 20-22 April 1994. The other workshops were held 12-14 October 1994 and 21-24 February 1995. The goals of the workshop process are to: • Develop a common test and training range architecture that supports the requirements of the test, training, and installed systems test facility communities • Identify areas with the potential to yield near-term interface standardization benefits. • Identify potential OSD Central Test and Evaluation Investment Program (CTEIP) projects. Thus far, the workshops have developed a top level and second level candidate CTTRA, identified areas for interface standardization, and established standing working groups responsible for continuing development of CTTRA and selected areas for interface standardization.

TENA Performance in a Telemetry Network System

Some of the key elements investigated were quality of service measures (throughput, latency, and reliability) in the face of projected characteristics of iNET Data Acquisition Unit (DAU) devices including size, weight, and power (SWAP), and processing capacity such as memory size and processor speed. This paper includes recommendations for both the iNET and TENA projects.

The relationship between behavioural dimensions and individual performance on a learning potential measure in the South African corporate environment

Psychometric testing is becoming more influential in the recruitment and development of individuals within the corporate environment globally, with over 80% of Fortune 500 companies in the USA and over 75% of the Times Top 100 companies in the UK using psychometric testing, the same trend is emerging in South Africa. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible relationship between an individual’s preferred behavioural approach on various behavioural dimensions and the manner in which they complete a psychometric measure, more specifically, a learning potential measure within the corporate environment, as an individual’s preferred behavioural approach may act as a biasing factor with regard to the result that they obtain. A causal research design was utilised and two psychometric measures used to respectively determine an individual’s preferred behavioural style and learning potential. The sample consisted of 398 economically active adult candidates in either a development or recruitment assessment centre. Both the Personal Profile Analysis (PPA) and Test for Selection and Training (TST) were administered on these 398 individuals. Statistical analysis was carried out on the test results with the use of SPSS and Microsoft Excel. The reliability and validity of the measuring instruments was also ascertained and found acceptable. Descriptive statistics, contingency tables, significant differences, t-test statistics and p-values were used to analyse the data. These statistical methods were used to indicate if a relationship exists. The results indicate that various behavioural dimensions, (Dominance, Influence and Steadiness) amongst individuals within the South African Corporate environment do have an impact on how they complete a learning potential measure, when consideration is given to the speed and accuracy with which they complete such a measure.
