This dissertation informs about the life and work cremonese painter, architect and decorator Giulio Campi (c. 1502-1572), who became in 1541 the author of the decorations for the triumphal entry of Emperor Charles V in Cremona. Together with his colleague Camille Boccaccino suggested a number of triumphal arches, whose appearance has been preserved to this day on preparatory drawings. A number of preparatory drawings, which are part of the recently discovered album of the Clara - Aldringen in Teplice, keep the National Gallery in Prague. This thesis concerns the problems of Campi's proposals of the arches - addresses visual effects that might have had an influence on the Campi's drawing expression, features other Campi's surviving drawings from the collection of the European institutions and summarizes a form of the Charles V Trionfo in 1541 and Philip II. Trionfo in 1549 in Cremona.

I have gained control over a whole space through the use of video projections, soundscaping and various other materials including some interactive media, enabling me to give the audience a fuller sensual experience. Multiâ€media has made it possible for artists such as myself to create artworks that require more than a visual conversation with the viewer. The manipulation of memory by time became a physical manifestation in the environments that I create with the use of multiâ€media installations.

Pollinator sharing in mixed species communities is expected to significantly contribute to mating patterns in contemporary populations but may also affect the evolutionary trajectory of traits associated with plant mating. In this thesis, I considered how the spring environment and pollinator sharing may contribute to the widespread convergence in traits among spring flowering species using comparative biology. The proposed correlation between a spring flowering phenology and white or light floral colour, fleshy fruits, woody growth forms and understory occupation is confirmed. In addition, I examined the effects of pollinator responses to community and population traits to determine the relative importance of inter- and intraspecific interactions in pollinator mediated reproductive success of a spring flowering species, Trillium grandiflorum. In this study, the reproductive success of T. grandiflorum was pollen limited. However, the magnitude of pollen limitation was influenced only by intraspecific density and varied independently of community diversity. The results of this thesis contribute significantly to our understanding of pollinator-mediated interactions in spring flowering communities but also highlight future avenues of investigation.

Characterization of Ephemeral Streams Using Electrical Resistance Sensors in a Southern Ontario WatershedPeirce, Sarah 30 May 2012 (has links)
Ephemeral streams are small headwater streams that only experience streamflow in response to a precipitation event. Due to their highly complex and dynamic spatial and temporal nature, ephemeral streams have been difficult to monitor and are in general poorly understood. This research implemented an extensive network of recently developed electrical resistance sensors to monitor ephemeral streamflow in a Southern Ontario watershed, located in Guelph, Ontario. From this data, patterns of stream network expansion and contraction were determined. Further analysis examined a series of spatial and temporal variables that were monitored to explain the occurrence of ephemeral channel activity through binary logistic regression. The results suggest that the most common patterns of network expansion and contraction at the study site are incomplete coalescence and disintegration, respectively. Analysis of the primary controls on ephemeral streamflow showed only weak relationships, suggesting that there are more complex processes at work in these ephemeral streams. This research has implications for improving ephemeral streamflow monitoring in the future, which will be important for developing and implementing meaningful conservation and management strategies.

The use of small ephemeral wetlands and streams by amphibians in the mixedwood forest of boreal AlbertaOkonkwo, Godwin 06 1900 (has links)
Identifying amphibian habitats within a landscape provides a tool for managing their populations. I identified if and how amphibians used small ephemeral wetlands (≤ 0.1ha) and streams within the mixedwood forest area managed by Daishowa Marubeni International Ltd. near Peace River, north-western Alberta. Twenty-seven wetlands and their riparian zones were sampled for all life stages of amphibians in 2008 using timed visual encounter surveys. The riparian zones of 11 small streams were sampled with pitfall traps within 120 m of their beds from 2006 to 2008. Habitat features were also measured. Lithobates sylvaticus, Anaxyrus boreas and Pseudacris maculata used small ephemeral wetlands and the riparian zones of ephemeral, intermittent and permanent streams at different life stages. Water temperature and canopy cover influenced amphibian presence and abundance in wetlands. Coniferous and deciduous tree density were associated with L. sylvaticus abundance at the stream sites. I conclude that small waterbodies are amphibian habitats in the mixedwood forest of boreal Alberta. / Ecology
