O estudo realizado numa indústria transformadora de papéis teve por objetivo contribuir para a evidenciação da importância do monitoramento das variáveis macroeconômicas nos sistemas de informação. Existem ferramentas tecnológicas para processar esse tipo de informação e a literatura oferece suporte para a necessidade desse monitoramento, no entanto, esta prática tem sido objeto de um número limitado de trabalhos empíricos e tem recebido relativamente pouca atenção no ambiente empresarial. Uma possível justificativa, talvez seja a complexidade e o dinamismo dos dados que, além de estarem em constante oscilação per si, interagem entre si e podem ter impactos distintos em cada um dos produtos de uma mesma empresa. A pesquisa que deu origem a esta dissertação, foi realizada como um estudo exploratório descritivo, utilizando-se métodos estatísticos para processar variáveis internas e externas para analisar a importância das variáveis macroeconômicas no gerenciamento de informações de uma empresa selecionada. Escolheu-se uma só empresa com um leque diversificado de produtos e sua relação com seu ambiente externo. Na complexidade interna do negócio foram escolhidos os produtos mais representativos da empresa e cada um deles foram explorados através de duas ferramentas de análise multivariada de dados. Primeiro, fez-se uso da correlação canônica para escolher as variáveis macroeconômicas que possuíam relação mais forte com os produtos selecionados e, em seguida, utilizou-se a regressão linear múltipla para identificar as elasticidades dos produtos em relação a cada uma das variáveis macroeconômicas. Os resultados obtidos, evidentemente, não esgotam o estudo da prática apontada, mas os objetivos propostos e alcançados pela pesquisa, evidenciaram a importância do monitoramento das variáveis macroeconômicas para o caso estudado. / The study formulated in a paper transforming industry intends to contribute in the demonstration of the importance of monitoring macroeconomic variables in Information Systems. There are technological tools to process those data and the literature offers support to this need, nevertheless the subject has receive little attention in the corporate background and was the object of few empiric papers. One reason may be the complexity and the dynamism of the data which besides being in constant oscillation interact among each other and may have distinct impacts in different products of the company. The research performed in this dissertation is categorized as a descriptive exploratory study, using statistical methods to process internal and external variables in order to analyze the importance of the macroeconomic variables in the information management in a firm of choice. It was chosen a single firm with a wide range of products and its relation with the external environment. In the internal complexity of the business it was chosen the most representative products and each one of them were analyzed trough two different multivariate data analysis. First the Canonic Correlation in order to select the macroeconomic variables with the strongest relation to the selected products, subsequently the Multiple Linear Regression with the intention of pinpointing the elasticity of the same products to each variable. The results clearly do not exhaust the subject, however corroborate with the proposed and reached objectives highlighting the importance of monitoring macroeconomic variables for the case studied.

The theoretical part focuses on the description of basic characteristics and concepts which are related to given issue. The analytical part consists of analyses performed in both internal and external environment of the company WoodBag s. r. o. on the assumption of its future expansion to the Swedish market. Results that we achieved are stated in SWOT analysis. The final part is the draft part, in which recommendations and potential suggestions from perspective of marketing mix towards successful expansion of the company to the Swedish market with results from particular analyses and theoretical background are presented.

WorldCom, a telecommunications company, was a victim of these expectations that led to the evolution of a fraud designed to deceive the public until the economic outlook improved. Through understanding what led to the fraud, how the fraud grew, and what its effects were, lessons can be derived to gain a better understanding of the reasons behind a fraud and to prevent future frauds from occurring or growing as big as the WorldCom fraud did.

Big Data: A Toll for all Strategic Decisions : A Study of Three Large Food and Beverage Processing Organizations

I will look at what impact big data have had on the managerial strategic decisions in the food and beverage industry. This in order to understand the complexity and theory of organizational strategic management, an effort to define the contemporary strategic theory into a holistic conceptual model is done through a literature review on organizational strategy. This literature explicitly proposes four distinctly different types of strategies that management need to consider in the organizational context. Namely, long-term strategy, internal business strategy, external corporate strategy, and competitive strategy. The study analyzed the food and beverage industry over a decade (2005-2014), where the three of the largest actors in the industry were selected, Nestlé S.A, PepsiCo Inc, and Unilever. The choice of method was content analysis, where three structured categorization matrixes were developed which each analyzed parts of the annual reports. The study propose the role of big data as a strategic tool for managerial decision from a theoretical standpoint. The content analysis show that hypothesis 1, could be confirmed, big data have an impact on all the proposed four managerial strategic decisions. Second hypothesis could not be confirmed, since decentralization does only occur for one of the organizations, but increased external environment turbulence could be concluded for the industry in general. The third hypothesis could be confirmed, which show that there is an increase in individualization due to increased customer involvement and demand. The analysis discovered three distinct time periods during the last decade, namely pre- economic instability period (2005-2007), economic instability period (2008-2011) and finally the post-paradigm period (2012-2014). Where the year 2011 was the most turbulent in terms of economy and technology for the industry. The study clearly show that customers are now involved in the production process, customers are co-creators of the products. There is now a two-way communication and increased social responsibility awareness. This study shows that the old traditional approach of looking at markets in order to position yourself to stay competitive are obsolete as this study predicted. customers demand to be a part of the organizational culture. This conclude that big data is an important tool for all strategic managerial decisions.

Esta dissertação se propõe a um estudo aplicado às indústrias moveleiras do segmento de fabricação de móveis planejados, associadas à MOVERGS (Associação das Industrias de Móveis do Rio Grande do Sul) e que atuam junto ao mercado consumidor através de rede de lojas exclusivas ou especializadas, no intuito de traçar um diagnóstico, mediante aplicação de pesquisa, sobre como este segmento do ramo moveleiro se encontra com relação aos requisitos organizacionais necessários para monitoramento de seu ambiente pertinente. O universo desta pesquisa foi selecionado em conjunto com a entidade MOVERGS, conforme critério de importância dentro deste segmento, para que as empresas relevantes deste segmento fossem contempladas. Os estudos que serão apresentados a partir da compilação de diferentes correntes de pesquisa e autores sobre a importância da tomada de decisão com base em informações advindas do monitoramento do ambiente, importantes para trabalhar o tema inteligência dentro das empresas. Este trabalho propõe-se realizar um estudo sobre monitoramento de ambiente, com enfoque no quanto as empresas estão preparadas para sistematizar a atividade de inteligência, em especial com foco na percepção, seleção, obtenção, análise e interpretação coletiva das informações do ambiente externo. Esta espiral de captação, análise e utilização fomenta o amadurecimento da organização para níveis de entendimento e aplicação da Inteligência. A motivação para este estudo vem da observação dos movimentos que o setor moveleiro apresenta quanto à fragilidade na atuação com o mercado consumidor, onde nos últimos anos iniciou-se um processo de fechamento de lojas que representam os fabricantes nas ações de comercialização, o que vem expondo as marcas a situações de abalo de imagem, construída com muito esforço ao longo da trajetória de atuação. O estudo permitiu identificar que o setor ainda está pouco maduro em relação à capacidade de sistematizar processos que potencializem a capacidade de antever situações que auxiliem na tomada de decisões relevantes e de impacto para a continuidade dos negócios. Foi possível observar também, como resultado da aplicação da pesquisa, a existência de lacuna, logo, um grande espaço para promover entendimento e sensibilização que pode ser desenvolvido por iniciativas de interesses dentro do segmento. / This paper proposes a study applied to the furniture industry manufacturing segment of customized furniture, associated with MOVERGS (Association of Furniture Industries of Rio Grande do Sul) and working with the consumer market through network exclusive or specialty stores, in order to draw a diagnosis, by applying research on this segment of the furniture industry is in relation to organizational requirements for monitoring its relevant environment. The universe of this research was selected in conjunction with the MOVERGS entity as criterion of importance within this segment, so that the relevant companies in this segment were observed. The studies will be presented from the compilation of different streams of research and authors about the importance of decision making based on information coming from the environmental monitoring, important to work the theme intelligence within companies. This work proposes to carry out a study on environmental monitoring, focusing on how companies are prepared to systematize the intelligence activity, especially focusing on the perception, selection, acquisition, analysis and interpretation of the collective information from the external environment. This spiral of capture, analysis and use fosters the organization's maturing to levels of understanding and application of intelligence. The motivation for this study comes from the observation of the movements that the furniture sector shows the fragility in acting with the consumer market, which in recent years began a store closing process representing manufacturers in selling shares, which comes exposing the brand image of shock situations, constructed with great effort along the path of intense activity. The study identified that the sector is still little mature for the ability to systematize processes that enhance the ability to anticipate situations that help in making relevant decisions and impact to business continuity. It was observed also as a result of application of the research, the existence of gap, so a large space to promote understanding and awareness that can be developed by interests initiatives within the segment.
